I am getting sick and tired of Virat Kohli's useless captaincy. It will be helpful for India if we can get rid of his captaincy services before next ICC tournaments. He is too arrogant to learn new things at this stage of his career when it comes to captaincy. Not sure why but it seems even some players don't look happy to play under his captaincy. With him I also want his puppet Ravi Shastri to leave as well. :inti

Yeah, he is a poor LOI captain and loses 85-90% of his tosses also.

He will not give it up anytime soon. He has a much bigger brand value than any other Indian cricketer, that alone is enough for him to continue captaincy for the near future.

Should have been kicked out after losing last WC.

That's the problem with him getting his hand into too many pies. Should have concentrated on his cricket alone.

But not everyone could be Tendulkar.

His ego and arrogance will cost India till 2023 WC. He will carry on for too long just like Dhoni

Please change the thread title to "BCCI should sack Virat Kohli as LOI captain".

There is no way on earth PRat Kohli will resign and play under Rohit of all people. :inti

Dhoni at least won trophies, Kohli has nothing to show in LOI's yet. I have heard that he hasn't even won an IPL trophy under his captaincy even once. I mean if you can't even win an IPL trophy which is a low quality competition how can you win an ICC tournament? :inti

Very lackadaisical in the field especially when India are under the pump. Reminds me of Azhar Ali + pseudo aggression.

Problem with our cricket is that BCCI has allowed Kohli to grow too big for his boots. And he is fully encashing it, literally!

Just relax. Australia is just too good in their home grounds.

By the way, I didn't watch the match. What tactical mistakes Kohli did.

Kohli is too big to play under any other captain now. Also next WC is home World Cup so all more reason for him to stick around.

Only way I see him leaving is if India get humiliated in T20 WC (next ICC event) and he has to resign out of embarrassment and shame. Otherwise don’t see him leaving before 2023 WC.

Also his captaincy record is good. Reached semi final or further of both ICC events he’s captained in. Great record as test captain even if you take into account some holes in the record. Massive media presence and bonafide star status

Rohit is not a small player either. Kohli should have no problem playing under Rohit. Sachin played under Ganguly, Rahul and Dhoni without any problem. :inti

Cricket is a team game, 11 players in the field contribute to the success. Virat Kohli is a very intelligent cricketer who has an aura and personality this gives a lot of confidence to others similar to Ganguly.

Changing him can really affect the morale of the team and his performance as well! India is still top team on near top of all ratings. So let's take a chill pill 😀

How many LOI trophies has India won because of Kohlis aura and personality lol? :inti

It’s all politics now.

India have 90% confidence on winning the 2023 World Cup as a nation, not just BCCI. And Kohli will not surrender his chance to go down in history to be that captain who lifted the World Cup.

India can make Saini the captain in 2023 and he will be fully expected to lift the trophy.

Huge difference between the personalities of Kohli and Sachin. Kohli has too big of an ego to play under anyone.

He has the most number of test wins for India, 33 wins. He brought India to number 1 in tests as well as odi 😀. He can still captain 2 world cups, before he retires, cups will be won. He provides consistency and reliability to the team both as a player and captain.

When he retires he will go off as india's greatest captain and world's best batsman, probably the greatest. Cricket fans should be happy to witness him than complaint. This reminds me of a saying "you will never understand the value of something unless you miss it!"

Saini 😀😀😀😀 let's see if he plays next game first!

The way India are going down right now reminds of what happened when Azhar Ali was the captain against Australia in a the ODIs in 2016. Doubt he will go anywhere before 2023 WC.

Needs to be sacked. But unless we get better selectors/coach, even changing the captain wont mean much.

No way Kohli goes down as a greater captain than Dada and Dhoni. Sorry.

Poor rotation of bowlers by Kohli in both the games. The key in Australia is to rotate your bowlers wisely.

His stats speaks for himself. He has the most test win and if he captain as many games as dhoni he can easily beat him on win loss ratio. There are many icc tournaments coming up next 8 years. India can win easily one or two of it. Then this point of not winning a tournament is going to fade away like a fog.

Keep calm and carry on! 👍🏼

Next 8 years? Lol if he doesn't win the next world cup he should be sacked as captain. He is 32 years old now. You think he will captain India till he is 40? :inti

We need groom the next captain at least 3 to 4 years like how dhoni did for kohli. Sooner we introduce Shubman Gill to the team better it is to groom him, so kohli can transfer it to safe hands.

Top teams like India have plans and long term vision not change captains every six months 😀 you know what I mean.

No need of overreaction.

India have batted superbly in this series so far. Scoring 308 and 338 under lights against this attack without Rohit is a big achievement.

India has been unlucky with the toss because the results could have been different had India batted first. It will be hard for Australia to chase 330+ as well.

Bumrah’s poor form is obviously a big concern as well and it is not Kohli’s fault. Australia have played him very well but he is also bowling well below his normal capacity.

Kohli will captain India until the 2023 World Cup and he deserves it as well. Those who give Sachin’s example and how he played under various captains who were lesser stars than him need to understand that there is a difference between Sachin and Kohli’s personalities.

Kohli is not a reserved and shy person like Tendulkar. It is not possible for him to play under someone else’s captaincy as long as he remains the biggest star in the game.

If this is Superb batting then Batting has declined. Eng here would have actually won It with probably a few balls to spare.

Lol no. There is a reason why no team has ever successfully chased 350 in Australia, let alone 390.

England would never go for 390 in the first place. You have to be ultra mediocre as a supposedly world class unit to go for 390 and only take 4 wickets in the process

Lol no. There is a reason why no team has ever successfully chased 350 in Australia, let alone 390.

This is a different Eng lineup and then again there was no way Archer and co would have conceded that many. I do however believe that Roy and Bairstow had the ability to kill the game in 25 overs.

I agree completely, crazy how we wasted a genuine captaincy material like Rohit, I hope this is not too late.

He will not give it up anytime soon. He has a much bigger brand value than any other Indian cricketer, that alone is enough for him to continue captaincy for the near future.

In terms of popularity Rohit is not too far behind at all and his fanbase is on per with Kohli and Dhoni.

He is no longer the biggest star in the team as far LOI is concerned. Rohit is.

He is no longer the biggest star in the team as far LOI is concerned. Rohit is.
He has only himself to blame for that. He has now stakes into too many things. These things should be done when you hang your boots not when you are at peak of your powers and are supposed to be concentrating on what you are good at.

Virat hit his peak in 2016. He will never be as good as he was in 2016. And now he doesn't look like he wants to either.

Well everyone understands Kohli is not the best captain for India

The bigger issue is how to replace him as captain with Rohit without creating a big mess in dressing room. Its no secret there is big Rohit - Kohli brewing for quite some time. Its no secret Rohit withdrew from ODIs after playing in IPL & now Kohli announced his unavailability from tests - his strongest suite. Of course both have given family " excuses : but its all too clear what's happening in the background

Its unfortunate that a high anticipated marquee series is turning into a lame duck series thanks to all his backroom rivalries

Kohli is proving to be even bigger politician than Dhoni ever was.

He is no longer the biggest star in the team as far LOI is concerned. Rohit is.

Sharma is a better Limited Overs player on current form but he is not even close to Kohli’s star factor and brand value. Kohli remains the face of cricket let alone Indian cricket.

There is a zero percent chance that England would chase 370 and 380+ against this Australian attack in Australia. Maybe they can post 350+ while batting first, but no chance while batting second.

However, in spite of their unreliable bowling, I think England would bowl and field better than India and restrict Australia to around 330-340 which would have made the games relatively competitive.

India’s batting has been very good, but the main problem has been their bowling and fielding. You cannot bowl and field like this and win against a top team away from home.

Then tell him to send someone else for tossing the coin. The guy losses 9 of 10 tosses away from home.

That was true till 2 years back

Right now Rohit Sharma is pretty much on par with Virat Kohli on the pr stakes in India. Kohli's standing has taken a beating in past 1 year after 2019 WC failure , his drop in form & his non stop attention hungry attitude ( along with his wife ) - while Rohit has grown in stature bcoz of his form & his more sober public image

The other choices are not better than him. Nor is he that bad that he should be sacked right after this series either. I think Indian fans are spoiled post Dhoni who was a GOAT captain in limited overs. It’s like once in a decade type cricketing brain which Kohli doesn’t have as a captain but does in batting.

That has to be a joke. You can't say the batting has been good when the first game was over after 10 overs of batting and the second never started.
You can score how many you want, but if you don't even go for the target, these runs are useless. In both matches India batted like they were batting first and Australia allowed them to score those useless runs.

England would have or wouldn't have chase down, but no way they would have played the complete overs and lost by that many runs.
The only few overs India tried to go for the chase they lost 3 wickets in the first 10 overs.

The only other guy who doesn’t look like he will be dropped and performs regularly is KL Rahul. He seems a bit chilled out as well. Don’t think he would be a bad option IMO.

Not sure if Sharma makes any sense at 34, he may just begin his decline at any moment when he hits 35. You are better off keeping Kohli as captain than passing it on to Rohit.

I do think India would be better off with SuryaKumar Yadav or Ishan Kishan in their side instead of Shreyas Iyer.

Why not groom shubman gill? This guy is super talented!

I wrote somewhere else, I am not very sure about Gill’s temperament as a responsible figure, he apparently walked out of a match due to being given out by an umpire. The grooming (weird word lol) can begin after the 2023 World Cup but it might be too late now. He has not nailed a spot in the side....although he is better than Agarwal, Iyer, Pandya as a top 6 batsman.

Right now, you need to stick with Kohli unless he resigns, and KL needs to be their as the back up or the guy to take over in a drastic situation.

Yes i agree to it.. It should be kohli or kl Rahul or even Iyer. But Rohit unfortunately could not until kohli is in the team!

Going by what I have read, it seems like Rohit Sharma has done well as captain in the Indian PSL. Why not jut make him captain?

How often has the best player been a successful long term captain. Not very often, especially not in recent memory.

Pakistan is in a desperate position where there is no alternate to Babar, but India has other options. Let Kohli be Kohli, someone else should take over captaincy

Ego clash. I know fans are frustrated but Kohli did take India to number 1 in tests for 4 years so imo he can do whatever the hell he wants.
Yes we dint win in short formats in the semi finals and finals. It's not like we bombed out early. We played well. Just din't have any luck in semis and finals except 2017 where we got outplayed by Pakistan. We still beat Pakistan in that tournament early during the group stage.

Kohli has done alott for India and as much as I want Rohit to captain the short format side, I am not complaining because Kohli has earned the right to do as he pleases. Just like Dhoni got another chance in 2015. 2019 was a bit much for Dhoni as he was well past his prime.

I just hope Kohli retires after 2024 ish and not prolong his career like Dhoni because it would inhibit the progress of young stars.

:)) That was not a run a ball hundred. He played at an SR of 91.74 in that innings.

Joke of a comparison.

Kohli played a good innings but he couldn’t convert it into a great innings which is what India needed.

His half-century came at a run a ball.

Babar’s innings was the most selfish ODI innings I have ever seen. It was obvious right from the start that he was playing for his century and made no effort to pace his innings.

He scored his half-century at a strike rate of 66 while chasing 370, and he never showed any intent of going for boundaries. It was a completely ridiculous innings.

The only few overs India tried to go for the chase they lost 3 wickets in the first 10 overs.

Going for that target does mean not hitting blind slogs from the first ball. India did go for the target but it was a very steep one and impossible to achieve against this attack in their home.

An example of not going for the target would be what Babar did in 2017 while chasing 370.

As far as England is concerned, it seems like they have become the new love of PPers since yesterday after calling them overrated for the past 5 years.

England and India are both incredible teams but they have different strengths and style of play.

England have a lot of power-hitters and they approach targets differently. When it pulls off it is spectacular but when it doesn’t it gets ugly.

That is the risk they have accepted and it has worked for them because it won them a World Cup in spite of stuttering midway.

So England would have been 330 all out in 45 overs or they could have been 200 all out in 25 overs.

Yes he is, but not in his current form. Right now, he will struggle against Pakistani batsmen as well.

If Kohli or anther Indian batsman would have scored a 50 at a strike of 66 while chasing 370, he would not forgive him for the rest of his life.

This is your bias that makes you see it differently.

Actually they are pretty same innings.
In Babar's case Pakistan was already 4 out, in India's chase, India were 2 out when Kohli was playing.

Babar left 150 runs in 13 2 overs : RRR 11.1
Kohli left 165 runs in 15 overs : RRR 11.

Babar scored first fifty in 76 balls and 2nd fifty in 30 balls. Do you see an acceleration or not?

Kohli was run a ball whole innings. No intent at all.

I criticize both innings because I am not biased. Both innings were not good enough as you don't score that much runs at such a low SR with RRR going over 11.
If anything Babar scored accelerated, Kohli didn't, Babar was 22, Kohli is already world class.

You : babar was one of the worst innings
Kohli did bat brilliantly.

That's the highest degree of bias.

The only bias is from your side.

You are comparing two innings where one batsman scored a half-century at a strike rate of 66 and the other scored at run a ball.

Pakistan were 140/1 in 24 overs and Babar was batting at a strike rate of 65 alongside Sharjeel.

And even after his so-called “acceleration”, his strike was still below 100 and below what Kohli managed yesterday and he was yet to accelerate.

That sums up how poorly paced Babar’s innings as well.

I don’t mind if you say that Kohli’s innings was poor. However, if you think his innings was equally poor as Babar’s, then you are extremely biased (which we know already) and do not deserve to be taken seriously.

Kohli's innings was poor whatever way you look at it.
The RRR was going up and up while Kohli was playing in his own world a run a ball innings without caring about the match.

The RRR was going up and up while Kohli was playing in his own world a run a ball innings without caring about the match.

The innings was decent. His plan was to take it close and take it late. He accomplished the first part but got out when he needed to accelerate. Someone mentioned yesterday that either this will be a horrible knock or a genius one. He tried to go for genius but failed, hence horrible. But I give an A for effort - the knock was good.

Similarly, many of Babar’s knocks where he builds long innings but fails to accelerate in the end are very good, but not genius.

The RRR was going up and up while Kohli was playing in his own world a run a ball innings without caring about the match.

You can call it poor but it was still far better than Babar’s innings.

I would call it a good innings. Poor would be Babar’s innings.

It would have been a great innings had he managed to accelerate and converted his 89 (86) into for example 130 (106) etc.

And Tendulkar was a terrible captain..

Don't see your point, and sorry BVB bhai (the OP), Kohli is an ATG and a one man army, who will you make captain instead? Your team is filled with mediocre players.
Not saying that Tendulkar was a good captain, far from it. What I implied was that unlike Kohli, Tendulkar concentrated on his cricket alone till the time he hung his boots. At the very fag end of his test career, he accepted RS membership by then ruling party.

As for your 2nd point about Kohli being the natural choice for being our captain since he is 1-man army, let me tell you, he is a terrible tactician and even worse team selector.

Has cost us so many games with his terrible tactics and selections!

As for who should be our captain, well Rohit could've been appointed our captain after last WC debacle. Kohli-Shastri duo may consider WC SF as some sort of achievement but it wasn't, we were poor in it and it got reflected in our standing in the WC.

MP2011 bhai, you have your valid points but Kohli is the most successful Indian test cricket captain. He literally revolutionised the whole indian fast bowling set up. Under him, India has a potent bowling attack for the first time in decades.

In LOIs he hasnt done much bad either, lets not fall for recency bias, and honestly with all his achievements, he easily deserves till next WC.

I thought it was Mumbai that deserves credit for Bumrah? Since when does Kohli get credit? The way you’re talking you make him sound like Imran Khan bringing Wasim and Waqar off the streets.

I don't think it was a poor innings from Kohli. 89 off 87 was fine. It was clear what he was trying to do. He wanted to leave 100-110 runs for the last 10 overs with 7 wickets in hand. If India had got to that stage, Kohli, KL and Pandya would've fancied the chase.

It's always about trying to take the game deep. At least give yourself a chance. There's no point in playing at a frenetic pace and losing wickets before the 25th over.

Kohli was unlucky to get out to a brilliant catch. We all know how quickly Kohli can accelerate. His next 50 could've come in 20 balls. He's that good.
