well like it or not, we have someone here who will be making a big impact on how Pakistan plays Tests in the future.

Why wasn't he given enough overs in the first innings? Why was he bought on so late in the second innings? He is close to being a regular bowler and is not just an innocuous part timer, he bowls frequently for his side in domestic cricket.

And we were told Hafeez gets a spot ahead of others in tests because he can bowl. We have wasted some of Haris's best years by catering to guys like the professor and Malik.

He really doesn't.

In fact when he came into the ODI team and started bowling, it was completely unexpected - he had barely bowled previously in domestic cricket. Even more recently, he didn't bowl in the Pakistan Cup.

I think he can be a more than useful bowler for Pakistan in all formats.

He's definitely better than just being a part-time bowler.

I have always been impressed with his bowling. Reminds me of Clarke.

Has a lovely natural loop and bowls at the right pace. It is a shame that his bowling potential was not unlocked earlier. He only started bowling seriously after Ajmal and Hafeez got banned.

I remember him getting a 3-fer against the Kiwis in the ODI series in 2014-2015.

As far as I remember, he just bowled few overs in domestic before he came into the national side.

Actually, the most under-utilized part-timer was another Australian, Ponting. He was STUNNING. He could seam it both ways. But he never needed to bowl with Warne, McGrath, Gillespie, Lee. His wicket of Vaughn is still my favorite dismissal to this day. Only Mehdi Hasan's debut wicket of Duckett tops it.

Do you think he has more potential with the ball than Imad?

Both have different roles. Imad is very economical while Haris is a natural spinner. He will probably take more wickets but concede more runs as well.

Yes, the reason I'm asking is because Imad is in the ODI team mostly due to his bowling, so I'm wondering whether his spot in the team as the first choice left armer can be in jeopardy.

He was similar to Younis, who was quite decent too.

I think Haris is not economical enough to be a first-choice LOI spinner. Imad's place is not in jeopardy at the moment, especially with Nawaz falling off the radar and not convincing during the few matches that he got.

Please leave him as a pure batsmen. Just like some previous players who wanted to become allrounder and became neither batsmen nor a bowler. Management should let him concentrate on his batting first.

He's not going to be the first or second option for spin. But he will be used as golden arm like Cronje.

It's not like you roll your arm over a couple of times in the nets and then you forget whether your right hand is on top or left when holding a bat... jeez some of peeps need to chill.

Most good players ride on confidence. greatest of players choke because of lack of concentration. you can mark this post and come back in 6 months if we try to experiment and trying to make a hafeez out of haris. This 'll never work. Haris needs to be solid with the bat no distractions needed. The reason Haris came to bowl because team management decided to use him as a bowler even before the game started. That puts pressure on a player to deliver on both side(to bat/bowl) well. his failure on second innings is a very tiny sample size of what I mean ( and no his failure wasn't because of his batting position)

:)) exactly, look at imran, kallis, kapil. botham, if the above was the case then they all must be creatures from another planet

Being always an all rounder and forcing someone to become an all rounder are two different things.

My theory is that the above mentioned players were some of the toughest mentally and natural leaders, so they did both roles to help their team win.

If Harris succeeds in his role as a spinner without negatively affecting his batting then he is mentally strong.

He gets good revolutions on the bowl. Should be used as a part timer at max. He should aim to become Pakistan's best batsman and should practice and do everything for that. That should be the first priority.

Tendulkar was also a good enough spinner but used as a part timer.

Agreed!!! Just afraid to lose a good batsmen. Good batsmen don't come very often in pak cricket.

Neither is Imad but that is okay.

Modern day LOI sides do not have specialist spinners anymore - just need defensive spinners who can bowl a few overs to give respite to pacers and not totally be taken to the cleaners. Specialist bowlers are a dying art in modern day LOI pitches.

Imad is actually quite economical but tends to have a bad game every now and then. Generally, when he bowls well, he is hard to get away.
