Najam Sethi in his presser:

“I think you will appreciate that over the years, PSL is the biggest T20 brand in the private sector after the IPL.”

"If I recall right, I don't think such a star-studded event has happened in the past; There may have been one or two but this time, the PSL, will really be a star-studded event."

"All other leagues which are happening now have been planned to happen before PSL because they knew that if they came in competition with us, they would not be able to compete with us in prestige and value, so that is a sign that our PSL is really flying."

"This flag has been kept flying by previous administrations and Inshallah we will keep it going."

"Having a PSL game and an exhibition match in Quetta are two different things - there are differences in requirements and conditions, one is an international game and the other a domestic level match, so when I spoke to General Asif Ghafoor about this and international preparations, both in terms of the situation there on the ground and also in terms of the facilities, it was decided that to hold PSL games this year in Quetta will be premature, and to have an exhibition game and get PTV to broadcast it"

"I am astounded by this and also want to ask what infrastructure development has taken place in the past 4 years which has resulted in better upkeep of our stadiums"?

"Allah knows best how long one is here for, but I promise you we will spend whatever is needed to upgrade these stadiums to international levels."

"We have 4 venues at the moment, but we need 2 more venues; We are told that in Quetta the Bugti stadium has been renovated a bit but there is still a lot of work to be done there; If we can prepare this venue by next year and the situation on the ground improves then why not (have PSL games there)?"

Spiciest PSL ever

Lots of toxic rivalries amongst fans and players

I can already sense this year's PSL will be the best. As we know have the best chairman back as well.

Are other leagues (ILT20, BPL, SA20) really planned to happen before PSL purposefully to avoid clash with PSL as stated by Sethi?

BPL likely, pak contingent is big part of BPL, if they were unavailable it would hurt their league.

SA league, unlikely (peak summer is best time for them to have a league anyway) and even for the same money players are far more likely to want to go to SA than Pak

ILT20 plausable, with timings and geography they were pbly hoping to attract some pak viewership too, but they have far too much money to worry abt the PSL taking players from them.

CSA is expecting to earn a profit of INR 10 crores from the inaugral T-20 season which works out to $1.2 million. The PSL earned a profit of $2.6 million from its inaugral edition in 2016.

good message.

What do Butler, Archer and Curran charge for SA league?

Buttler and Livingston $500k each

Moeen $400k

Sam curran $300k

Archer $250k

Most of these players also have IPL contract with the same owner.

SA20 rights for India only is speculated to be $10mn a year. Add the domestic rights and other territories it may be a lot more than what PCB gets for PSL.

Incorrect. PCB made $600k. That 2.6mn is a figure before money was distributed to the franchisees.

This is decorative accounting.

We will sit with them and discuss if they suffered losses and we’re in a position to help them to the tune of US$2 million. Even after that, we will have US$600,000 while we expected to make just US$300,000.”

This guy is a big drama. He needs to keep his mouth shut.

"All other leagues which are happening now have been planned to happen before PSL because they knew that if they came in competition with us, they would not be able to compete with us in prestige and value, so that is a sign that our PSL is really flying."

Not even the BCCI has ever made such an arrogant statement regarding the IPL.

Not even the BCCI has ever made such an arrogant statement regarding the IPL.

Sethi loves to hype up things and portray himself as hero. It's his personality.

He had announced "we are part of Big 4" when get got that bogus MOU from BCCI for 4 home & 2 away series.

Several other such announcements regarding BCCI touring as a result of his diplomacy.

He portrayed himself as savoiur of Pakistan cricket when he announced "we have caught Sharjeel red handed doing fixing" and that "we have concrete evidence of fixing by Sharjeel" the day Sharjeel played two dot balls in 2017 PSL opener. No evidence surfaced and bogus investigation led to Sharjeel getting banned

Not even the BCCI has ever made such an arrogant statement regarding the IPL.

He is not talking about IPL.

But he is a politician and he is prone to such statements.

This is expected.

Main thing is that the PSL is big event in Pakistan cricket - lets keep that in focus.

Because the leader you support doesnt like him thats why?

He is a respected journalist

He is a journalist who speaks on behalf of one party.

Lets leave it at that.

Idea is not to character assassinate anyone but talk about competency - which will only come out based upon results.

He ended up launching the psl.
He was the one that bought cricket back to Pakistan by going after the smaller teams. When pakistan won the champions trophy he smartly used that as a way to get icc to send the world 11.

You cant call the guy incompetent because he got things done in the most difficult of times for pakistan cricket.

Yes the way he came back this time was weird, but than again, thats how each chairman comes. No admin background and being friends with the pm helps .

Sethi was a war time chairman and he delivered now lets see during calm and peace time what he does.

His schduling of psl is a masterstroke as he gave more games to those cities where fans will actually show up. Didnt risk games in peshawar and quetta

Sorry but the way he stated that games will be held in Quetta and Peshawar without any caveats when he came on about holding games there needs to be pointed out also.

That was a political statement done to gain favours and was never based on ground realities that were known at that time as well.

Looks like he is keen to keep up the pace with Ramiz Raja.

Ramiz critics didnt like Rambo imposing his ideas on the team - Sethi imposes Shan.

Ramiz critics didnt like when Rambo insulted South Africa and other nations - Sethi insults their leagues.

Ramiz critics didnt like his lofty statements about Pakistan cricket - Sethi doubles down by making dumb statements about PSL.

And the icing of the cake is Sethis statements asking people to refrain from requesting tickets :)) as if those guys are going to ask on twitter.

He is a master of dramabazi.

Main points

Lack of funds. overseas price bracket not increasing

Zaka tried to dilute PSL with T10

Zaka ' political leverage with Sindh League also damaging PSL with lack of audience in Karachi

Pakistan cricket team performance also affecting PSL

Sethi was the best administrator for psl. Sadly PPP with their greed had him overthrown and replaced with the incompetent Zaka
