Senior Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has been overlooked by the national selectors and head coach Mickey Arthur in the list of probables finalised to attend the training camp for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka national cricket team.

According to reliable sources, the selection of two more senior players, Muhammad Hafeez and Ahmed Shehzad in the Test squad is also unlikely.

“The selectors, Arthur and the PCB Director of Cricket, Haroon Rasheed recently held a meeting to finalise list of players who will be invited for the training camp for the Sri Lanka series.

“Unfortunately the selectors and Arthur still feel that Umar needs more time to convince them he is ready for a national comeback,” a source said.

Umar was initially picked in the ICC Champions Trophy squad but later sent back home from England after failing a fitness test.

Even in April before the tour to the West Indies, the enigmatic batsman was not picked after failing a fitness test. His fitness and attitude have been a reason of concern for the PCB, selectors and team management.

Umar is presently in England training and undergoing a rehabilitation course to not only improve his fitness but also to overcome a knee problem.

The camp which will be set up from August 20 in Lahore is likely to also witness Hafeez and Shehzad restricted to only the ODI and T20 formats as the selectors and the head coach want to give another chance to left-handed opener Shaan Masood in the Tests.

Masood was dropped after the first Test in the West Indies in April this year.

The source said with the retirements of senior batsmen Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq, the selection committee and management is now banking on youngsters Haris Sohail and Usman Salahuddin to fill in their slots in the Test squad.

“They are a couple of other young players the selectors are keeping an eye on like Imam-ul-Haq the nephew of chief selector, Inzamam ul Haq for the camp while it has been decided to also give a try to off-spinner Bilal Asif in Test and ODI formats,” the source added.

Really hope Shan Masood news isn't true. He is a very average batsman who is not International standard. Sami Aslam is 10 x the batsman Masood is

I would love to hear a clear explanation from the selectors as to why they think Massod is better then Sami. This is a mind bogglingly clear scenario - SAMI IS BETTER THEN MASOOD.

The list of probables hasn't been announced yet... maybe Sami is also in that list.
Lets wait for the list

Rubbish batsman Why is he in news. Should never play for team Pakistan

Fawad Alam I am not fussed about to be honest. Having seen the guy play, I feel that he would not succeed at the highest level. He clearly makes the most of his talent and knows how to accumulate runs. But his techniques would be found out by the top bowlers.

Another example is Sadaf Hussain. I have seen him in the North Staffs League for Burslem and he does not look international material. Bowls around 80mph and no enough weapons to trouble international batsmen.

Masood is completely rubbish and its awful seeing him in a Pakitsn squad.Incredibly limited player.

Masood played a match winning innings against Sri Lanka when Pakistan chased 380.

Sami Aslam has only played cowardly innings at low strike rates which have not helped Pakistan win any matches.

Hafeez in LOIs  I would rather have him retire from shorter formats and play only Tests; Because Malik is still playing, but Misbah and Younus have retired.

Now that oldies Malik and Hafeez are staying in ODIs, we have no choice but to drop Azhar. Even if it means playing Shehzad over him.

I would take Shehzad all day every day over Masood in Tests. Just look at their records. The former is much better. Also, Shehzad scored a fifty in his last match. While Masood failed yet again. A no brainer imo. Hopefully one of Sami or Imam is selected for Tests and they play over Masood now that Shehzad has been dropped. Shan Masood has been a terrible opener for Pakistan in the last few years and he doesn't deserve to be picked over players with more potential.

And Bilal Asif in Tests and ODIs  Look at the three matches he has played, he has been below average. Especially with the bat. Also in his last match, he got out for 2 runs and got mauled for 32 in 4 overs (8.00) while the team was all out for 220.
And he is 31 years old and has barely any international experience. Useless pick.

Again Inzi the Revolutionary is at it with his love for TTFs.

:salute

Thank You Inzi

Wah great yar that they are looking for Haris and Usman as replacement of Misbah , Younis..

Phli dafa koi acha kaam kia hai :p

Haris + Babar + Usman is as good as Pujara + Kohli + Rahane and better than all other middle orders. Pretty confident about that.

Hadn't seen this posted anywhere yet either. 7 tries. If Mickey is in charge his career should be done and dusted now at this point.

Good decision. Many players like Umer don't perform taking their place for granted. His type must be shown the exit door permanently now. He is always unfit or getting in to trouble for one reason or another. Just had enough of him now.
