Hi guys,

My wife and I are visiting Toronto for two weeks in February. Please share suggestions on the must-visits, things-to-dos?

Thanks in advance! :sarf2

Just to add. We both are non vegetarians and I am a big foodie and a steak lover. So suggestions for good restaurants are most welcome.

In the winter? Go visit PATH – Toronto's Downtown Pedestrian Walkway.

Get a good duvet and curl up in the hotel room

It will be too cold

Visit Niagara-On-The-Lake, Niagara Falls, Downtown, Ripleys Aquarium, CN Tower, Casa Loma and enjoy thousands of restaurants. Toronto has a big scene of live concerts and stage shows. But you are coming at the wrong time. Should have came after April.

I know the timing isn't that great, I didn't get to those it tbh. Have to travel during this time.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am taking note of each of them.

Please share some suggestions on places that serve good beef steaks. Been some time

I don't think this is a good time to visit Niagara, but you should explore around downtown. Check out the UofT campus too, there are some nice buildings. If you like shopping, there's the Eaton Centre, Square One, Vaughan Mills, Sherway Gardens, Yorkdale, etc.

Unless the weather is nice (i.e. 10+), going anywhere outside for extended periods is likely going to range from unpleasant to very unpleasant. You could do short bursts (i.e. 20-30 mins). Downtown Toronto gives you this option because you can use PATH as mentioned or walk into buildings. Eaton Center, Dundas Square, CN tower, Harbourfront, Ripleys Aquarium are all nice places to check out. As for beef steak, I used to go Affy's premium grill quite frequently and loved their steaks. They have one location in Mississauga and one in Pickering. Another place I liked for beef steak was Pepper Walk in Mississauga.

What is the best time to visit Toronto/Canada?

If you like winter then skiing, tubing are good options; there are multiple places near Toronto for that purpose.

I have tried halal steak at Affy's in Pickering and Sizzling Skillet in Scarborough and both are good.

I would tell you to come to Montreal but since ur coming in febuary the weather is even colder than torontos regardless I do hope you enjoy your stay in Canada

Congratulations for visiting in the worst time of the year :))

Worse time to visit Canada

Most of the people have given great suggestions already.

Since you’ll be able to see most of the Toronto in two days, I’d suggest you to drive up to Blue mountain resort, an hour and half drive from Toronto. I’ve never been there in winter but I’m sure they’ll have winter activities.

Niagra falls will be boring in winter but if you have never been then you must go.

No one has mentioned Distillery District, one of my fav place to visit for a stroll in summer, I know it’ll be cold but still go there, it’s near downtown Toronto.

On food.
Affy’s grill for the steak (one In Pickering is much better than one in Mississauga)
Havali for halwa puri nashta
Karahi boys for Karahi
Cafe D khan for bihari kabob
For desi Chinese, Royal Jasmine

Enjoy!

You will lose permanent residence if you don't spend 2 years within the next 5.

Ya, I know. Running that risk. However, I am moving to US right now and would prefer staying there for at least a few years. Let's see what life has in store

Toronto can be easily done in Feb in 2 days. Best thing for you to do is head out west to Calgary and/or Vancouver to see the true beauty of Canada. It is peaceful and beautiful. Canadian Rockies is regarded is probably the best place to visit in the world. GO to Banff and Jasper National Park. Go to Whistler, near Vancouver. Visit Grouse mountain in Vancouver (weather is always great in Vancouver year round).

If you haven't been out to western Canada, you haven't seen Canada. Toronto is just a city, where you can find things in any other city of the world. I suggest you highly consider a flight to Vancouver or Calgary.

Yeah I agree with this, if someone bases their opinion of Canada just on Toronto they wouldn't speak highly of it then. Heck even Montreal is an amazing place to visit. Then we have cities on the East coast that are wonderful (but only in the summer)

Thanks for sharing your perspective. This would be our first time to Canada and we don't have much idea. Will discuss with the Mrs.

This. When many people think of Canada, they only think of Toronto. Canada is a huge country. I find Montreal and Quebec city more interesting than Toronto for their history, the language and the architecture. Haven't been to Vancouver or Calgary but I've heard a lot of good things about Vancouver.

OP, Montreal isn't too far away. Unfortunately you are visiting in winter so Montreal might not be pleasant either, but check the forecast and if it looks good you should try it.

How is the job market in Western Canada for IT? Some times I think about going there for a contract but heard that living expenses are very high

Go to Ozzy's Burgers. Best burger place we have here.

The owner of Ozzy's Burger is my friend. He used to work at Top Gun Burger and had a falling out with its owner and said to them hell with you I will make my own burger shop which will be better than yours, and it ended up being true. However, he needs to get a bigger place so that there is ample seating. :sarf2

Sometimes in restaurant business, going bigger, is the cause of the downfall of the business.

I have never been there, I will on my next visit to Canada, so I can't say much but sometime the smaller the restaurant the better it is.

Ozzy's, Burgenator and Top Gun all three are in Kensington Market.

If you are in IT, then Ottawa and Toronto are better places. IN terms of living expenses, food and stuff is pretty much the same, cheaper housing. My Parents are in Toronto along with rest of the family and I myself lived there few years back. I feel it is more expensive there now unfortunately. Lesser professional jobs as well, but more part-time jobs.

Oh man, Mohamed Ozzy? I have the guy on insta lol.

That's interesting to know. And yeah, they definitely need a bigger space lol.

Advice needed for a weekend Trip to Montreal

I am planning to take my Mrs over the long weekend to Montreal. The plan is that we will depart Saturday Morning and arrive back by Monday at night. I understand that it is a long drive i.e. 6-7 hours but the scenery and drive, view of the country side is among the most beautiful in Canada. However since i am the only driver, i have been advised and told that it is going to be very tiring and that i am much better off going by Via Rail where we will just chill, sit back and relax, have a good time without worrying about driving. Plus i have also been told that having a car in Montreal is useless and that i am better off just using public transport and Uber in the city.

Will be grateful if someone can advise on the top places to visit, resteraunts and cafes to explore. I will figure out the accomodation aspect myself.
