Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif played a vital role in facilitating the ceasefire between Iran and Israel.
Speaking during a meeting with religious scholars ahead of Muharram-ul-Haram, Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s behind-the-scenes contribution, saying, “There is a uniform behind this truce as well,” in reference to the military's role. He added that the nation should take pride in its part in achieving the ceasefire.
Joined by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Naqvi addressed scholars from various sects, expressing gratitude for their continued role in maintaining peace.
He praised the efforts of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, for promoting unity among different religious schools of thought.
Naqvi emphasized the importance of religious harmony during Muharram, noting that Imam Hussain (RA) is a revered figure for all and that peaceful observance of Muharram is a top government priority.
He also stressed the need to involve religious scholars in counterterrorism efforts, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where communities are more vulnerable.
Reflecting on recent conflict with India, Naqvi claimed that with divine help, Pakistan emerged victorious. He said Indian missiles failed to hit their targets while Pakistan responded responsibly, avoiding civilian harm. “One of our missiles struck an Indian oil depot, deliberately sparing civilian lives,” he noted, adding that Pakistan’s victory has quadrupled the nation's enthusiasm for Independence Day celebrations.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s support for peace, Naqvi again referenced the country’s role in brokering the Iran-Israel ceasefire, highlighting the involvement of Pakistan’s armed forces.
Talal Chaudhry praised the contributions of religious scholars in fostering unity and encouraged them to continue supporting the fight against terrorism. He underscored the bravery of Pakistan’s security forces and stressed the importance of remaining united against sectarianism and external threats.
NDMA warns of widespread rains, flash floods starting Sunday
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad also commended Pakistan's role in promoting peace and tolerance. Citing Operation Bunyān al-Marsūs, he said Pakistan had responded strongly to Indian aggression based on false accusations. He praised the military and government for their leadership, adding that success is granted by Allah.
Azad also acknowledged Iran’s robust stance against Israel, calling Pakistan’s role in the Iran-Israel conflict both “honorable and significant.” He concluded by assuring that Muharram-related activities were proceeding peacefully, urging people to adhere to their own beliefs without inciting division or conflict.
Separately, Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the Iran nuclear issue through peaceful means, stressing the importance of diplomatic engagement and sustained dialogue as the only viable path to lasting peace.
