Very average A side..is this the best Inzi can find? TTF’s?

Australia A go to Lunch on Day 3 of their 4-day tour game against Pakistan A on a strong 291/2; The Marsh brothers have put on an excellent partnership of 187 with Mitch Marsh (99*) and Shaun Marsh (84*); Australia lead by 13 runs

311/3, hundred for Marsh and 94 for his brother

Looks like a fair few have not grasped the concept that you do the bare minimum for the touring side when it comes to warm up matches prior to a test series hence the reason for not picking a proper specialist spinner but part timers. The end result is expected. If Australia struggled against this side then I would have to question whether they belong to Test cricket let alone compete in Asian conditions.

You are right but some of these bowlers are going to be part of the playing XI in the series, which is what I am worried about. I hope they deliberately didnt pick up any wickets in this practice match

The Rahat is lulling them into a false sense of security, waiting for them to become complacent before he strikes in the test series. What a tactical mastermind. :rahat1

Those in contention for the XI out of those who've bowled in this match so far are, Shafiq and possibly Wahab Riaz. The former has bowled 33 overs and lets face it he's rubbish even for a part timer, so it shows Pakistan are doing the most to not aid Australia's preparations for the test series whatsoever, so I don't have any problems with that.

Wahab is there because he needs to prove himself if he wants to be part of the XI, so he needs to pick up rhythm and acclimatise to these bowling graveyards under the sun.

Pak lost to Ban in Asia cup
Pak u 19 lost to Ban u 19 in u 19 Asia cup
Aus A 400+ /4 against Pak A

Bad times to be a Pak fan, I reckon.

Best Phast Bowler in the country, wicketless with couple of no balls:riaz

Guys relax. The result of this game doesn't matter. We are basically playing with 3 bowlers with only one, Wahab Riaz, having some future potential for UAE test matches. We will see a different A side against NZ A and England Lions.

Renshaw suffers knock in tour game

Australia have suffered an injury scare ahead of their two-Test series against Pakistan, with Matthew Renshaw copping a nasty head knock in their four-day tour match in Dubai.

Renshaw was being monitored by medical staff on Sunday morning (local time) after he left the field following a blow to the helmet in Australia's warm-up game against Pakistan A.

Fielding at short leg to off-spinner Nathan Lyon, Renshaw was hit in the side of the helmet by a powerful pull shot from Pakistan A batsman Abid Ali.

The fact the ball ricocheted high into the air to offer Tim Paine a simple catch and Nathan Lyon his sixth wicket of the innings was cold consolation for the Australians, who gathered around Renshaw to check on his well-being.

The 22-year-old pulled his helmet off immediately after the blow and sat with his head in his hands, before Paine helped him to his feet as medical staff came on the field to inspect the damage.

Renshaw was able to walk off the field alongside the team doctor before going into the ICC Academy change rooms for further checks.

Renshaw is not expected to bat in Australia's first innings. A short time after the incident, Pakistan A were dismissed for 278 and Usman Khawaja was moved up to open in Renshaw’s place alongside Aaron Finch. Lyon finished with eight wickets.

Lyon shines on opening day of tour
Australia were awaiting a verdict from the International Cricket Council on whether a substitute is permitted to bat in Renshaw's place. The tour match has official first-class status.

Renshaw had fielded at short leg for the majority of Pakistan A's first innings, with spinners Lyon and Jon Holland bowling the lion's share of the overs.

Renshaw has a history of concussions, with his most recent one coming in a bizarre warm-up incident on the morning of a JLT Sheffield Shield match for Queensland in March. He was subbed out of the game but the injury was not serious.

The opening batsman was also withdrawn from 2017 New Year's Test in Sydney against Pakistan having been first hit by a bouncer while batting before copping another blow while fielding at short leg two days later.

Renshaw took a catch fielding at short leg on Saturday's first day off Lyon to remove Usman Salahuddin.

The incident on Sunday was an unfortunate end to Abid's innings, who batted superbly to keep the Aussies at bay on a turning pitch for almost all of the first day.

While rebound catches off a fielder’s helmet were not previously permitted, the ICC amended the rules last year to make them legal so as not to discourage players from wearing helmets while fielding in close.

Australia management keeping close watch on Matt Renshaw

The opener Matt Renshaw is under close watch by Australia’s support staff just days away from the first Test against Pakistan in Dubai, having been struck on the helmet during the ongoing tour match against Pakistan A.

On Sunday, Renshaw was hit on the helmet when fielding at shot leg and forced off the field immediately with the team doctor. He was subsequently withdrawn from the game as a precaution but was seen in lively spirits on the sidelines of the ICC Academy in Dubai on Monday.

With a history of concussions, Renshaw is being carefully monitored by Australia’s medical staff with hopes that he can be fit for the start of the Test series on October 7.

Speaking to reporters after stumps on day three, Australia’s Test vice-captain Mitchell Marsh said the progress was good. “It’s never nice to see someone get hit in the head, but from what I’ve heard from the doctor he’s getting better and better,” said Marsh. “He seems in good spirits now. It’s always a bit of a shock to see someone go down like that but from all reports he’s all good now.”

Australia’s squad includes the uncapped Aaron Finch as an opening option, as well as Usman Khawaja who has done the job twice in his 33-Test career.

Australia have declared on 494/4 on the final day of their tour game against Pakistan A being played at the ICC Academy in Dubai;

Pakistan A struggling against Australia after losing Shan Masood (41) and Sami Aslam (12); Abid Ali and captain Asad Sahfiq at the crease as Pakistan A reach 60/2 * (14 ov), trailing by 156 runs

59 run partnership between Asad Shafiq and Abid Ali providing some comfort to Pakistan A at Lunch on Day 4 of the tour game against Australia in Dubai; Pakistan A are 114/2, 102 runs behind Australia

Any special reason of playing with Abid Ali who is 30 years old and got avg around 30s?

Asad Shafiq and Ajinkya Rahane. Both talented batsmen who have regressed/stalled badly mid career. If they don't fix their problems over the next year or so, they'll be doomed to mediocrity

Salahuddin is a good batsman but has batted very timidly in this match: 1(16) and 4(29).

Hafeez has to play

Our batters are horrible against any decent spin and I expect Lyon to cause major problems.

With no misbah and YK to blunt the spin bowlers, Hafeez is the only other one that plays spin well

2 Aussie specialist spinners (both finger spinner by the way) have taken an 8for & a 5for in this game against a PAK A batting line-up with 6 of the top 7 having Test experience ....... then Ul Haq picks Shadab & Bilal - then sends MoHa as savior.

Come on man - PAK must be better than this in cricket intelligence.

Very unimpressed by Usman Salahuddin so far. Hasn't made any impact to warrant a place. Can't believe Fawad Alam didn't make the A team even when we have plenty of mediocre players in the same line up

Arthur simply doesn't think any spinner is good enough for international level in Pak domestic cricket. His selections in Asia cup and this series are a reflection of that.

And remember, they did that bowling first in a 4 Day game. Imagine AUS winning toss and posting 343 by lunch on Day 2 in a 5 day Test........!!!

I am not sure if Arthur or Ul Haq bothers for spinners in domestics or actually has seen any one. Asghar was picked once after his PSL heroics in one season, now Nawaz is cashing on same (PSL) for 2-3 years. There might not be ready made quality spinners in domestics either, I don't know (& these days I actually trust less on PP - long back I had own contacts to scout players for club, not any more), but there are few finger spinners performing admirably in last season & half of this season; they deserve to have a look.

A team selection (against Aussies) I understand, but that you can do when you have identified you first 4-5 sure picks for the squad. For example, IND might pick 2-3 rookies to give practice to tourists, as they have the order set - Ash, Jad, Kuldeep, Chahal, Axer .... here Ul Haq has set Iftekhar to give Aussies practice for 65 overs, then has sent Bilal, MoHa & Shadab to challenge Aussies in Test match!!!!!

One thing is for sure if Pak have to win they have to bat first and put scoreboard pressure on aussies with the mediocre spinners they have because if not they might be under serious pressure as I expect lyon to run through their line up atleast once in four innings.
