Pakistan middle-order batsman Umar Akmal has reported a match-fixing offer made to him during the ongoing Global T20 Canada league.

According to details, Akmal has allegedly claimed that a former Pakistan cricketer approached him with a match-fixing offer, which he immediately reported to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit. Akmal is representing Winnipeg Hawks during the event.

Pakistan players given NOC for GT20 Canada League

When the PCB was approached on this issue, the board said that they had nothing to do with the league.

“Canada is handling Global T20 League's administration. Pakistan Cricket Board has nothing to do with it,” a PCB spokesperson said.

Earlier five players from Pakistan were granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) by the PCB to participate in the league. These players include all-rounders Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez, pacer Wahab Riaz, leg-spinner Shadab Khan and middle-order batsman Umar Akmal.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi is also participating in the tournament. Afridi, however, did not require an NOC from the PCB because he has retired from international cricket.

The league began on July 25 while the final is scheduled for August 11.

Another media report has alleged that the ex-Pakistan cricketer who made the offer to Umar Akmal was Mansoor Akhtar

Good job. Too many times these guys are just ignored and continue to ruin the integrity of the game.

Well done. But just shows that T20 leagues are prone to this type of thing. There are way too many T20 leagues.

Yaay Umar Akmal did something right I hope not after accepting the offer a few times.

I don't want to see another drama.

Thank god, Umar becomes a hero for once.

Btw, what were the chances Umar accepting the deal so that he could expose them later on but only for him to get in trouble? :)), it was possible

GT20 Canada: Umar Akmal accuses former Pakistan player of corrupt approach, reports to PCB's ACU

KARACHI: Controversial Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has accused a former Test player Mansoor Akhtar of corrupt approach during the ongoing Global T20 Canada, reporting the matter to PCB's anti-corruption unit.

According to highly-placed PCB sources, a few days back, Umar had reported the matter to the organizers as well as the Pakistan Cricket Board's Anti-Corruption Unit.

He is playing for the Winnipeg Hawks franchise.

Umar reported that a former Test batsman, Akhtar, who was part of the Winnipeg Hawks management had approached him and asked him to play a role in fixing some games of the league.

The 61-year-old Mansoor, who is currently based out of the United States has played around 19 Tests and 41 ODIs between 1980 and 1990. He has reportedly gone incommunicado since complaint came to light.

Umar was sidelined by the national selectors during the recent World Cup after being given a comeback chance in the preparatory one-day series against Australia in the UAE in March-April.

But the flamboyant middle-order batsman has a tendency to get involved in controversies and last year came under the spotlight when he made claims in a television interview about being approached to fix matches by some bookmakers during the 2015 World Cup and during Hong Kong Super Sixes.

I hope these fixers would leave Canadian cricket alone. Cricket in Canada needs growth and good reputations.

Well done, Umar (for reporting it).

Winnipeg Hawks & Global T20 deny working with Mansoor Akhtar

Brampton, Aug 9 (IANS) In a startling revelation, Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal had on Wednesday reported a match-fixing offer which was made to him during the ongoing Global T20 Canada league. Akmal had accused former Test player Mansoor Akhtar, who was part of the Winnipeg Hawks management, of approaching him.

But Bombay Sports Co. Ltd, promoters of Global T20 Canada, and the Winnipeg Hawks franchise made it clear on Saturday that they have no relationship with Akhtar.

The release issued by Winnipeg Hawks reads: “The Winnipeg Hawks franchise would like to clarify statements made in the global media about the affiliation of Mansoor Akhtar with our franchise. The person mentioned has never been engaged by the ownership group to represent or hold any management capacity in our franchise.

“The player mentioned in the article was drafted by the Winnipeg Hawks for the 2nd edition of Global T20 Canada and is currently a player on our team. We would like to officially state for the record that Mansoor Akhtar has never had any affiliation with the Winnipeg Hawks franchise. All of GT20’s partners work closely with the International Cricket Council to uphold the integrity of the game.”

I fail to understand out of all the players why will bookie only target him?

It's not like he score runs every other game :))

His lack of IQ, desperation of not being selected for Pak and his brother's dodgy history, Umar would be the perfect candidate.

I believe that cricket has many shady characters. It probably goes all the way to the top of ICC.

These T20 leagues are always vulnerable to match-fixing and spot-fixing.

International Cricket Council (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) on Friday questioned former Pakistan cricketer Mansoor Akhtar over match-fixing claims made against him by batsman Umar Akmal, according to SAMAA TV.

The 61-year-old was questioned by ICC ACU officer Steve Richardson at the National Stadium of Karachi for nearly an hour. A PCB anti-corruption officer was also present during the questioning.

Richardson is also expected to meet several Pakistani cricketers in the days to come.

Batsman Umar Akmal had claimed that Mansoor Akhtar made a match-fixing offer to him during the Global T20 Canada.

The International Cricket Council has cleared former Pakistan cricketer Mansoor Akhtar of fixing charges.

Mansoor Akhtar was accused by batter Umar Akmal of approaching him for fixing in Canada's Global T20 League in 2019.

Umar Akmal had reported the matter to PCB's anti-corruption unit and the event organizers. Umar played for Winnipeg Hawks where Mansoor Akhtar was also part of the team management.

According to the letter sent to the 64-year-old, ICC Anti-Corruption Unit Senior Manager Steve Richardson clarified that no fixing charge was being levelled against him.

"I am writing to inform you of the outcome of the investigation into the corrupt approach that was allegedly made by you to a player in October 2019. This information has previously been notified to you via WhatsApp," the letter stated.

"The investigation has now concluded, and the ICC will not be laying any charges against you. Decisions are made taking into account many factors however, if any further evidence comes to notice the ICC reserves the right to reopen the investigation. We would like to thank you for your cooperation with the investigation," it further added.
