Looks not out to me, but the soft signal was out. Steve Smith admitted himself after the match that he wasn't batting well anyway so it was probably better that he was out.
 
It did look like it hit the ground but as soon as they went to various angles, and delayed the decision for so long, it was only going one way because of the soft signal.

Shame really, I think it changed the whole game.
 
If Khawaja's catch of Broad in the test series was out then so was this 100%
 
Regardless of the original decision, you could see the ball touch the grass.. don't know why that was given out :/.
