[VIDEO] Hilarious advert featuring Hardik Pandya, Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Seems to have aimed for a Bihari/Bhojpuri twang with this one.

Sony has all the SENA rights though, Star have the rest, including the World Cup and IPL.

Nothing offensive in it?

NZ is with Star. You are right about the rest.

I don't think this is aimed at any specific region. The purpose of the AD is being hilarious and something that would stick in people's mind.

Pandya is surprisingly good in this ad. Does better than Dhoni in this Bihari accent ad. People will love this ad.

Lemme know what part I had to find 'hilarious'

Dhoni has no shame left. Everyone is toiling hard in Ranji trophy with an aspiration to get selected for national side and this dude has nothing to do with domestic cricket, doing ads, attending bollywood marriages but would walk away straight into the team ahead of any youngster. He is treating Indian cricket team as his personal property. Lost all respect for this pretendor. Hope Pandya stays away from his influence.

May be you forgot Hardik Pandya was also in this ad. Dhoni is not a pretender, Pandya is. :inti

Oh really? Wow...just noticed bruv!!

Thing is, Pandya got injured in Asia cup, recovered, played few domestic matches and got back into the team.

Dhoni has ample free time but he never plays a single game for Jharkhand. His batting is struggling big time, so he need to play as many games as possible before WC. Even Gavaskar wants Dhoni to play domestic cricket to regain form.

10 years ago he dropped Ganguly and Dravid citing poor form. His exact words were "We are here for national duty and our job is to win matches for India". Fine. But he never applied the same logic for himself. He is in much poorer form than what Dravid/Ganguly was in 2008 but he forgot the rule he set 10 years ago. Hence he is the biggest pretender in Indian cricket.

All Indian cricketers are good in acting. Our cricketers are very poor in acting. Number one poor actor is Afridi.

Can someone’s post a gist what they are saying, please?

Background of the ad:
As you can see the ad is about star tv network pack for dish networks.
There is a regulation enforcement from TRAI (Indian Telecom regulator) to the cable operators and all dish networks.

In the ad:
Hardik and Dhoni are two village residents who want to watch the match but it seems they cannot afford to watch the match on tv. Hence they resort to remote watching of the match.

Hardik: wonders why they have to watch the match when it is on tv
Dhoni : have to take an add-on package
Hardik : stumbles upon the bill board having the dish tv package for subscribers in India, enlightens dhoni about it.
Dhoni: stunned at the cost-effective, all-inclusive package price.

Ends with the voice-over asking subscribers to go for it.

Didn't understand a word! :S

But based on comments it suggest Hardick acted good. I say every Indian is a good actor because of the bollywood culture.

Pandya is from Gujarat and does a better Bihari accent than Dhoni who's himself from Bihar.

His acting was as good as someone who does it for a living.

New Zealand is also with Star.

It's so bad I wonder what the Global HQ of Pepsi would make of that if they ever happen to watch this lol :broad

Which part of this ad i have to laugh at? Pathetic attempt at insulting Bihari people. The whole nations considers them rikshawpullers and nothing more. That Cricketers will also join in this act, i never imagined. Shameful.

Credit to Pandya though for terrific acting. He looked a proper bhaiya.

AT least Dhoni can't be thought of insulting Biharis. He was brought up in then Bihar that later split into Bihar and Jharkhand.

I wonder what Stars ad for the India Pakistan WC game would be? I hope they come up with something different and creative (which they normally are). The mauka mauka ads were excellent, but have run its course.

What part of this AD is supposed to be funny? I m totally lost here

Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili- all these are dialects of Hindi spoken in eastern parts, just like Avadhi, Chattisgarhi etc are dialects of Hindi spoken elsewhere.

If someone living in Punjab speaks Hindi with Punjabi accent then it remains Hindi. It does not become Punjabi. Likewise, the language spoken in this ad is Hindi, as it is spoken in those parts with local pronounciation and mannerisms. People speaking this way consider it as speaking in Hindi.

Not really. A punjabi speaking Hindi with a Punjabi accent is still speaking Hindi. That persons Hindi is dictated by his or her mother language, which is Punjabi in this case. So, its a different accent. A Punjabi speaker will use mainly Hindi words with a few punjabi words thrown in.

In the case of Bhojpuri (and Maithili), there are enough differences between them and Hindi to be classified as another language. In bhojpuri, there are words significantly different than Hindi, that a khari boli speaker will not be able to identify. Also, Bhojpuri and Maithili have their own literature. Punjabis in Hindi just read Hindi literature.

So, Punjabi Hindi is juts an accent, but bhojpuri is a different language.
