PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja has said that the board could "collapse" if the Indian government wanted.

Briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination on Thursday, he said that the PCB receives 50pc of its funding from the ICC.

"Ninety per cent of ICC's funding comes from Indian markets," he said. The PCB chairman said that in a way, Indian business houses were keeping Pakistan cricket going.

The whole country is being run on Bikhari so no wonder if the PCB chairman thinks in the same way. I think he is going the same way Imran Twitter Khan has gone by obsessing with India. Is Pakistan capable of doing anything by itself?

Oh boy is this going to hurt some fragile egos or what? :91:

Extremely brave on Ramiz's part though.

The BCCI practically runs all the boards. Had India not toured Australia, CA would have had to declare bankruptcy. This is not just a Pakistani thing.

So then if everybody knows this truth then why do people on this forum mind so much if India gets a with a separate window for the IPL? After all they are propping up cricket as a sport everywhere in the world.

So if PCB was more powerful , he will do - Hum to dube hai sanam, tujhe bhi lekar dubenge kind of thing ?

Perhaps RR also forgot to add - Indians also make 90% of the Youtube earnings the Pakistani ex-cricketers make 😂

Seriously brave of him to admit this. Hopefully doesnt run into trouble over this.

Lol Ramiz has been running to all big Pakistani Businessmen recently. I heard SMQ approached Shahid Khan in the US. Apparently some reporters are saying Ramiz has also met Chinese Businessmen. He clearly sees the PCB needs to diversify and not put all its eggs in one basket.

The IPL window is now going to be 3.5 months. That means 3.5 months where other countries bilateral series will be screwed. Look at what NZ and England did to Pakistan, the players definately influenced their boards to let them play in the IPL over the billateral arrangements. Unless other countries make peace with having B or C teams playing while the top level players play in the IPL.

Tbf, The PCB has made major losses in the last 11 years as well.

The India v Pakistan cash cow has not been available to Pakistan. Nor has the board received any funding from the sales of any of its players in the IPL. The PCB has just been sustaining itself the way boards like Ireland and Zimbabwe have been doing.

In these circumstances, the PCB has done very well. It is still Number 4 on the ICC revenue table. All other countries would have collapsed in the absence of a domestic series against India or the IPL commission. Had India not toured Australia last year, CA would have had to declare bankruptcy.

In the last 11 years, The PCB has missed out on at least 3 home series v India

It has missed out in receiving a reasonable commission on the following players who most certainly would have been part of the IPL:

1. Shahid Afridi
2. Shoaib Akhtar
3. Umar Gul
4. Pre Ban Ajmal
5. Mohammad Hafeez
6. Shoaib Malik
7. Mohammad Amir
8. Umar Akmal
9. Kamran Akmal
10. Wahab Riaz
11. Babar Azam
12. Imad Wasim
13. Shaheen Afridi
14. Mohammad Rizwan
15. Pre Ban Sharjeel Khan
16. Mohammad Irfan
17. Fakhar Zaman
18. Hassan Ali
19. Sohail Tanvir
20. Shadab Khan

Just to name some. Can anyone estimate the realistic loss PCB has suffered in the last decade due to not playing BCCI?

In comparison, look at how the PCB has still managed to sustain itself respectfully and with a worldwide fan following even though boards like South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and New Zealand continuously benefitted from hosting India at home and regularly receiving commissions from IPL sales.

Ramiz Raja isn’t providing the full context to the business companies that he wants to convince by using emotional grounds.

Ramiz is correct but he is also saying that Pak cricket needs to get its finances in order so we don’t collapse if the Indian revenue stream disappears. This is actually forward thinking.

Rambo bhai is giving the Indians some malicious ideas here:ashwin

On a serious note I am surprised at the fire in Rambos belly and the way he seems to want to fight for Pakistan cricket. I honestly thought he would be a laid back character and look to get the begging bowl out. Instead he has went on an all out attack and tried to maybe develop a bit of a siege mentality. While that is a successful tactic for some football managers the jury is still out as to whether it can be successful for a board chairman.

This may get us nowhere but from a purely visual perspective it is better than the old style chairmen who bent over backwards but got nothing anyway.

Shouldn't this be a question for the other cricketing nations even the big 2 ie is it right for just one country to have a monopoly over others. What is preventing ECB and CA bringing in more money to the ICC given the trillion dollar economies they come from?

It is not the cricket boards who are bringing the money in, it is the sports channels.

Great motivation for Pakistan players to lift their game and win another T20 WC.
I am bit worried about match vs India.

You just can't say these kind of statements in public even if you know its true especially when you representing Pakistan cricket.

You just can't say these kind of statements in public even if you know its true especially when you representing Pakistan cricket.

Yes you can if you are secretly trying to re-engage on a cordial basis with BCCI.

Keep saying the right things that will please India and BCCI

I think Ramiz's heart/mind is in the right place in that he wants to make PCB self sufficient. Maybe this is his way of shaming some of the people into doing something about it. I dont see anything wrong with it and it is not one for Ind fans to chest thump either.

I definitely see India-Pak series resuming under Rameez. All it needs is for high profile/senior Pak policians and millitary leaders to reduce the temperature by toning down any inflammatory rhetoric over 1-2 year period.

well there you have it folks.. :hasan2

Mamoon Ramiz is speaking facts here but should he be speaking in public about such things? what is your opinion?

Its true that Indian Companies fund ICC tournaments, but to say that its right of BCCI to have more funds from that pool is illogical. ICC tournament is sponsored because all teams participate in it. Its not just about India. Companies who sponsor those tournaments are not doing it out of their national duty. They are marketing themselves in return. All teams should have equal rights to have money from that pool , its called tournament because all teams participate in it

Rameez should be sacked immediately. Dont think truth and facts are not well tolerated in our neighboring country.

He should have stuck to the routine: "Give us XXX or else YYY"
YYY =
- strengthen the hands of extremists
- weaken democracy
- increases the risk of a nuclear war
- radicalize youth
- not good for world cricket
- does not win hearts and minds
- shows small heart
- any threat you can think of

England & Australia are more interested in test cricket than ICC events. Ashes is much bigger in either country. even Border Gavaskar trophy was pretty big this summer in Australia

Harsha Bhogle once said this on an Australian tv show during 2015 World Cup that newspapers have hardly any coverage of World Cup. Same thing happened in England during 2019 World Cup

Problem with Pakistan is test cricket generates less interest in domestic market. So they will always ely heavily on ICC events

Rameez has been phenomenal so far....very aggressive guy...single-handedly decimating all cricket boards

Pakistan needs to become a better team for them to become a cricket super power. If you think about it no country is as passionate for cricket as Pakistan bar India - its literally the only sport that has any value in Pakistan. In England and Australia cricket is big but there are other sports + their populations are much smaller than Pakistans.
Pakistan should be generating 20-30% of ICC revenue because of their population but because our team is so bad most countries don't care about us anymore.
Its so sad we've reached a point where even if Pakistan cricket collapses it would hardly make a difference to ICC because India, Australia and England series are so lucrative these days.
Back in the days of Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram etc. if Pakistan were to stop playing cricket the ICC would be on the verge of collapse.

Its interesting imagining a scenario where Windies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were to stop playing cricket what would happen. All these cricket teams in recent times have seemed to be on the verge of collapse. I don't think any of them will ever collapse but I wonder if ICC have stopped caring about them because they know cricket could just turn into football where IPL is the main event and internationals are rare.
Imagine only test cricket bilaterals between SENA + India and IPL - would probably still produce a fair amount of money but I'm sure would get boring after a while.

I can't lie unless PCB do some major changes in the next few years, Pakistan cricket will be forgotten and treated like Zimbabwe, Bangladesh etc.
We need to establish ourselves as a major cricketing force within the next decade IMO. Cricket is changing rapidly.

There you go: "Give us $$$ else we all (inefficient boards) fall under the bridge"

This is mere speculation. In 2011 IPL has 10 teams. It started on April 8th and ended on may 28th which is less than 2 months. By having 2 extra teams doesn't mean each team will play 18 matches. In 2011 each team played 14 matches which meant 70 league matches and 4 playoffs thereby an additional 10 matches.

LAHORE: Former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Khalid Mahmood on Saturday expressed his disappointment over a statement of incumbent PCB chairman Ramiz Raja before the Senate Standing Committee on Sports given this week that “Pakistan cricket could collapse if the Indian prime minister decides to stop Pakistan’s funding (from the ICC)”.

“As a former chairman of the PCB who has been involved for almost fifty years promoting cricket in Pakistan, I find the statement of the current chairman reportedly made before the Senate Standing Committee highly shocking in which a ridiculous claim has been made that Pakistan cricket is funded by India and if Modi stops this funding, our cricket could collapse,” Khalid said in a written statement.

“Fail to figure out why the current [PCB] chairman is speaking the language of our worst enemy, but know for a fact that revenue for ICC events is raised through the joint effort of all ICC members and distributed as per an established formula that excludes any elements of charity by or to any member country,” the statement added.

“This is a too serious matter to be ignored and calls for a drastic action at the highest level against those making such idiotic and unpatriotic comments,” Khalid concluded.

It may be mentioned here that former opener Ramiz gave the abovementioned statement at a meeting headed by the chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports Raza Rabbani.

During that briefing, Ramiz while expressing his concern over the bad situation of Pakistan cricket said he had lost his sleep after monitoring the current position of the PCB.

It's mind boggling that a sporting body in world's 5th most populated country is struggling.

Dont see this as an issue, national sport should feed the demand of its fans. Pakistan fans dont care much about test cricket in general as much as they do LOI cricket. England used to care much more about the Ashes than any other cricketing event because that all England fans used to care about cricket being third popular sport in the country.

But in recent times with the advent of T20 cricket English fans got interested in LOIs so ECB changed it approach to ICC events and LOI cricket.

This is correct

I doubt Pakistan will let it’s cricket die or collapse because India stops finding ICC

A very silly talk by chaimran of PCB.

Just think, why would Indian business houses be stopping cricket? More cricket is more advertisement.
lol to think that business houses of India take their orders from the Ministry of Foreign affairs.

How accurate is this from Rameez? From all the financial info released by the ICC over the years, nowhere can the 90% figure be found.

That's not to say the BCCI and the Indian market is not the greatest beneficiary of the sport, huge sums of money from that market but it does not provide 90% of the ICC funding. I think Rameez is angling for something here.

This is correct

I doubt Pakistan will let it’s cricket die or collapse because India stops finding ICC

But the funding is not even true (see my post).

ICC events generate money based on ticket sales, TV revenue and ad revenue. That money is then divided among all the member nations, The BCCI gets the highest cut (it does not GIVE the cute), the ECB second, then PCB, CA and I believe CSA are next in line. Then there is further division of funds for other nations. This is well known.

I'm curious as to why Rameez is making up certain stories...is he angling for greater money from the Pak government?

Pathetic statement by Rambo, matches the other swamp guano tripe he gave about the blank cheque.
As for the 'dont give our business men such ideas ' brigade, if this was true, wouldnt the business men have thought of it before, not that they'd pull the plug- again assuming what rambo is rambling about is correct.
The events of the recent past have yielded one thing, or rather the lack of one thing.
The Pak cricket and setup to introspect and combat the perception which is why those teams refused to tour.
and what are they doing about this? to change this perception?
Instead you have Rambo ranting about wanting to match india in the rokda stakes which is so corny and cringe. a sad day when cricketing skills take a back seat and we talk sums of rokda waffling around.
I mean i liked Rambo as a commie, he was sincere and honest, also a good player.
And whilst at it, have the big 3 now become big 4 with NZ's entry?
And what about SL women's team, where does that rank? Big 5 now?
Why dont u guys get off the its all that one country and their board's fault gravy train and look inwards for a change?

Lol, some of you believe that indian business men does not wants to earn mega bucks with matches against Pakistan
They will jump at opportunity of sponsorship featuring india pak games.
A surely mega event in cricketing terms.

I disagree with your first statement. Pakistan's performance as a team has nothing to do with its current situation (financial clout). It's more to do with its economy (the most important factor), culture and image/perception in the world.

BCCI/India has worked really hard and made very smart moves in mobilising its population to become a huge market for Cricket. IPL didn't become a multi-billion dollar revenue generating machine just like that. All this takes time, so be patient.

I think Pakistan is moving in the right direction. The past two administrations, right from that guy who talks non-stop on TV to Wasim Khan and to Ramiz now, I think everyone is making an effort in making Pakistan strong again.

I have a feeling in coming years, Pakistan will rise to be the second largest market for Cricket in the world, and thereby command respect and become a superpower that you're talking about.

Did he give a solution or he is trying to get a shock n awe reaction from the members so that he feels better about himself?

A true leader should've come up with a solid solution.

For a minimum, if I was Ramiz, I would've completed my argument with this statement.

"I have cut down 50% of PCB's expense to be on a safe side if we ever get funding issues from ICC, we will work on half pay and work double shifts to make it work".

This guy sounds unfit for being placed as PCB chairman.
His mindset is attention hungry news reporter.

Sorry to say this but PCB management are shameless, India this, India that!

The best cricket team in the world right now has a population of barely 5 million people. They would give an arm and leg to have the same sort of revenue or the fan following the Pakistan cricket team has.

The current New Zealand team would run rings round any Pakistan squad in any format. India will always be a thorn, get over it and move onto better things. When the young prospects of the team are actually battling obesity, the issues are much larger than money or India.

Fyi, rameez raja is explaining all this to the senate committee. These committee's are required to investigate and be informed of matters related

You take away a India series from NZ and watch them collapse

The Pakistani fan base is pointless if it cannot be monetized

Ramiz is not taking a salary, he is working on an honoury basis. At best the PCB will pay for his travel and meal expenses etc

Rambo is on verge of becoming the worst ever Chairman of all sports bodies of all countries ever.

The English & Indian economies are roughly the same size (about 2x as big as Australia's). But England has very little growth left whereas India has enormous potential to mature.

That aside it is not the whole economy that funds cricket- it's how much companies are willing to pay for cricket rights. India, cricket hoovers up 80% of the sports market. Most of the money.

In England & Australia cricket is not the top dog sport- football in England dwarfs it to the same extent cricket in India does all others. Then you have rugby and other sports with smaller but significant followings- boxing, tennis etc. Australia is even more crowded with 4 football codes and the rest, tennis especially the big competitor in summer does very well with corporates.

Cricket would be doing well to get 15-20% of the sports dollar in England and Oz. So yes big economies but the proportion going to cricket is far smaller.

PCB contributes zero percent to ICC as per Ramiz in the video shared,
Is this statement factually correct ? Why is no Pakistan journalist questioning him on this.

They sure do contribute with lot of words.

The PCB is unprofessional. This is something he chose not to comment on.

England used to care much more about the Ashes than any other cricketing event because that all England fans used to care about cricket being third popular sport in the country.

Its a big issue for Pakistan from the financial aspect

Let me explain how. Say England invites Pakistan for 3 tests , 3 T20s and 3 ODIs. That's potentially 21 days of cricket - that means 21 days of tv broadcasts , in stadium revenue ( crowds , VIP seats , sponsors ) and sponsorship. So England makes profit from 21 days of action

But when England tours Pakistan for 3 tests , 3 ODIs and 3 T20s, Pakistan makes money on just 6 days ( 3 T20s and 3 ODIs ). The 3 tests with 15 days of action does not generate good tv revenue and sponsorships

So lack of interest in test cricket hampers Pakistan's ability to monetize its assets. You cannot keep playing T20s and ODIs all year

This is biggest problem with Pakistan cricket ( also with West Indies , Sri Lanka , South Africa to some extent ). While Big 3 has financial muscle bcoz they can monetize domestic test cricket much better

So for a start Pakistan needs to advertise test cricket more and make it more palatable to the general viewing public

Test cricket does not generate much money for Pakistan apart from when playing in England so thats just one venue and you cant just keep playing in England. Pakistan do actually play enough test match cricket in England.

The only other place playing test matches would be an advantage is in India or anywhere with India but we dont play them anyway.

What I am really surprised about is why test match cricket interest has gone down so much in Pakistan in the last 20 years that no one bothers to watch it at all even on TV. The most popular format by far is T20 for now.

That is a big problem for Pakistan cricket

Pakistani fans dont like test cricket. so for PCB there is little money to be made from hosting test matches. Only way to make money is from T20s and ODI and from ICC revenue. Hence PCB will always struggle financially

Imagine if Pakistan fans liked test cricket - then Pakistan wud be making big bucks from home test series against England and Australia.

Point is its failure of PCB to promote test cricket among its home fans. Or may be Pakistani fans are so enamored of Shahid Afridi that o way they will watch test cricket

Either way its not always fault of BCCI and ICC

Back in 1990's India was not cricket powerhouse financially. However in 20 years they changed things around without help ( infact resistance and sabotage from some members). If India can change things why not others?

Its all related to the boom in the Indian economy in the last 20 years. The Indian govt in the 90's made massive investments in education and technology and the fruits of that investment are being seen now.

Point is its failure of PCB to promote test cricket among its home fans. Or may be Pakistani fans are so enamored of Shahid Afridi that o way they will watch test cricket

Either way its not always fault of BCCI and ICC

Cricket is not as big a sport as people first thing in Pakistan. Pakistan cricket fans are no where near as crazy as say Indian or Bangladeshi fans.

The 90s kids where just as crazy but the new generation from 20s onwards are no way near as crazy perhaps not playing cricket at home had a big effect.

India is fairly the supper power of cricket as they are the one country who actually care about cricket. Its almost like baseball situation with USA where no other country actually care.

Its not the same, India with its 1.2billion population and popullation that actually care about cricket and spend money on cricket makes the difference. Where Pakistanis dont like spending money on cricket, they simply dont care as much.

This is linked to the state of the economy. India has a much larger middle class with a decent amount of disposable income to spend on Cricket. The PCB is only now doing things that they should have done ages ago i.e. improving producton quality, launching merchandising, launching a YT channel, social media engagement, launching a TV channel, going all out to all potential investors inside and outside Pakistan. The results will not show immediately but perhaps in the next 5-10 years.

I thought Australia, Eng and NZ were rich countries. So basically India can trigger collapse to those cricket boards if they want to.

Australian economy is getting worse day by day. Do you the think India would be better place to live if I have any skill? My Indian friends are desperate to work in supermarket here than go back to India.

Its amusing how pakistanis always have Indian friends who do things that support the Pakistani narrative.

From what Ramiz is saying, yes.
If 90% of ICC's total revenue comes from India then it's not even fair for India to stay as a member of ICC.

They can keep all of that 90% to themselves by going solo.

You will find many such Indians in Canada, America and the UK. It depends on your priorities, some people just want to live in the West

Per capita income of Australia $49,378, USA $59,928, UK $44,920, NZ $40,748 and India $7,166. Then how India is richer than Australia, UK, USA or even NZ.

Australia is the best place to live in the world currently. And Punjab is one the worst state to earn livelihood so why wouldn't your low skilled friend want live in Australia?

Just like that Taliban’s spokesman replied to that Indian journalist, “if a plane lands at Delhi airport offering a ticket n visa free trip to USA..........”
