What's new

Under-rate Mohammad Amir at your own peril!

Yes he was poor, and his ODI performances have dipped since the World Cup. I like Kohli as captain, but I don't think he knows how to use spinners and part-timers. Dhoni was master at the slowing the game down in the middle-overs and suffocating the opposition with spinners and part-timers, but under Kohli, they look like cannon-fodder in the middle-overs and get milked for 5-6 runs per over easily.

KohlI was giving him the slip and he was bowling floaters pitching on middle going straight to leg

Field placing is just one aspect of captaincy. In Limited Overs, he doesn't know how to handle the spinners and get the best out of them. For me, an early indication was when he bowled Ashwin in the last over of the Asia Cup in 2014, and didn't bring the field up to prevent Junaid from taking a single.

Kohli has been an outstanding Test captain, but he looks lost in ODIs. Apart from our choking, one of the major reasons why India has had the wood over us in the last few years has been because of Dhoni's ability to tie our batsmen down with spinners and part-timers in the middle-overs. That is where we lost the plot every time, apart from the 2009 Champions Trophy where Malik and MoYo negated the spinners.

I would stick to my prediction that Kohli will be the first Indian captain to lose to Pakistan in a World Cup. He is much easier to beat than Dhoni.

Agreed though dhoni is a legend so a bit of a harsh comparison at this stage.

Dhoni knew when to sit in but kohli likes to attack.
It is poor of such an experienced bowler not to sort it out though with the captain.

If india had won on Sunday the wood would have continued over the next generation too, but our young guns have got a break now

Muhammad Amir Deserves More Credit

While Our Media is Going Crazy Over Fakhar , Hasan Ali and Sarfraz I feel they are forgetting the real man of the Series for Pakistan was Amir.

First of all the 30 odd he scored vs Lanka in the Virtual QF was absolute gold dust he looked much more compose than Sarfraz.

And Than in the Final his Spell was the one that sealed the Match for Pakistan. He got 3 players who scored 500 runs in the tournament between them and were 3 of the top 4 Run scorers in the Tournament.

Don't u guys feel he deserves as much credit as Fakhar Hasan and Sarfraz!
isn't the media downplaying his efforts? or is he being indirectly punished for that 2010 incident:sharjeel

It is ok.

It was a team effort. The said players have returned home and are getting the spot light.

Amir is still in England.

Amir did well no doubt. He bowled a world class spell in the final.

But one can't deny that guys like Hasan and Fakhar were unknown entities who have proven their worth with an all-round performance through out the tournament.

I am sure amir gets enough love and he himself isn't bothered with all this as much as you seem to be.

Cook names M Asif and M Amir as the toughest bowlers he faced along with Stuart Clarke.

It is true up to an extend. But we should have won 2007 final and WC 2011 SF. Our middle order had bottlers(Misbah and YK) are key reason we lost those battles in middle over. How could those guys be consider legend of spins when they cannot handle part timers from India? - They did not allow team to develop on modern platform and thinking, that's why Azhar was a bad choice as Captain, more of the same...

Credit goes to Fakhar, he did not blindly slog spinners, like Afridi would do. He had method and smartness about it, that surprise Kohli and spinners, they had no answers...

He bowled 6 balls against Kohli. Kohli played 2 ok. Was well beaten on 2 deliveries. Was out to 2 deliveries.
The Sharma dismissal swung in on a road of a pitch.
The Dhawan dismissal - a cross seamer which bounced.

Only a truly world class bowler could do this.

If Amir was underrated or criticised, he only has himself to blame. There is no excuse for his pathetic performances for 2 years and he was one of the major reasons why we are ranked 6th today. Also, he has had zero impact in this World Cup for all his wickets, and that is mainly because he was wicket-less in his first spell against India and Australia. There is no use of picking cheap 5-fers and 3-fers when the opposition has a match-winning total on the board already.

People can blame the other bowlers as much as they want, but Amir has had a problem with taking wickets with the new ball for years now. Also, when other bowlers were taking wickets and Amir wasn't, he was still credited because he was helping other bowlers take wickets by "creating pressure". So what has happened now? Has he stopped creating pressure?

His fans will go to any lengths to make him the bowler that he is not. The only thing that has changed so far is that he is taking some lucky wickets in this World Cup. At least 50% of his wickets in this World Cup so far have been on nothing deliveries, and the Kohli one was a complete fluke.

He deserves some rub of the green he has been unlucky for a while so it’s good he is getting some luck his way once again you are beating the wrong bush Amir is least of our concern right now and can’t say he has been impactless his latter spells restricted Aus to chasable total it’s not his fault if senior
Middle order which includes two of your favourite seniors Malik and Hafeez bottled it.

Thanks bro for tagging me in this great video of Mohammad Amir's incredible, amazing and highly skilled bowling at such young, just like you whenever I have seen this in the past and other stuff like it, tears come up in my eyes for how we missed out on a gem and anger on others who led him into this path and some on Amir himself, that he wasn't able to avoid it.

I only started watching cricket back then in 2009 close to the time when Mohammad Amir debuted, unaware of his talent, but quickly he made my interest deep in this sport and him one of my favourite cricketers ever. I still wonder what would it be like if he played cricket continuously and avoided that horrific past.

He would’ve had 300+ Tests wickets for sure.

Superstar on his way to become an All-Time Great who attracted young children to play cricket.

Those bowling-spells are so soothing to the eyes. Beautiful action...

It is a shame he didn’t have those precious five years.

Life is harsh, isn’t it?

I like Amir but a player who essentially turns up when they want won’t be rated as highly. His lack of heart in certain games is a joke.

Needs to perform with the same intensity he did in the World Cup in the future.

In subcontinental pitches Amir wouldn’t be that effective, Need to groom Afridi and Hasnain for Indian pitches. Amir should be kept as Kohli always gets paranoid looking at his face :yk

Amir is a killer bowler when he plays in England, NZ, Australia, and South Africa.

I have never seen him performing well on Asian pitches. Junaid Khan generally does better than him in Asia.
