Is that a full strength Kent XI?

Is that a full strength Kent XI?

Their XI in their last county match was: Bell-Drummond, Dickson, Kuhn, Denly, Crawley, Stevens, Gidman, Rouse, Henry, Stewart, Podmore.

So their batting is largely intact but their bowling is virtually a 2nd XI attack.

Kent were bowled out for 64 and 153 in their recent Division Two County Championship match so this isn't a side Pakistan should be stumbling against.

Hope our batsmen get into good nick.Opposition doesn't seem too strong so hopefully we do well.

Was it not Virat Kohli who said that the English tactic of not providing quality warm-ups was unacceptable? Nothing has changed it seems. Players cannot then be blamed when they falter against proper bowlers when the test matches start.

Hmm interesting selection. Wasn't expecting Azhar at 3 or Babar at 6. Maybe it's a shootout between Sami and Imam to see who will get the 2nd opener's spot.

Abbas might be playing for Leicester. Makes sense as it means that he's getting game practice for them and the other guys can get game practice here.

He's with the squad right now, not Leicester

Joe Denly playing for Kent so another Pak connection there :)

Pathetic!!!! Why can't management prepare Sad and Usman for Shafiq??? Our thick tank does not think properly.

Sami and his tuk tuk!!!! Our prayers only know either slog or blog, nothing in between

Understand what they are trying to do here. First game, tough conditions - need to get used to it.

Not too fussed with Abbas sitting out today since he's been in England for a while so has probably acclimatised, but will be furious if he doesn't get the test. Also Azhar Ali just got bowled

I think your missing the point
Think tank are doing an absolute great job
Shafiq will be in the playing x so he needs practice
And adjust to the conditions

This is the problem with the Azhar-Sami combination. Both are so slow and if they get out early, they take the scoreboard nowhere.

Not just talking about this game, it’s been happening for ages.

Thats's how Sami is good for!!! Can block 50+ balls scoring around 20+ runs. This player still don't understand about play positively. Only knows how to block and block and eventually gets trapped in the end with nothing to show for. Same with Babar not make for test either

The dismissal doesn't inspire too much confidence. Hope Azhar finds his form before the international matches start.

yep

that's why I feel that there is nothing to loose with going with Fahkar

Should have played Usman or Saad instead of Imam and Abbas in place of Rahat.

Well Abbas has been playing in county cricket so he may not need the practice as much as the rest.

Would have preferred Saad Ali over Imam or Sami though.

Listening to the commentators the conditions seem to really tough.

Azhar Ali is touring there living there in UK for 9+ years. When we need to blame tough conditions then what is the need to keep these seniors?

Hilariously all the garbage has been put in this match and they are behaving as per expectations against Grade 2 cricketers justmoving the ball slightly. No matter what the conditions once I saw Imam, Azhar, Sami, Shafiq playing in the batting order. Knew instantly it would be miracle if Pakistan makes 200.

If they have taken domestic performers they should've played them in.

Rooting for Arthur to pull atleast 3 test debuts for match v Ireland, Azhar, Sami and CS nephew Imam will only keep us away from watching the match.

Excellent team selection, and I'm delighted to see Pakistan play two proper First Class matches and an Ireland Test before the England Tests start.

Fakhar would be out in 2 balls against Anderson in these conditions. We need Azhar and Sami to basically block out the new ball. Leave the majority of the scoring to the stroke makers in the middle order when the new ball loses it shine.

I also like the idea of Azhar Ali at 3 in Tests.

Jimmy and Broad are quite likely to get the openers cheaply: I'd rather see Azhar come in a little later.

Haris Sohail out LBW, he was beaten and hit on the pad on 3 consecutive deliveries, rather concerning

I thought you wanted us to play 5 bowlers. We're only playing 4 with one being an inexperienced leggie.

He probably would, but its not like Sami or Imam has amazing techniques, plus Fahkar has the best domestic record of the lot

No he wouldn’t.

Haris gone

and now it all depends on Asad Shafiq and Imam ul Haq to build a partnership.
:))

If I would've betted on these players since last year of them getting out on 5 in under 60 runs, I would've earned a lot. THis is how consistent they have been doing poor job.

Sami is the most negative young player I have ever seen. Had he born in England he would not play in even in 2nd grade teams. Unfortunately he does not have any future

2nd practice match both Usman and Sad should play ahead of Babar and Sami.

Terrible shots from Azhar and Sami!

Azhar looks super out of form. The batting so far doesn't inspire much confidence to be honest. These guys would be ripped apart by the England bowling. All this talk about Pakistan having a better bowling line up is not strictly true. English bowlers in these conditions are excellent!

he actually has a really impressive shot range but has been very timid in the international circuit thus far , a lot like Shafiq unfortunately

Wow Imam is playing quite well. If he can keep playing like this I would definitely take him over Sami.

Strangely enough, the run rate isn't all that bad (compared to Misbah era). Do you guys think the end result would be the same? They can tuk tuk to 200-250 all out Misbah style or go for an aggressive approach and still end up at the same score.

I've written elsewhere that I don't think Faheem Ashraf is good enough to be part of a Test attack, not even as fourth seamer.

I'm okay in early season matches in England with going with an extra batsman and letting Amir and Rahat take the wickets. But after the Ireland Test, if the batsmen have hit form I'd move Sarfraz up to Number 6 and add Mohammad Abbas to this attack.

Apart from timidness he plays slow like 60s cricket but score almost nothing

Huge accusation players in 60s and 70s played with a strike rate of around 40-60. Sami Aslam career strike rate is 31.39. His average is also not even that great.[around late 30s].

Lot of sky cover, looks an ideal situation for clouderson to run through batting lineups..

Lot of positives here, Good team selection and pushing the batsman to play under cloudy conditions and test themselves out before the stern test comes with England

give another game and innings to sami and should continue the same lineup by pushing asad shafiq above Haris to maintain the left right combo. This will help to tackle the rhythm of the bowler by adjusting their line and lengths frequently..

Many questioned the selection of Imam as nepotism, but looks like the right one.. Mickey has straight away given him the chance ahead of Fakhar and Usman which means he has a better technique to play tests then..

During under 19 world cup when Sami was scoring tons of run in road like Asian conditions, I predicted Imam as a better future prospect based upon his far better technique and positive approach.

Now a days he can not even do that either. How did he develop timid approach. Makes me really angry.

I agree, but how did he fare so well against England in 2016?

They are both going to have long and illustrious Test careers. And so is Babar Azam - he just wasn't ready to bat at 3.
