A viral video showed students queuing for jobs in Canada, raising concerns about employment opportunities for international students.

A viral video has surfaced showing a long line of students, predominantly from India, outside Tandoori Flame restaurant in Canada, eagerly awaiting job interviews. The footage, which has quickly gained traction on social media, depicts thousands of hopeful job seekers lining up for positions as waiters and service staff. This has ignited significant apprehension among those contemplating studying or working in Canada.

Agamvir Singh, one of the students waiting in line, expressed his frustrations, stating, "I came here around 12 noon, and the line was really huge. We put the application on the internet and were told that an interview would be taken. But nothing like that happened. People are just coming here. I don't believe there is scope for jobs here. It is really tough." .

Another student added, “It's so bad; it’s like everyone is looking for a job, and no one is getting a job properly. So many of my friends don’t have a job right now, and they have been here for 2-3 years.” This sense of disillusionment is not isolated, as many others shared similar experiences of struggle in finding employment after relocating to Canada.

Social media reaction

The video was shared on the social media platform X by an account named @MeghUpdates, highlighting the stark reality faced by students. The post captioned, “Students leaving India for Canada with rosy dreams need serious introspection!”

Comments flooded in, resonating with the alarm stirred by the footage. One viewer commented, “This is a harsh reality check for those thinking Canada is the land of milk and honey,” while another remarked, “It's disheartening to see so many students in such dire circumstances.” A third comment suggested, “Perhaps it’s time for prospective students to reconsider their options and think twice before making such a move.” Others expressed empathy, with one saying, “It’s heartbreaking to see so many hopeful individuals struggling to find work.”

Crickey. Why not go back home. After all India is the 4th or 5th largest economy in the world, surely ample opportunity awaits at home? Or is it all bluff.

It pays more to be a waiter in Canada than India.

Jokes aside, they took a lot of loan , Canada is good if you can actually network and get white collar jobs not otherwise.

Canada also has the high return rate of Indian students for same reason, it’s better for students that are smart but not ones that sold of their parents properties to get a Gori.(Poonjabis)

I am sure Canadian government knows the situation. But they still keep issuing visas to gullible Indian students mostly from Punjab. It seems many of these students who cannot afford to pay rent share a single bedroom apartment with 15 people. I don't know what exactly the truth is. It may be exaggerated, but the fact still remains. Canada is saturated and going through housing crisis.

2 greedy parties trying to play each other. But only one can win.

Every person I know in Canada either are from Punjabi religion or not up to the mark to secure a white color job. Canada has itself to blame for allowing such students.

Job markets in Canada have gone worse under Justin Trudeau. It is far worse in Toronto.

Liberals are bringing in more people than what Canada can handle. That's where the issue is.

Conservative Party needs to fix this issue if they win next election (which is likely).

I am pretty sure Trudeau and his former ally Jagmeet Singh have something to do with this.

So Conservatives should keep fixing Canada everytime Liberals screw up?

Harper not only handled 2008 well but also only took in immigrants with high score.

I am not a Harper fan. I don't vote Conservative as they are anti-Palestine and some of them seem anti-Muslim.

I think Liberal needs to stop collaborating with far-left NDP and stay centrist. Otherwise, they may not be able to win.

I have voted for Liberal Party thrice in the past. May not vote next election as I think Trudeau is not good for economy (which also impacts me).

The only Indians who brag about India being 4th or 5th largest economy are all living outside of India. Then when stories like this come up they start blaming some ethnics like Punjabis just like they do with their "Bimarus" at home. If you poked holes into their ethnicities they'd be the first ones to start crying racists.

I don't see the issue.

You take a job to get some cash such that burden back at home is reduced to as minimum as possible or possibility of paying the interest of the loans. At the same time, study side by side.

That's what I did. I also did unskilled work in my uni days because the financial burden at my home was going more than they could handle.

How the "rosy" dreams are broken? Just because you are applying for an unskilled work doesn't mean there won't be skilled job when you get the degree.

Harper is as anti-Palestenian as Trudeau, who also sold weapons to Israel.

I know. I never liked him. Anyway, he is no longer in the picture. Pierre Poillievre is the current Conservative leader.

COL in Canada is through the roof. I visited Toronto last year and I was astounded at the housing overall taxation rates, etc. USA is like heaven compared to Canada.

People buy houses which cost upwards of million on 30/40 k salaries which is also taxed at over 30%.

Yeah thats just GTA.. not only that the local transit to public infrastructure is a joke.
So many doctors from GTA have been moving to USA consistently.

No, Vancouver is pretty much the same.

That only leaves a handful of other places and they are not as employment rich. By the way the local transit in Canada is still a lot better than USA. Thats one area they have us beat. Maybe NY/NJ area is the exception but apart from that if you go anywhere else, public transportation in the USA is a pain.

I used to be a pr holder of Canada -Ny/Nj, Chicago, DC, LA they all are better by a margin.
Not to forget the time taken for construction in Canada for public transport is a joke- the line extension in east GTA has a decade as a timeline almost.

US is nothing compared to Europe though but the reasons are different, US is not as densely populated as Europe.

Aus seems to have done well in this regard but can’t confirm.

You are correct about the population density in the US and that obviously has a lot to do with the challenge of putting decent public transport for everyone. I don’t think if you live in the suburbs of Chicago and LA, you will find decent public transportation in my opinion. I will give you though that DC along with NY/NJ is much better.

When I visited GTA, I noticed you could get access to train from most suburbs as well. Then again I didn’t spend a lot of time there.

Yes its called “Go train” but Chicago Suburbs also has metra.. Go is better but its also because it owns the tracks unlike Metra, but inner city connection of loops and transits Chicago beats it.

USA and Canada re still the go to places for living a good life with a bright future for your kids much more so than India.
