‘Language of Women…’: Ex-Cricketer Yograj Singh Mocks Hindi Speaking People, Sparks Outrage

Former cricketer Yograj Singh has stoked a massive controversy with his remarks on Hindi-speaking people saying that the language seems “unmanly" and “lacks energy".

In an interview with Samdish Bhatia on Unfiltered, the father of legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, said, “When men speak Hindi, it feels like, ‘Kaun bol raha hai, kaisa aadmi hai.’ (who is speaking, what type of a man is he?)"

He further mimicked Hindi-speaking people from UP and Bihar, contrasting it with Punjabi, which he called a “manly" language.

During the interview, Yograj, known for his outspoken nature, made a controversial comment about women in positions of power, and said, “Wife will destroy your house if you give her power. Sorry to say, Indira Gandhi ran this country and destroyed it. Give them respect and love, but never give them power."

Yograj further made a shocking claim by saying that he wanted to kill Kapil Dev after the captain of India’s 1983 ODI World Cup-winning team dropped him from the national side.

If it were the same, indian films wouldnt had been using the word janaab for pakistani character

I see.

I can't speak either. But, I understand a few words here and there.

Anyway, I used to play club cricket and my team had both Pakistani and Indian players. They used to talk to each other which seemed like Urdu and Hindi. That's why I thought Hindi and Urdu were similar.

Hindi and Urdu are same. Urdu originated in the army camps of Delhi Sultanate and later on got patronage from Mughals.

The foot soldiers of Delhi Sultanate and Mughals could not understand Persian and Arabic as most of the soldiers were local Indians speaking Apabhramsa a dialect of Prakrit. So to make the communication easier between the Turkic generals and local foot soldiers, they had to come up with a language which is a mix of Prakrit sprinkled with Arabic and Persian words. That is how Urdu was born. Funnily, the Turkic invaders preferred Persian and Arabic over their own Mother tongue(Oghuz or Kipchak).

Hindi is basically Prakrit spoken by Hindus. The ones that converted to Islam in North India continued to use Urdu as a form of distinct identity. Of course the advent of Bollywood and their woke penchant for Islamic culture enabled Urdu to survive in India. Most people in India use words like Darwaza, Kaabil, Mushkil, Izzat, Eemandaari etc and think that it is Hindi/Prakrit. Bollywood blurred the lines so much that people do not know what exactly they are speaking. Every Perso.Arabic word that is used in Hindi has a Prakrit/Sanskrit equivalent. But its a shame that only a minority of Hindi speakers use those words. If you go to any major city, most people speak a mix of Hindi and Urdu. Confused bunch.

Its easy to understand each other but there are many words in Hindi, which are never used in Urdu.

Urdu sounds far better off the tongue, it comes across soft and clear. I try not to listen to Hindi.

There are hundreds of words with an Arabic background in Hindi. So when the bald headed yogi Hindutva extremists talk in Hindi, they often use words given to them by their so called invaders, this is how stupid these people are.

Why do you @Major want to do that bro? Yograj Singh is mentally unstable person.

Yes

What is the problem however with a language sounding feminine? Feminine here means it sounds a softer / non aggressive language.

Imo Urdu sounds far softer and more pleasant on the ear. Hindi sounds as if their top jaw is locked and bounces off the bottom.

Any chance you can say a few sentences and post an audio on here. We will judge. :sachin

Why is this Yogiraj Singh getting so much exposure all of a sudden? Who is promoting him and for what reason?
He has been going all over the place with his opinions on cricket, and now talks about Hindi. Wonder what's coming next? His political views?

As for languages, I find both Hindi and Urdu beautiful in their own ways. Neither of them can be associated with any gender, in my opinion. But I find Punjabi very noisy, boisterous and totally lacking sophistication. It seems like a typically working class language, like Dutch or Flemish. And if my Punjabi friends are to be believed, it also has many 'suggestive' ways of expressing things.

Usually a very slow news day when Yograj is discussed. Even more slower news day when his statements are analyzed in isolation. Things must be looking up (y)

He provides lots of masala for 24 hour news outlets. Something to discuss his nonsensical ramblings.

I've heard Karachites using some eye opening language, and I don't think it is any less 'suggestive' to be honest. Just it is delivered more elegantly so doesn't come across so aggressive.

I love Urdu. It’s a romantic / philosophical sounding language and no wonder there’s such beautiful shayari related to this language. Urdu is the language of our region and both our nations have a claim on its legacy and I am glad at least Pakistan can carry it further even though I have heard Urdu faces competition from Arabic in Pakistan? How true is that? Nevertheless love the language.

Hindi is an incredibly rich language. The beauty of Hindi lies in how deep you can go into story telling with it and it no doubt carries the legacy of subcontinental intellect that goes back millenniums.

The fact that you can give a hard hitting, goosebumps raising, soul penetrating speech in Hindu without raising your voice is something a villager like Yograj Singh cannot comprehend. Someone who thinks you sound aggressive only when you raise your voice.

I am a proud Punjabi. I speak Punjabi whenever i can. When i meet Punjabi Pakistanis this is how we roll. It sounds amazing, it’s a great language and has a rich history. But I wouldn’t make stupid sounding comments about it.

Anyone interested in listening to some good Hindu in a real life context can probably start with Atal Bihari Vajpayee speeches in parliament.

You are South Indian right? What is your native language?

I think Punjabi has got a bad reputation from unruly Singh's and some gangster type people. Otherwise it's a beautiful and poetic language.

Lol

To be honest I don't disagree with Yograj Uncle. When speaking with the brothers and men in general I tend to switch to Punjabi
Yograj uncle said urdu is a more manly compared to hindi. He said this in the fuller version. So we good. :sachin

I don’t know if there’s a word for it but i love ‘hearing’ foreign languages. Many times i watch a foreign language film in its original language with subtitles on. I may lag behind in catching intricate details but it just sounds more natural and just sounds good to my ears.

The only thing i cannot stand is British English accent. Kill me.

Lol man....I speak proper Hindi being born and raised in Bihar. Even with my wife, I speak in Hindi...though we are both bengalis. Only speak Bangla with my parents.
So you talk a feminine language according to Yograj

I never knew you were from Indian Occupied Bengal.

One cannot even give a proper warning in Urdu bro.

Urdu - "Barkhurdar, aap bahat bora salokh kar rahe ho. Tumhe saqt saza di jaye gi."
Hindi - "Beta, tum bahut bura bartaav kar rahe ho. Tere pichwade laal kar doonga".

Now be serious, will anyone be scared when someone says that to a kid in urdu? It looks like your chahaji warning when steal a candy from the jar. :cobra

Yograj should spend some time with 'Bhidu' Jackie Shroff. :inti

That's not the Hindi version. This one is:

Balak, tum bahut anuchit acharan kar rahe ho. Tumhe kathor dand diya jayega. :inti

Now tell me, which one looks threatening? :inti

I am not talking about Sanskrit infused Hindi. I am talking about regular Prakrit that normal Hindi speakers use.

The Balak stuff you are saying is for Brahmins and stuff in Puranas. No one uses it.

This 'pichwada' type language is used in Bihar and UP. :inti

Poor Yuvraj. Must be tired of his dad. Can't even disown him.

I must say that from whatever I saw of him during his playing days, he seemed like a good cricketer. More pacier than the likes of Madanlal and Roger Binny. Yograj could also hit the long ball. He id hard done by selectors. May be he was dropped for his behavioral issues. Who knows.

Hindi is a beautiful language like all Indian languages, only the imposition sucks.

On Yograj , he is like any Panjabi person that loves ridiculing other cultures.

urdu is like a delicate rose, full of intrigue and delicacy, Punjabi is a war axe. what hes saying isnt wrong, he just said it in an amusing way. fwiw i speak way better and way more urdu, but its definitely a language of high culture, formality and emotion, whereas punjabi is a language of gusto, force and humour.

Bengali kicks both Hindi and urdu in the bankside in terms of sounding sweet
disagree, to a non bengla speaker the replacement of the schwa sound to a flat short 'O' sounds very odd, it sounds like bangla speakers are dropping random small 'O's in all their words. of all the languages i dont speak the best sounding are latin American Spanish by far, then Arabic and persian.

I read that in the Hindi tone that Yograj showed us :yk

According to Yogaraj chachu, sun rises in the west. But that is not correct.

Modi ji speaks in Hindi and there is literally no bigger alpha male leader from Asia.
omg i did not realize, Yograj called modi feminine guy. Thanks for mentioning this

Not sure if you watched Mughal e azam, but if that is how Babar or Akbar spoke, they will be laughed at. Pretty sure they spoke a mix of Persian and Turkic.
Urdu was for the Indian soldiers in Mughal army.😂

LOL just watched the video posted in OP. What an embarrassment. :ROFLMAO:

Feel for Yuvi.

Some Hindus also have Singh as a name. I maybe wrong
People from Rajput/ Kshatriya Hindu community have Singh in there surname too eg: Mahendra “Singh” Dhoni, Sushant “Singh” Rajput etc. I believe most soldier/ warrior Community/caste have “Singh” in North / Central India. Sikhs also see themselves as a martial community so hence “Singh”.

To me, best languages are Arabic and English.

I also like the sound of Russian language. It sounds badass when Vladimir Putin speaks it.

Urdu is a beautiful language with OG Hindustani accent. I have heard it from Pakistanis too, they make it sound ugly and unworthy of being assigned either gender.

Same goes for Hindi. Bihar and Konkan has just butchered the neutral, calm accent. The way I and people around me speak it though is simply beautiful.

Why is @KingKhanWC chacha is asking every Bharatiya poster to speak in Urdu? What kind of fetish is this now?

:uakmal

The chachas were the ones who have shaped Hindi with Arabic/Islamic words. How does it feel to use the language they helped build when you consider those chachas as invaders?

It's definitely a rude language. Makes sound rude and the women speak suggestively

The only real warriors in South Asia are the Afghans and the Gorkhas. They have never been colonized.
The Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi Singhs, Khans and other wannabe 'warriors' are all hot air fakes who'll surrender at the first opportunity.
