"Full squad taking part in practice. They use a marble slab in the nets to get use to the bounce" From PCB

Slab is at too short of the length and guy is not cutting or pulling, what’s the point??

More focus should be on good length st bounce. Plus early summer real issue will be wet wickets, bounce willl not be the issue, it will be ball seaming.

England don't have the pace bowlers to be worrying about short length bowling :broad

Yeah this exercise doesn't seem too practical.

Plus, they will hardly advertise that they're going to be bowling a short ball. :riaz

practice for swing brothers.. our batters will look tailenders even against the likes of rankin on ireland's green mamba..

Well it might be that the batsmen were having trouble with the short ball especially the new guys. Yes the main problem is going to be seam and swing but these pitches will have more bounce especially compared to the FC pitches.

I actually don't think the slab does a good enough job. The hard surface does allow more bounce but it's too smooth causing the ball to skid through which actually reduces the bounce to some degree. Should try to manufacture a slab with more friction. The bounce would be more pronounced and the pace will be a bit more realistic.

i think slab will improve the muscle memory to go on back foot and play. but will it cover the seam movement.. :s

But aren’t they in England already?

Won’t just playing on the normal pitches over there be enough practice. Pitches are already bouncier in England so why use a concrete slab?

I'm pretty sure international pitches differ significantly to those used for local club level games even in UK. ICC monitor international pitches across the cricketing world to ensure they maintain a certain standard.

I think all throwing responsibilities in the nets should be given to Hafeez.

What again?

Didn't they do this before the Manchester test last tour, and we know what happened then.

Has this strategy EVER worked?

I remember they did it before Headingely 2006, back in 2010 and then two years ago before Manchester Test. All three occasions our batsmen got rolled over for fun

Only delaying the inevitable, I have a feeling we will get absolutely slaughtered on this tour. The only thing we might win are the two T20s against Scotland.

I feel if we get the selections right we may see an upset or two coming up from Pakistan.

JM swears by it!

The marble slab has nothing to do with bounce or swing...the only purpose is to speed up the reflexes of the batsmen. That's it.

Whenever I hear that we're using this fabled marble slab we always get battered.

English pitches tend to be slow these days so it is the swing and seam I'm more worried about.

We need to find out a new way of tackling bounce. This is just old fashioned and its results haven't been what they seemed to be in the eighties.

I doubt they will bowl short stuff, it will be mostly pitched up round fifth stump with occasional short ball

I don't think England pitches have too much bounce. That's the reason traditionally Sub-continent batsmen have done well there. It is more of lateral movement. Australia/SA have lots of bounce and if Pakistan were going to one of these countries I would have understood this tactic.

Invent a machine that can late swing the ball at 130-145kph.

Marble slabs won't help at all. Been doing that since the 80s. Still fall like butterflies overseas.

Seems its like a comfort blanket for Pak batsmen! They just need to have practiced on it to feel ready for bounce

No amount of marble practice can fix the problems in our batsmen's heads.
