Hi there guys, first post! I just wanted to ask what your opinion is, as i'm quite confused on which to go for, on the two styles of the cricket bat. the two styles being the traditional style, such as the newbury cricket bat range, vs the modern style such as CA and what have you.

I understand that the sweet spot on the newbury bats is much wider but as it has thinner edges i thought that yes it has a wider sweet spot but a weaker one because there's less meat behind it??

I understand that modern bats have large large spines then a fair amount of concaving then thick edges so the sweet spots are narrower and the ball doesn't go that far if you don't hit the ball in the sweet spot but isn't it true that even if the ball isn't hit on the sweet spot where the high spine is, due to the thick edges and the still considerable amount of meat behind the bat on either side of the sweet spot, the ball will still go further? - as the thickness of the blade still is larger in that area compared to a traditional bat so there's still more meat behind the ball even when its not hit in the high spine sweet spot area?

sorry if its confusing but its hard to explain it by text! i hope you understood

thanks

U want idealy a ca style bat but without concaving BUT not overly dried. Iv tried. Oth types of bats and settled for a medium edge, 35-38mm edge but a good spine of about 62mm and no concaving. Everyone is diferent tho

i've heard CA bats have very small sweet spots and don't sound very good outside the sweet spot. if i would get a CA, i'd get a CA 10000. what's your opinion on it

To be honest i have used CA12000,12000 TRD and CA15000. All were equally good and had long sweet spot .

Dont go too much on which model ca, all the top end can be awsome or territble. It realy does depend on the individual blade as CA are very inconsistent in regards to the amount of concaving and the all important pressing
