[VIDEO] "Our bowlers might not be as s**y as Pakistan's, but we produce results" : Rahul Dravid

Always liked the positive vibes he has as a person. Good to see him relaxed as otherwise role of Indian head coach can become mental pretty tough.

Shaheen, Naseem, Hasnain and Haris are superstars in the eyes of the Indian public like Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Akhtar and Amir before them.

:warner Shaheen yes, he has that aura and is currently on top because he had a great game vs India last we played. The rest got battered yesterday, so they have a lot of picking up to do before they regain respect, forget superstardom lol.

With Shaheen, even if he were to get smashed the next time we face him, I think he will still be respected.

Personally I like the look of Hasnain - reminds me of Mustafizur (just appearance, not bowling lol)

Ok that sentence should've been broken up.

I like the look and bowling action of Hasnain.

His physical appearance happens to remind me of Mustafizur.

:srt

yes, no one knows about arshdeep or avesh khan...or maybe they are one season IPL superstars like unadkat. who knows. you guys seem to hype up your players way beyond their talent.

atleast naseem has a test hattrick and a 5 fer (yes, small teams but hattrick and 5-fers are not easy to get).

Who told you they are superstars, again i have to ask which planet you are living in.

you answered your own question. you said a fast medium pacer that can swing and seam. this was not the case today.

when the pitch is flat and without any assistance, pacers that bowl 135kph are like bowling machines. They have to rely on slow off cutters and full balls outside offstump and really good yorkers to be effective. otherwise, any other delivery will be deposited...

look at nawaz six off of pandiya for instance. that was a front foot half pull half slog over midwicket. you cannot play that shot in australia or a bouncy pitch like last week. you will edge or mistime it.

compare for instance rohit sharma and kL rahul shots against naseem and hasnain or haris. with the exception of pull shots by rohit, most of the lofted drives were mistimed. that is what pace does.

pace causes less time to react and that is what induces error. any professional cricketer you talk to will easily tell you that there is. HUGE difference between 85 mph and 88 mph. 88 + mph seems to be the cut off when the pace gets to a level which is hard to play

this has to do with the fact that there are very few 88+ mph bowlers a batsman comes accross their entire domestic career and even international level. at that time, its not about. the pitch...forget it if the pitch is helping, like last week. look at KL rahul dismissal vs naseem or kohli edge...this was a combination of both being beaten for pace along with help from pitch. in both cases, the pre requisite for the fast pace

being fast is the most important skill. naseem shah two years ago was fast but also very wayward. he has tightened his radar.

husnanin needs to do the same.

these bowlers will be very challenging to face in the next 2-3 years, believe me.
Thats what i also mentioned. It depends more on what is the demand of the day on a particular surface. Haris bowled with same pace in previous game vs india but the difference was the length he bowled. And the result you know. But i really don't think the same pace trio of pakistan will be so effective in next world cup in Australia as there the conditions will demand something else. My point is only that in current tournament pak is having the best pace attack but that will not apply all over the world as pace is not the only thing which matters.

I completly agree on what you said about todays match. But my point is that there are certain conditions and pitches where you really need to extract some pace to succeed. On the other hand there are also some conditions where that extra pace gives the advantage to the batsman itself. So, bowling intelligently according to the conditions is more important than just blindly relying on pace. There are bowlers in other teams and were in past also who have increased or even cut down their pace for a certain series or match whatever the conditions demands. I feel pace is important but with pakistan bowlers pace is like an obsession for them. They just feels happy by looking at speed guns showing 145+ even if they goes wicket less in a match.

I think you are misunderstanding my point. Having pace does not mean you bowl every ball at 145. Bowlers obviously vary their pace based on conditions. But at the end of the day the difference is this: a guy with pace can bowl anywhere between 120-145 based on match-situation, conditions, opposition. A bowler who does not have that kind of pace cannot. He will probably have to work in the 120-135 bracket.

I'm sure you can tell which bowler will be more dangerous on any given pitch.

Also important to note, that while you can learn how to bowl in the right areas, line and length, slower balls, yorkers etc. etc, you can't exactly learn pace. You either got it, or you don't. Which is what makes it such a precious commodity in this game.

Agrees, got your point now.

Haris was breathing fire. He bowled mostly over 150 and his last over was phenomenal even though fakhar gifted 8 runs but still that was a phenomenal over. He bowled those 150ks Yorkers to Virat and kept him quiet.

Need to gradually phase this trundle brigade out and blood the likes of Kartik Tyagi, Mohsin Khan, Prasidh etc into T20Is post the WC.
Having Bumrah back will also help but the mindset of this management seems to be very different from the Kohli-Shastri-Bharat Arun combo.

They are not selecting Mohsin or Kartik even for A games.

The A tests vs NZ has a poor pace attack except Mukesh Kumar. Prasidh got injured and they replaced him with Thakur.

The likes of Thakur BK Chahar etc are not going to take things forward for the team.

Thakur should be nowhere near the Indian team.

Only one of Chahar BK Arshdeep should be in the T20 team. And it should be Arshdeep.

The selection committee and team management have been atrocious.

Good post.

You made a great point that the advantage for an express pacer is that he can vary his pace according to dituation and a 130ish bowlrr cant.

The last over of harris yesterday is an example of that. Bowled pacey yorkers and also bowled slower ones

Haris was absolutely phenomenal last night. His bowling in the last over was the most remarkable display of death bowling I have seen in a long time. And what was most impressive was 147/150 kph yorkers which you just don't see most bowlers deliver these days. Deserved much better figures than he finished with.

It's okay, you can say it. You find them all sexy and that's fine. :yk

Most Indians do. Compared to the Kumars, Chahals and Deeps, these boys look like Bollywood actors.

Forget IPL, I think our fast bowlers can finally supplant the Khans in Bollywood after they retire from cricket.

This guy still living in 1995...atleast mentally. :91:

India selects a 35 year old has been T20ls spinner. But wont give chances to a 90 mph 25 year old fast bowler.

I am afraid, this team management is going backwards.

Yes Mr. Dravid? Any more comments?

Pathetic team selection.

And the shameless defence.

On top of that they selected Chahar to replace Avesh.

Kuch to sharam karo.

As a journalist put it. We don't even need our five fingers of our one hand to count the number of changes India made since going out of the T20 WC of 2021.

You should go protest in front of the Modi's office. The Indian government is the only hurdle between the Indian public's enjoyment of some actual fast bowlers.

Lmao. Your young players are garbage, that is why no changes have been made.

Meanwhile, Pakistan have made wholesale changes from the team that thumped India in 2021. This is because we have the PSL, not IPL. :yk

Actually i support Modi and his decision to have minimum relationship with Pakistan. Long may it continue.

Would Modi approve of you simping for Pakistan on a Pakistani cricket forum?

Keep crying though. I love it! Maybe your 25 year old fast bowler is deemed good enough to play against Afghanistan. The fruits of the IPL sure are on display. :yk

India's pace-bowlers against Sri Lanka:

11.5 - 0 - 105 - 0

Ever since dravid said this, we are waiting for results.

Terrible bowlrrs. These trudlers couldnt defeat sri lanka. Even afghanis defeated lanka

India's pace-bowlers against Sri Lanka:

The IPL has clearly helped India develop some fast bowlers. Steyn was clearly wrong when he stated that the PSL has the highest standard of fast bowling in the world.

Wasim Akram and Irfan Pathan laying into Bhuvi for his performance today at the end.

His lack of pace a problem according to Wasim.

Everyone knows it. Except the Indian team management and selectors.

I’ am disappointed hearing this from you, someone who’s regarded as a high class poster it’s sad to see.

Also is this cricket related?

He was never a 150k bowler. Its unfair to blame this loss on the pace of one bowler. lol.

Imo Singh should have been rested, he was way to nervous after the abuse he recieved after the loss to Pakistan.

I dont watch IPL but surely if its the best T20 league India should have a bus full of top class pacers?

This is terrible. People of both nations need to come together, not push each other around. Kohli, Rohit will get heroes welcome in Pakistan anywhere they go because they are genuine superstars of the game. Not sure if the same sentiment would be reciprocated for our players barring few places in India. And that is not good.

Bhuvi, Avesh, Hooda and Pandya are all excellent pacers. They just choose to not give their 100% if they aren't dressed in their very fashionable IPL jerseys.

The only way forward for India is to play Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah. However, having the bowling dominated by minority communities will not sit well with the current political climate of India.

Will you say the same if pakistani players tommorow support the political goal of pakistan to separate Kashmir from India?

Thats the reason why Pakistanis wont be welcomed in India.

And i will be honest here, many of the players probably don't care about Kashmir, but they will be under pressure from public and state to support it.

Its a sad reality.

Dravid has been nothing but embarrassment for India since he tookover as coach. The man took 2 swing bowlers who bowl in 130's as his main bowlers in UAE. That was the first mistake. Then he keeps persisting with Chahal who is useless in T20's. His style of bowling is cannon fodder for batsmen.

Dravid also does not have the guts to sit Kohli. His love for Pant who is a nonperformer in T20's also contributed for India's failure.

Read my post above. Please give an honest opinion.

India must drop TTFs and unleash youngsta beauties.

Jokes aside, only Rohit showed intent to win (scorecard observation).

India's new set of super duper phaast bowlers will have to wait for their turn, after the WC maybe.

They will never pick unproven bowlers for a WC.

Overall this is an average bunch from a nation with nearly 1.4 billion people, richest board in history. Pakistan have better bowlers in the PSL.

You can play an away series in Pakistan. Indians will be welcomed because Pakistan wont mix sport with politics.

India should not play Pak in any match , should have boycotted Asia cup , saved yourself the embarrassment of becoming the first of 4 nations to jump on the plane.

If India played players with form from the IPL, the likes of Bhuneshwar Axar Ashwin Chahar Shardul Prasidh etc wont be anywhere near the team.

I could go into politics but I won’t it’s a cricket discussion. You’ve always been welcomed by Pakistanis on this forum. Sad to see your view of them.
Anyway I do hope india bounce back.

But of course, joshila knows more about cricket than Dravid and Rohit Sharma...

My view is regarding the Pakistani state.

If captains and coaches were always right, no one will ever sacked.

Regards to your opinion, on IPL, more than 13 years ago, the opinion of the likes of you stopped bothering Indian cricket.

India desperately needs to add some pace to its bowling. Bhuvi 8th stump 120kph thunderbolts won't work against most teams. Ashdeep proved that pace matters with his 140kph yorkers at the death.

I guess your comments showing your class, hence I refrained to point out that Hooda is not a pacer. By the way, have you ever seen India's contingent in other team sports? There are players from those religions, which are probably long extinct in Pakistan. In cricket, any sane person can see the religion wise representation history Pak viz-a-viz India. But I guess, bigotry getting better of you. Get well soon.

Not gonna lie

Bhuvi was too good. That ball to get rid of Rehmanullah was the ball of the tournament for me. Gorgeous delivery to remove a form batsman!

Realistically

Bhuvaneshwar should just bowl out his 4 overs and not have anything to do with the death overs. So India should keep 6 overs of two other seamers safe for overs 14-20

Powerplay:
1. Bhuvaneshwar 1
2. Bumrah 1
3. Bhuvaneshwar 2
4. Arshdeep 1
5. Bhuvaneshwar 3
6. Axar 1

7. Bhuvaneshwar 4
8. Axar 2
9. Chahal 1
10. Axar 3
11. Chahal 2
12. Axar 4
13. Chahal 3
14. Arshdeep 2
15. Chahal 4
16. Bumrah 2
17. Arshdeep 3
18. Bumrah 3
19. Arshdeep 4
20. Bumrah 4

There you go, I’ve solved it for Rohit as well

What did Dravid say that was wrong? Pace is not everything. For example Sami was very fast yet he was a mediocre bowler, on the other hand Asif only had average speed yet he could have been Pakistan's greatest bowler if he was not involved in fixing and drugs.

I stand corrected. Arshdeep is not that bad. Definitely see alot of room for improvement there.

Avesh Khan is utter garbage though.

Moshin Khan was unplayable in the IPL in the sense his hard lengths were very hard to score of. His ER was 5.96 even though he bowled only power play overs and death overs. His bowling partner Avesh Khan took 2 wickets more but went for 8.72 an over. Holder 9.42 Chameera 8.72 Stoinis 11 an over. He was oen of the main reason they reached play offs. Sadly he was overlooked.

Moshin clocked 151 kph as well in one of the match. He may or may not click at international level. But worth a look for his economy rate.

Why do you think Arshdeep was selected but Mohsin was not?

Mohsin had more wickets and better SR.

Arshdeep was exclusively picked for ice cool temperament he displayed during death overs. Everyone knew he was very much an unfinished article. But he exclusively bowled in death for PKXI. Suddenly India made him bowl with new ball which was wrong. Besides India's previous death bowling option was out of commission with injury. Natrajan whose economy was 6.17 in Australia. His come back didn't go well. More or less like for like replacement. Moshin on the other hand was an all phase bowler like Bumrah. Bowled well both with new ball and end overs. He was basically competing with Siraj, Prasidh, Avesh, Chahar. Even then omission of Moshin was surprising given that he can also bat a bit. Rest are absolute duds with bat.

Arshdeep did bowl in the PP for Punjab.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...arat-titans-16th-match-1304062/full-scorecard

Arshdeep is part of the "system" , Mohsin isn't. Hence not selected.

Look at Chahar.Injured.Recovers and striaght into the team. Why? Because he is part of the system.

Once you are in the system its difficult to get you out. The players in the system will be rinsed and repeated.

Outsiders like Mohsin have almost no chance.

All of them were outside the system when they started. At some point you have to bring them in. Avesh is an under-19 product. So there is obviously more hype surrounding him. Moshin was more like a surprising package. Pretty much every one was impressed with him. He had enough limelight to be part of the system. I think his non-selection was more to do with competition for roles. Arshdeep's competition was Harshal, Natrajan. One injured. One gone off the boil. Bumrah's absence made his entry easier.

I agree. I wanted to try him out instead of Arshdeep who is quite limited ino. And I can't for the life of me understand the obsession with Deepak Chahar. We already have Bhuvaneshwar. Can't afford another bowler who is actually even slower and doesn't get as much swing or zip either .

Avesh Arshdeep were in the system since U19 days.

Mohsin was actually with Mumbai and impressed them. Couldn't play in 2021 due to injury.

Natarajan did well in the 2022 IPL.

Harshal is all hype. He is a 32 year old journey man. His performances in the last 2 IPLs was due to slow pitches in UAE and due to pitches slowing down at the 3 Mumbai grounds in the second half of the IPL.

Because the team management led by Dravid is obsessed with having bowlers who can bat.

Ashwin Chahar Axar Thakur all in because of that.

This is a disastrous policy. Keeping out a genuinely good bowler who cannot bat and playing avg bowler who can bat is not a very sound strategy.

Lols never thought Indian posters here would be so desperate like pakistani posters in past. We always wanted to play bowlers who was never picked;

Sadaf Hussain, Mir Hamza and few others whose name I don't remember as of now.

Let's see if your bowlers will eventually be selected or not. People on bench or outside the team are always better in the eyes of supporters.

Do you think its a good strategy to pick avg bowlers who can bat over good bowlers who cannot bat for the 9 10 11 places?

Sadaf and Mir Hamza were the type of bowlers who would struggle in limited overs their success would only be in helpful conditions in tests maybe that’s why they weren’t invested in there have been players who’ve been overlooked without good reason but with these type of bowlers you can see why it happened.

Well I never mentioned people wanted them in LOIs. It was for Tests, especially for SENA countries. They had crazy FC stats back then.
But the point was that we always want players who are not selected and the fans all over the World will probably be like that, nothing wrong with that basically, but some get too desperate.

Lol most of the bowlers picked for you can not bat much in T20s, Just look at the stats of Avesh Khan, Arshdeep and Bhuvi, nothing to write about. The only one could be Deepak Chahar but he played only against Afghans.

Your only agenda is to bring express bowlers to the national team, so you can brag about the matter that India also possess real fast bowlers. But with Dravid in charge that would probably not happen.

Because the team management led by Dravid is obsessed with having bowlers who can bat.

I don't think Axar is a problem to be honest. I think he will be around the squads and I think he is quality.

I don't think there are so many specialist bowling options o replace as fans are suggesting. Going by IPL stars, Chahal is our best spinner but fans were criticizing him as well.

The only one I can think of is Mohsin who not only had great stats but also has that left arm angle and pace . Im not sure if he's great at the death because that's where we are struggling a bit. Hopefully they give him a shot in the next series.

Lols never thought Indian posters here would be so desperate like pakistani posters in past. We always wanted to play bowlers who was never picked;

Sadaf Hussain, Mir Hamza and few others whose name I don't remember as of now.

Let's see if your bowlers will eventually be selected or not. People on bench or outside the team are always better in the eyes of supporters.

There is a difference though. The hype for Sadaf etc was mostly due to his FC stats. Most people hadn't seen him bowl and he was not tested against international quality batsmen.

The likes of Mohsin Khan etc have been watched very closely by people in IPL playing against international level batsmen. Also, he has been spoken about very highly by some players/coaches etc (KL Rahul for instance said he is scary to face in the nets and Shami said Mohsin is a better bowler than Shami himself).

Of course, this is all very early days and India unfortunately has this system in place where new players go through a long process starting from NCA, India A tours etc. before getting selected. So, people just want that to be fast tracked for the likes of Mohsin and Kartik Tyagi etc since they are not even on the radar yet.

Chahar Thakur Ashwin Axar all bat. Bhuvi is ok ok.

Express bowlers? Leave that. Atleast bring in proper bowlers. Not avg bowlers who can bat.

I don't think Axar is a problem to be honest. I think he will be around the squads and I think he is quality.

How many wickets and runs for Axar in the IPL?

India A tours are becoming a joke. It was meant to be for young players to get experience.

These days they select Shardul Thakur or Axar Patel in A team.

No offence, but the IPL is hardly a barometer for determining how good a bowler is.

The bunch of se*y bowlers picked for the 2022 Asia Cup have lost their se*iness - Hasnain, Dahani nowhere to be found. Naseem down on pace etc

Hopefully, PSL X can throw up a couple more se*y bowlers who can maintain it for more than 2-3 years
