ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan pacer and head coach of Lahore Qalandars Aaqib Javed said Tuesday that Pakistan cricket team can still make a comeback and win the title of Asia Cup if they play their natural game in the remaining matches. Talking to media, the member of Pakistan’s victorious squad of World Cup 1992 said that team took unnecessary pressure in two games against India. “Pakistan and India games are always of pressure, but it seems that Pakistan cricketers took too much pressure of it and couldn’t deliver in these two matches against arch rivals,” he said.

“What I have seen is that players aren’t playing against their natural styles. Fakhar Zaman is a flamboyant aggressive batsman but he is trying to play steady knock while Imam who is known for steady batting was trying to play shots like Fakhar,” the former fast bowler said. He, however, said that it was still not over for Pakistan and team can make a strong comeback.

“We have to make a comeback and I am sure we will,” Javed said, adding that the game against Bangladesh would be an encounter of two teams with poor form. “Pakistan will have to prove that their form is still not that poor,” he said. While expressing disappointment at Muhammad Amir’s form, Aaqib said that its management’s duty to keep his confidence high. “To drop him after one match will only dent his confidence. Pakistan must play him in remaining two matches,” he said. “Our team have already been bashed by fans, but it is high time for skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and co to forget everything and show in the ground of what they’re capable of,” he maintained.

Lol is the confidence of one player more important than the needs of the team? The team needs in form bowlers and bowlers who are picking up wickets.

sir, he wasn’t dropped after ONE match..

He in fact played every match for the past 2 years.

If only other young players can get this much support. Amir's support is unjustified on many levels. Yes he bowled brilliantly in the CT finals but was that so great? Pakistan scored 330 in the finals which 9 times out 10, with or without Amir, Pakistan would have defended. Do Amir fans actually think he needs to get free pass for his entire career in hope that he will repeat that performance sometime in the future? It is hard to understand.

What one match? There have been quite a few matches over the course of this year and he hasn't given a notable performance in any of them.

I think Junaid Khan deserves a chance in combination with Shaheen Shah to see if they can contain runs and take wickets.

Literally fell of my chair laughing at louds. I mean he has taken 3 wickets...YES 3 this year.. and played every match...where does this phenomenon of dropping after one match comw from??
Amir is over rated it is harsh but true . The whole bowling squad is overated infact. Even afghanistan has bowled better let alone india

I honestly can’t believe how much support amir gets for somebody who has figures that would make an all rounder blush. I know UAE is difficult for swing and seam and I know amir has had catches dropped but the one thing we all believed was that he had guile, craft and control. These are constants that shouldn’t dim with time only become further polished.

I have to ask. Even after everything, why does Amir get so much support from everywhere?

Is it just because of that 2009 English tour? Because I remember Ishant Sharma on his 2008 Australian tour and he looked even better than Amir. But nobody in India had this much patience with Ishant as Pakistanis have with Amir.

This is Pakistan cricket team. Not Muhammad Amirs personal property. If he performs he will play. But when he is bowling rubbish and not showing any motivation or interest, why should he be playing ? I have defended him a lot in these 3 years but I am sick of his lack of motivation and him thinking he can turn up when he wants. When you are playing for country, you should be honoured that out of millions you have the honour of representing us. That is a enough of a reason to give your 100 percent regardless of form. Amir should sit out for a few games , improve his bowling and remember how much PCB and the fans have backed him. In any other country, he would have been thrown away and never played again. But our country is cricket crazy and willing to forgive. He should be thankful that he is getting a chance to represent his country. No more patience now and no more excuses. Amir needs to start producing with wickets and showing more aggression.

What confidence?? He has been totally useless in recent outings... needs to be dropped as he looks clueless on uae surfaces.. Junaid Khan,s record in uae should have given him an edge over Aamir’s reputation..

If catches dropped of hois bowling were taken, he would have been on of top 5 wicket takers this year.
He should be in team.

No one seems to ha leve answer on how to fix amir

This year his low economy and lack of wickets suggests that he is bowling way too defensively.
He needs Waqar like attitude , who never bothered about getting hit but always keep attacking.

Can the technical experts here throw some light on this? What changed? Is it his wrist position or run up or something else? There was no swing for anyone in UAE but Amir always had this kick or bite off the pitch. It seemed lacking too

Its time to treat this over rated cricketer at par with the others and drop him and ask him to earn a recall into the team.

I have watched Aamir with great awe over the years. There is no question of talent. However he seems to be having a crisis of confidence. Having said that, I don't think he should be in the team owing to his current form. He needs to sort himself out in the domestic tournaments and then gain his place in national squad even at the risk of him not being present in 2019 WC. The WC wickets are not going to be any different that the current wickets in UAE.
