So Ahluwalia said that then the girls did not need to be accompanied, but that finally four Sikh volunteers had to go with them as they were scared to go with the soldiers.

He was immensely disappointed with Modi and said Imran Khan has outsmarted Modi diplomatically.

I am south indian but married to a Punjabi woman who also keeps the Sikh faith. Her dad and mum dislike Pakistan with a passion that I could never understand being from the south and further having lived in the US since I was a teen and having dated Pakistani girls when I was younger. I think it goes back to partition and how much their families suffered and lost during moving from Peshawar and Gujranwala to India.

So take it from me. Sikhs are no friend of pakistan. You may find a south indian like me have more of an open mind than you would any northern indian person particularly not Sikhs who were deeply impacted by the partition

You are extending a single data point to a curve. I have met different kinds of sikhs (from good to bad), who may or may not hate Pakistan, but most of them are no fan of the BJP. Once I was invited to a party because my hindu friends told me there is a sikh guy who is anti BJP and if I can brainwash him to the right path. I tried to convince him that Mughals, Pakistanis and the Congress were his real enemies and how we hindus love sikhs, but he kept saying that he doesn't care about the past, and wants development and no cow politics. One of the rare cases where I failed to brainwash someone.

Sikhs have the same characteristics as us Pak Punjabis where we relate to them more, Pakistan consists of people who are "northern Indian" when you put the two countries together. They can sympathise with the Kashmir issue since they too have seen the horrible 1984 massacre.

Which is why they need a referendum to decide who they would like to be with, Pakistan or India. However, if BJP did not exist maybe they would be treated better by a more tolerant government.
