"Thought we had best batters in Pakistan playing for us but I'm not 100% sure now" : Mickey Arthur

Some strong comments from Micky Arthur in the end of day press conference yesterday, but the one in the Thread title really stuck out for me.

Putting the batsmen in the team on notice that the Top 6 will need to be addressed before our next Test series and also sending a clear message to the batsmen in the domestic circuit - namely Fawad Alam - that there is still a chance for them in the Test arena.

Micky is someone who has always worn his heart on his sleeve and his emotions are very clear for everyone to see, and in my opinion its great to see him being so open and honest.

Micky went onto admit that he tactically messed up by not giving Asghar a chance in the Dubai Test match, which again is refreshing to see someone owing up to their mistake. Micky also admitted that if the second spinner we had at our disposal was Saeed Ajmal it would be a no brainer, however, the 2nd spinners we have are younger and inexperienced guys.

We knew there would be a period of uncertainty after YK and Misbah retire, however, the question now is - what happens going forward? What will our Top 6 be for the next Test? Does Azhar open, with Haris coming in at 3? Is there space for Fawad in this batting line up? Will Micky have the confidence of selecting a young second spinner if the conditions dictate so?

Interesting times ahead for Micky and the Test team.

I don't think anyone has even told him that there's a guy who averages almost 60 in First class for the past 5 years when barely any guys manage an average over 40.

Shaan and Sami should be dropped they cant play . sami is useless against spin
Shahzad had a terrific record at UAE in test dont know why he is picked in odi but not test . 2 spinners should have ben playing . some tactical errors and wrong squad selection lead to loss

#next test in england... no need to choose players who play well in UAE... shehzad struggles to handle new ball in UAE too.. In England he will be a walking wicket..

I dont quite like it when a coach throws his players under the bus after bad results. Mickey would have seen the players in the nets, he would have been aware of Babar Azam's recent form, he would have seen the quality of the spinners that were selected by the selection committee, if he didn't like them then why did he not object and ask for better spinners to be selected?

If he think Shaan masood is amongst the best batters in pakistan than he needs to be sent packing.
Embarrasing.

Disappointed with both Sami and Shan. Neither of them have the skills to play quality spin. One thing is sure now Azhar Ali with his approach needs to open the batting and he was very successful in that role.

He probably puts more stock in the footage he has of Fawad playing at international level.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him get called up to go to England and open the innings, I'm worried we're sliding back to the good old days of confusingly kneejerk Pakistan selections

Agreed, that's our job!
