To make something out of this, should Pakistan and Australia declare an innings each?

we have practically had one complete day washed out. This track is a flat pancake. We could lose more overs due to weather being unpredictable. I seriously would consider this option if more time is wasted in the game. Make a handout of this, let Australia chase 450 odd in 2 days after both teams declare an innings each? Wouldn't that just be epic? It would also open doors for future declarations as such in which teams would think it's more important for the sake of the game that a result is derived instead of nothing. I really don't think winning or losing means anything if they game of cricket itself is at loss.

How abt Australia just declare Pakistan winner for rhis testand focus on third test for series decider?

Even if they do that, day 4 and 5 will be complete washout according to weather forecast...

Yea I think Pak should quickly get 40-50 runs today and declare.

I think OP meant Pak will declare now and forfeit their next innings as well and Australia will have one innings to chase whatever score Pak made in the first innings

It's happened once before as far as I know and it has gone down as one of the most famous Test matches of all time

Also, Australia must forfeit their first innings..so it's a win or lose chase for them

Why would australia do this? The onus is on Pak to make the play because pak is trailing by 1_0 not australia, so a draw would only benefit Aus, because it will make sure two things, aus can't lose this series, at worst they will get a drawn series if they lose 3rd or can win series even if they draw 3rd test as well. On the other side a draw here mean pak cannot win series and at best can draw series after winning the 3rd test. So it's must for pak to win this test to keep their hopes of winning the series alive, Aus would gladly take even a draw, the only positive pak will get out of a draw is that they will not get whitewashed 3_0 4th time consecutively in Oz, and this will break 10 losses on the trot in Oz sequence, and pak will atleast not lose the series in first two matches itself and series will be still alive in 3rd test, and pak will still have chance to draw the series. So draw for pak as well isn't the worst outcome.

Why on earth would Aus declare their innings?

They're 1-0 up, Pakistan have to make all the plays to take it to a decider.

Aussies will be hoping it keeps raining. It's a meaningless thread this one. You don't make silly decisions when you are 1-0 up just to make the series "interesting". Rather I think in test cricket five days must be played. In the even of rain or any such interruptions they should be made up after until the period is over.

Used to happen in uncovered wicket era when teams used to declare the whole innings to take advantage of sticky wickets
