Extra time.

Denmark look out on their feet - England won't get a better chance to reach a final.

Generous penalty, but England will take that.

England have been the better side - 15 minutes to go.

VAR checked that, and still gave a penalty??

Sorry I forgot, the match is played in England

Don't worry they will play defensively but Sterling will dive .such a sore loser

Better side won tonight.

Seen the incident a few times now and that wasn't a penalty, but you need a bit of luck.

Italy in the final.

Denmark stopped playing after 50 mins or so and their only contributions were fouls..deserved to go out.

Denmark were exhausted. The long Baku trip may have taken its toll. Curious subs by the Denmark manager taking off all his key players. Penalty was very soft as was the decision to award a free kick for Denmark's first goal. Referee was useless.

not a penalty, but the foul on kane was a penalty, some decisons go your way some dont, england got both today.

Excellent stuff throughout the tournament from England who fully deserve to be in the Final.

A huge test awaits with Italy, but there are such brilliant memories that have been formed already for England fans and for the nation as a whole. Let’s see what happens in that Final.

They’ve cried for decades about Maradona and now they’re okay with blatant cheating

Lol England won their only world cup cause of poor officiating - the ball hadn't even crossed the line.

Denmark lost the game when the clown of a manger made massive substitutions in one go and changed the whole setup and balance of the team , he took all the attacking players off , and Denmark lost any pace or ability to hit on the counter before those subs they looked really dangerous.
Mind bobbling tactics

That yussef Poulson is an absolute oil tanker cant even move had a shocker all the players he bought on were worse and lacked any pace

Congrats England. Well played. A gripping final awaits.
Party time in England i believe, not that they need any excuse :)

England cast aside the "suffering" of their World Cup defeat in 2018 to book a place in Sunday's Euro 2020 final, said manager Gareth Southgate.

The Three Lions lost to Croatia after extra time in the semi-finals of the World Cup three years ago.

But they came from behind to beat Denmark 2-1 on Wednesday, meaning they will be in a men's major tournament final for the first time in 55 years.

"We've managed to put that right," Southgate told ITV.

"I'm so proud of the players. It's an incredible occasion to be a part of. We knew it wouldn't be straightforward.

"When you've waited as long as we have to get through a semi-final, the players - considering the limited international experience some of them have - have done an incredible job."

An own goal from Denmark captain Simon Kjaer cancelled out Mikkel Damsgaard's opener, before Harry Kane grabbed victory for England in extra time by slotting home the rebound after his penalty was saved.

England will face Italy in the final, which will be played at Wembley in front of about 60,000 fans on Sunday.

"The most pleasing thing is we've given the fans and nation a fantastic night and the journey carries on for another four days," said Southgate.

"We've got to enjoy the fact we're in the final but there's one more massive hurdle to conquer."

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, he said Italy were a "fantastic team".

"We know the size of the task, we know they have those two warriors at the back who have seen all this before," he said.

"But what a brilliant moment for us. Let's savour tonight then we can think about that on the coach back."

How England's victory unfolded on social media

Forward Raheem Sterling praised England's response to conceding their first goal in the tournament.

"It was a top performance," said Sterling, who won the penalty which Kane converted at the second attempt, after Kasper Schmeichel saved his initial effort.

"We had to dig in deep. We responded well and showed good spirit. We knew it would be difficult.

"We stayed patient and we knew with the legs and aggressiveness we have in the team we'd be OK. It's another step in the right direction."

Skipper Kane added: "We got there when it mattered. We reacted really well and we're in a final at home. What a feeling.

"We know it's going to be a very tough game against Italy. We've had a great tournament so far. One more game to go at home."

Can't believe a team like England have done so well.

Let's see if they can win the final.

Let's see if they can win the final.

Relatively easy draw, last 2 matches on home soil and a bunch of talented young players.

Though I think it'll come to an end on Sunday. The Italians have a more rounded team and their midfield will over-run England's. In fact if England want to see a fair amount of the ball they'll need to sacrifice a forward playerand bring in Henderson.

Italy in the final.

In the year 2021 with VAR, I wouldn't class something like that luck. Corruption/cheating are more suitable words.

England goalkeeper is too too clumsy!

England have never really had keepers that are top quality. Nowhere near the level of Italian and German keepers over the years. Right now Pickford wouldn't even get a look at a top team, all the top keerps in the EPL are foreigners.

Pretty mental, never thought I’d see England in a final during my life time after all the past tournaments, win or lose this bunch are a breath of fresh air and have created memories we will never forget here!

This is one of the most talented and skilled squads England has ever had. A top manager can do wonders with players like Kane, Grealish, Foden, Sancho, Sterling, Saka etc.

Southgate is simply not good enough. He is not a top-level manager and the players have to take ownership on the pitch and produce moments of magic if England are to go all the way.

They are not going to get anything from Southgate. He is clueless about his tactics, playing style, team selection etc.

They have got everything from Southgate so far and reached the finals. They have played the safe style he prefers and have succeeded. The respect the players are showing Southgate is simply amazing and when you have this mutual respect you can reach very far.

I didn't like the latter part of second extra half yesterday, but the players lisnted to the manager and you can sort of understand the tactics, when they are getting this opportunity after 55 years.

I agree, it's not luck. You cannot have luck with technology. It was blatant cheating or incompetence from the referee.

Petition being filed in parliament for monday 12 july national holiday. This is taking the hype to new level :))

That's nothing, if England win, then the players will be heading to Buckingham Palace to be knighted.

Boris Johnson has refused to rule out the prospect of an emergency bank holiday should England win Euro 2020 on Sunday.

The transformation the England football team has underwent has been extraordinary. There was a time when nobody apart from louts supported them, the players were louts themselves and the managers moany whiners.

The Southgate era has been transformational, although not solely down to the Gareth he does play a big part. We have players that are in-tune with modern England, don't exhibit the same primma-dona attitude and seem like genuinely nice blokes.

First the first time the whole of England is behind them ( and dare I say Scotland and Wales aren't as anti-england as before).

Just need to make sure Lee Dixon stops commentating by the team Qatar comes around and I reckon everyone in the UK will be supporting England!

And to the argument that Southgate isn't a key component of England's success because the squad is stacked with talent should take a look at the England squad from 2002-2006 which arguably had a stronger starter eleven but failed to even get to the Semi Final. Southgate is pragmatic which is what wins tournaments. How many really expansive free flowing football teams actually go on to win tournaments bar Brazil.

Absolutely. The guy has withstood considerable pressure and a barrage of abuse by failed international players on TV after the Scotland game.

He was slated for minimising Grealish playing time, also slated for not featuring Sancho more but he has stuck to his guns. The heroci Liverpool captain who had a major part in champions league and league wins has also been a bit part player.

Southgate deserves a hell of a lot of praise. If he wins this he will be knighted and a footballing icon.

Am a big Grealish fan and I admit I was against Southgate to but after the Germany win, I started to believe in this bloke, he wont be everyone’s cup of tea but has a high footballing IQ and has an excellent awareness of the opponents strengths and weaknesses / and looking into ways to exploit that based on his resources, it may not feel nice for the players at time but he has their faith and you sense a good team spirit

Southgate deserves credit for bring the nation together, he is a good man manager and since a long time, players in the team are united and dont throw a fuss about if not selected, this no doubt his doing so he deserves the credit,

However hes still a poor manager with some odd selections, he removed Foden to protect his yellow card, only to never start him again.
Him not starting Grealish is fine, but he took his chances and shown hes englands most dangerous player when ever he comes on, with chances created, but he still doesnt start him.
Him not starting Sancho is again odd, especially putting him below saka, is criminal.

I understand he is a conservative manager and doesnt like to take risks, but any decent manager will include Grealish and sancho in the team, also he was forced to pick Shaw, otherwise if it was up to him he would have continued with Tripper.

However in terms of man managment he is superb,

Had England lost to Denmark, the Southgate apologists would want him crucified for taking off Grealish.

Southgate is simply riding on the coat-tails of a young squad that has nothing to lose, and when you got nothing to lose, you are fearless.

He has the personality of a goldfish, the tactical nuance of a rock.

Its the other round actually, he has the personality but not the tactical nuance.

However at the beginning of the tournament, all pundits gave a target of semi-final, will they be happy if they lose the final?

Runner up is the first loser of a competetion.

Better to lose in the first round than the final.

You are 100% right.

Southgate has been brilliant in this tournament and deserves recognition for his performance. He has surpassed expectations and answered his critics.

If England would have crashed out early, he would have been scapegoated and blamed. However, now that England have done extremely well, he should therefore be lauded.

Thousands of schoolchildren will be allowed to arrive later on Monday so they can watch the Euro 2020 final.

Ahead of an anticipated late night on Sunday, some schools will allow pupils more time in bed to recover.

Caroline Reed, headteacher of Rossmere Primary School in Hartlepool, did not want worries about an early start to dampen their enjoyment of the game.

The school also said it noticed more absences than normal after England's extra-time win against Denmark.

Gareth Southgate has made an appeal to England's wartime spirit ahead of their Euro 2020 final, urging supporters to be proud of its achievements both on and off the pitch.

The England manager said the nation has "so much to be proud of" and urged fans to stop "looking at the negatives of our own country".

Speaking on Friday, he stressed the wider significance of Sunday's historic showdown against Italy, with the Three Lions uniting the country as it emerges from the coronavirus pandemic, encouraging diversity and taking a stand against racism.

"I think these are historic things that we can be proud of," he told The Daily Telegraph.

"It's a wonderful privilege to be able to make a difference."

Southgate, 50, claimed he believed the 'Blitz spirit' was partially behind England's win against Germany earlier on in the tournament.

"People have tried to invade us and we've had the courage to hold that back," he told the paper.

"You can't hide that energy in the stadium against Germany was because of that. I never mentioned that to the players, but I know that's part of what the story was."

He said that England has a habit of underestimating itself, but urged supporters to look to its position on the world stage as well as its footballing abilities.

"We have got so much to be proud of," he said.

"For an island our size, we've got an incredible influence on the world and we've got to keep that in a positive way."

While politicians have condemned the England squad from 'taking the knee' to show their anti-racist stance, Southgate has encouraged them to do so during his leadership.

He said he was heartened by people of all backgrounds approaching him after the World Cup in Russia in 2018 to say they finally felt included by football culture.

"That inclusivity is really important for us because I think that is what modern England is."

He praised the likes of Marcus Rashford, who was awarded an MBE for his work tackling child poverty in the pandemic, and Raheem Sterling, who has spoken out about his experiences of racism.

Describing them as "exceptional examples of players setting a really good example for young kids", he added: "It's important that their parents, when they are talking to those kids, can say: 'We are quite happy for you to be a Raheem [Sterling], a Marcus [Rashford], a Kalvin Phillips, or whoever they might be because they stand for the right things off the pitch as well as on it'."

England will have 60,000 fans cheering them on at Wembley on Sunday.

Although a Bank Holiday on Monday has been ruled out by politicians, the prime minister has urged employers and schools to be flexible that day to ensure both adults and children can enjoy the game.

Supermarkets are expected to close early, with pubs and bars fully booked up and down the country - despite the recent rise in COVID-19 cases.

He has to be doing something right to reach a final ya pillock, that to our first ever in the Euro’s and first in a major tournie since 66!

England have the weight of history against them and that's the reason I fancy Italy. I hope they go and play with the immense attacking talent they have but alas they will freeze under pressure. You need someone thick to ignore history and play and Grealish is the man( and he is proper thick) but he won't start.

The Queen has recalled presenting the World Cup trophy in 1966 as she sent her "good wishes" to the England team ahead of the Euro 2020 final.

She said she hoped that history would record the team's success but also "the spirit, commitment and pride with which you have conducted yourselves".

The monarch said she had seen what it meant to the players to win a major tournament 55 years ago.

Gareth Southgate's team play Italy at Wembley on Sunday.

Her message reads: "Fifty-five years ago I was fortunate to present the World Cup to Bobby Moore and saw what it meant to the players, management and support staff to reach and win the final of a major international football tournament.

"I want to send my congratulations and that of my family to you all on reaching the final of the European Championships, and send my good wishes for tomorrow with the hope that history will record not only your success but also the spirit, commitment and pride with which you have conducted yourselves."

Speaking at a news conference on Saturday evening, Southgate said: "It has been fantastic to have the letter from the Queen and the Prime Minister to all of the team - and the recognition the players have gone about this in the right way.

"But we're in a final and we're here to win. Now we want to go and bring the trophy home."

The Queen's grandson, the Duke of Cambridge, is a football fan and, as president of the Football Association, has attended some of England's matches at Wembley.

His son Prince George and wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, joined him for the round-of-16 match against Germany.

The Queen is not the only person wishing the England team well, with captain Harry Kane revealing that actor Tom Cruise had called the squad.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "We actually had Tom Cruise get in touch yesterday evening. You get everyone who loves football."

Kane added: "We were fortunate enough to have a watch of one of his films, so I think he was over here in the UK and he just dialled in and Facetimed us just to wish us the best as a group. So that was nice of him.

"I'm not sure if he will be there at the final or not, but football is such a big part of the world and it's nice to have that support."

I was confident from get go, and I don’t think many had England in the final at the beginning of the tournament. A great journey. On to the Tokyo Olympics!

I think England can be proud of their efforts, but they won't get a better chance than this to win a tournament - nearly all their matches at home whilst other teams had to travel around Europe.

They should be proud of themselves, they made the nation support them again and no one expected them to come here to the final.

With a WC around the corner, they will get another opportunity, however with such attacking talent, they will need a attacking manager, pep would have loved to coach this team, Gareth did the best he could but he is way to conservative to manage this team with so much potential in attack.

Defensive approach did hurt England. They are a far better team than Italy, had they tried to play attacking football after the early goal they could have killed the game. Instead they let Italy back in the game and in the end Italy could have wont before the penalties.

Feel for Saka and co. To let an19 years old with only a few caps take penalty was not a good decision.

Tough night but a very young team, should learn and get better. Need better in-game management

Even Bangladesh have done better in cricket.

England only have themselves to blame:

Defensive approach
Rigid tactics
Poor substitutions

Southgate was outdone by Mancini.

I feel bad, was a dream to get to the final itself and the boys should be proud with a WC next year, but southgate has got undone for the same reason he got undone at the WC, get an early goal, park the bus and invite pressure. One wonders if he will learn before the next WC.

He brought Rashford on at right back.

He brought Henderson on and then took him off.

He brought Grealish on after 99 minutes.

The team was defending deeper and deeper

The tactics were negative and he left the team as sitting ducks for Italy to launch attack after attack.

Barely played Sancho in the tournament. Kept on playing Saka even though Sancho is like 10 times the player Saka is. Sancho would slot into any other team in the world and yet couldn't get into the England team. Rice and Philipps, two defensive midfielders who are more likely to go back than pressing forward. A lot of things have to change before the next tournament. I don't think this team can defeat the likes of Argentina, France, Portugal, Brazil or even Colombia.

https://www.news18.com/cricketnext/news/england-vs-pakistan-2021-england-footballers-are-absolute-legends-says-ben-stokes-3955973.html

England captain Ben Stokes has sympathised with football counterparts, saying that Three Lions are already legends and their best years maybe ahead of them. England lost the Euro Final as they were beaten by Italy in a penalty shootout. The finishing of the game was painful for England fans who went on a rampage after the game, hitting Italian fans within the stadium premises.

“They’ll be absolutely devastated, no doubt," Stokes said. “But what they’ve managed to achieve is incredible. The nation has been completely captured by what they’ve done on the field."

“Obviously everyone in the nation would have loved to see England win, but just watching the games you feel a real connection to the team. The way Gareth Southgate has led, the way Gareth Southgate speaks… I think he’s been phenomenal in everything he’s done."

He added that he is proud of the players and knows how it feels playing an international sport himself.
“Us as a national team, albeit in a different sport, we’re just incredibly proud of what they managed to do."

“It’s such a young team full of talent that the sky is the limit for them. There’s so many more years ahead, so many more tournaments to go and prove themselves in. But in my eyes and everybody else’s eyes in this changing room, they are absolute legends already."

World Cup winners England, who have revealed their bench-strength by taking an unassailable 2-0 lead with a second-string side, will look to seal the three-ODI series against Pakistan here on Tuesday. The English team, comprising some fringe players and discards, that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) gathered after three players and four members of support staff of the original squad had tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the series, has surprised many with a clinical performance against Pakistan.

you came blame his him putting rashford at right back - he was put on for 1 reason - to take a peno.

grealish came on for mount as mount was too tired , you couldnt have brought him on around 70mins, as italy were dominating the game.

Italy made the defend deeper and deeper, if you watch from 70mins you see the Italian defense was high up the pitch.

I do agree that he didnt have positive subs - but italy controlled all the second half and extra time - italians typically played better mentality and showed it. After Half time - England bottled it

petro - i have doubts that saka can come back, dont believe he can recover, i also have my doubts about sancho - for some reason time doesnt heel when you miss from semi/ final spot kiss miss

England are up to third in Fifa's men's world rankings, equalling their highest ever position.

Following their defeat by Italy in the Euro 2020 final in July, England beat Hungary and Andorra 4-0 in World Cup qualifying earlier this month before drawing with Poland.

Gareth Southgate's men move above world champions France, who drop to fourth after two draws and a win.

The last time England were ranked third was in September 2012.

Belgium remain in top spot, while Brazil are second.

Wales stay in 19th after a victory against Belarus sandwiched between draws against Finland and Estonia.

Scotland, who lost in Denmark before beating Moldova and Austria, rise four places to 45th.

Northern Ireland are also up four spots, wins over Lithuania and Estonia and a draw with Switzerland lifting them to 47th.

The Republic of Ireland have fallen from 47th to 50th after defeat by Portugal and draws with Azerbaijan and Serbia.
