Is Babar's knock today the best you have seen today in terms of stroke-play by a Pakistani batsman?

I am lucky to have witnessed such an innings of highest quality.

Some phenomenal drives and cuts across both sides of the field. Fantastic batting by Babar.

I just hope Nicholas hasnt jinxed babar like he did umar ajmal at mcg.. Lovely mix of Sachin and javed :ssmith

Couldn't witness the innings. From commentary, looks to be a top class knock.

But, he has to show this throughout the tour, to be a potential star. But, good to see an upcoming star from Asia.

Best knock I've seen by a Pakistani batsman in a long time.

Yes, we will probably still lose from here and yes, he did not score a 100.

But considering the garbage we've seen from PAK batsmen in the last decade or so, that was an absolutely awesome innings.

Folks, we have officially entered the Age of Babar Azam. He has well and truly arrived.

Umar akmal had talent but no temperament. That was his downfall. Babar actually has temperament and talent both. So things have to go unusually wrong for Babar to fail now.

Credit to Mamoon who once said that Babar will be Pak's best test batsman when all other Pakistanis did not believe in him and wanted him to be dropped.

Babar now has that confidence going and you can see that. He may not be world class (yet) but surely the best in Pakistan.

What a knock. At a loss at how to describe it.

Best innings in SA since Inzy's 92 in Port Elizabeth by a Pakistan batsman.

From the scorecard and commentary, looked like a good innings.

Let's see how he plays the rest of the series.

Yes, the strokeplay, cuts, drives across both sides of the field, absolutely fantastic watching him bat. He completely took apart Steyn like no holds barred.

A treat for Pakistani fans really, just gave me similar goosebumps as Kohli or de Villiers in full-flow give, as pointed by Mark Nicholas.

It will be disaster if Babar doesn't become a Pakistan great if not the best batsmen to have come from the nation.

Beautiful knock, was a class above.

Sadly, got no support beyond Azhar and Hasan.

Best innings I've seen by a Pakistani since Umar Akmal smacking Bond in his den.

Worth the all-nighter 100%.

That was beautiful batting especially the ownage of Steyn the champion.

Shame harris injured. Would have been lovely to see his batting master class here as well. He is equally classy when he gets going.

Because most of them are tailenders. Harris is a must in this middle order.

I agree but let's not kid ourselves that bringing Haris back will solve the batting issues. I bet you if we lose that will be the excuse team mamagement trots out.

There are four passengers in our batting lineup we need to kick out.

He also Babar should be dropped from the test team, after a couple of failures.

Choose a position and stick to it.

Haven't seen such stroke-play from Inzi in a single innings. Watching cricket since 1996.

Come to think of it - Mohammad Yousuf's double hundred at Lord's, 192 at Headingley and hundred at The Oval vs England in 2006 was breathtaking. Babar's backfoot game reminds me a bit of Yousuf.

Anyway I don't like comparing, it was a damn good knock by Babar in its own right.

Whatever happens in this test, psychologically this innings is huge both for Babar and the team. Rest of them won't be (as) afraid of Steyn now. Heck, it might benefit bring Hafeez out of retirement. :P

Yeah that's true but he would have been big improvement on likes of Imam and Shan.

Mark Nikka doesnt follow Pakistan's cricket in the UAE. Babar is this Kohli quite regularly there also

This innings shows why Pakistan need positive cricket and players who can play that kind of cricket instead of slow and sluggish cricket.

This type of innings is what takes you from good to great and from great to legendary . . It was sensational while it lasted . . Such a pity it didn't go on for another 30 runs . . Would have been one of the best 100s ever by a Pakistani! Nevertheless, amazing to watch!

I hope Babar realizes that Jaques Kallis for all his greatness and having a higher average than the 3 best batsman of his era, was never put in the league as Sachin, Lara and Ponting. The only reason was the ability to take the game by the scruff of its neck and make a difference! Instill fear in the opposition . . This is the kind of innings that makes me think that MAYBE . . just MAYBE Babar may well touch highs not touched by any Pakistani batsman . .

Hafeez watching this with tears of joy.

Hmm i watched that series live and Yousuf is one of my fav too. Although those innings were great but dont think those innings were as good as this one.

That 45 minutes of Babar's batting today were pure gold.

Well said.

I have never stated that he should be dropped from the Test team. I have maintained that he needs to be given a long rope in Tests because he cannot hope to find a better batsman than him, and once he finds his feet in Test cricket it will be his most prolific format because scoring consistently is not an issue for him.

However, I do have my doubts over his ability to handle pressure especially in Limited Overs.

Please don’t put words in my mouth.

I accept criticism and I am always prepared to defend myself, but what I do not appreciate is people misquoting/putting words in my mouth.

On a final note, sticking to a position when that position is no longer valid means you are either a blind lover or a blind hater.

If Babar proves himself under pressure - and he is beginning to do so - I will be the first to admit that my reservations and doubts were misplaced.

It was a master piece, will be remembered a good innings for a long time.

Mamoon denies he ever said Babar should be dropped from the test team. The evidence says otherwise SarfiBabarHaris

It is not a question of love or hate; there is no need of going to those extremes, but the question is, does Babar deserve to be dropped from the Test team? At the moment, undoubtedly so. However, this doesn't mean that he doesn't have the potential to be a good Test player in the future.

People need to tone down their rampant fan-boyism at times. Babar is severely undercooked at F/C level at this stage and Test cricket is not a platform where you will teach a baby to walk.

At the moment, he belongs in domestic 4 day cricket and not Test cricket.

I have seen him multiple times changing his position and then brag later how he was right. Lmao!

Atleast we are consistent and don't change our views for point scoring.

Whats this Mamoon :srini

We could have said the same about Virat after Eng in 2014, how well a 24 year old will do years from now is not dependent on one series. So lets not be ignorant with premature comments be it under or over rating a talent.

Really excellent and mature inns, playing to top of his talent now, hes wasted at number 6 position though with our tailing starting at 7.

Babar has the second highest average in tests this year anyways.

He deserves all the praise today. Always knew he would come in good in tests.

Babar Azam oozes class! Easily the classiest batsman coming from Pakistani ranks since ages..

Hopefully his team mates will have less brain fades come the 2nd inns and help him post a 220+ target which should be beyond SA playing last on this track

Phenomenal knock from Bobby. One of the best i have seen from a Pakistani batsman in a long long time. It reminded me of Hardik Pandya's effort in South Africa early in the year. Counter attacking knocks are always amazing. Well done bro.

Yeah man gutted about that.
At least it means imam will be dropped now as Shan looked good.
Silver linings and all that

Damn, where to start about that masterclass.

You aren’t ordinary if you play an ATG like this.

Babar has started coming into his own in last few months. He is standing out amongst his peers.
Hopefully many more to come. Congratulations to all Pak fans.

I think the South Africans expected Pakistan not to put up a fight and self-destruct as always.

The aggression from normally defensive-minded players like Babar and Azhar has set a great precedence.

What an innings, wow. I hope the Pakistani management have him batting at number 4 from now on.

The joy of watching a Pakistani batsman play with such a flow after such a long time is unparalleled. Absolutely made my day.

Promote him up the order. Your best batsman should bat at No.3 or No.4.

He is not a baby. He has been playing for over 3 years now. Why he is being hidden down the order is puzzling. He is Pak's best batsman by a country mile. If he cannot play at 3 or 4 position, then no one else can.

Top innings lets hope he pushes on and keeps building on his game. Babar is still suspect against quality spin bowling.

Have watched the highlights now, as I couldn't watch it live, was truly a class innings, from a classy player.

Those drives did remind of Kohli. A shame that he couldn't convert this to a century.

On a sidenote, let's see whether he repeats this performance on this tour.

Great innings. He has really gone from strength to strength. An attacking century overseas could have done him a world of goods.
Have the team management gone nuts? Why is he batting at no 6. Bat him at 3 or 4.

He should bat higher. Good knock today.
