The anthem launch ceremony was attended by representatives of the six franchisees, sponsors, media and the PCB staff, who were unanimous in giving their thumbs-up to the song and its video, which reflects the air of festivity gripping the entire nation with fans and supporters from all walks of life celebrating the home-coming of one of the most popular leagues on the planet.

After Tayyar Hain was presented to the stakeholders half an hour before its official release, there was a brief Q&A session in which the team representatives, players and senior members of the media participated and not only shared their experiences but also spoke about their expectations.

PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani said: “The release of the anthem officially launches our marketing campaign for the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020. Tayyar Hain nicely sums up the mood of the Pakistan cricket fans who are seen embracing, rejoicing and celebrating to welcome the league to Pakistan at the back of home international matches.

“What pleases me more is all the key stakeholders tonight stand firmly behind this league and I have now no doubts that this year’s event will set new benchmarks and standards. I am confident the collective approach I am seeing tonight, will translate into providing unique experience to the fans in a high-pressure tournament in which every match will count.

“I want to congratulate the PCB team for their hard work in putting this together and hope they will continue to work with the same zeal and passion until the final ball is bowled on 22 March at the Gaddafi Stadium.”

Alamgir Khan Tareen, owner of Multan Sultans, said: “Tonight, I am feeling the sense of being in a very special place. It is wonderful that all stakeholders have gathered under one roof to celebrate the homecoming of one of the premier competitions. Tayyar Hain is the perfect anthem for PSL V. The music, lyrics and videography are from the top drawer. After listening to Tayyar Hain, I can’t wait for the HBL PSL 2020 to begin.”

Ali Naqvi, owner of Islamabad United, said: “It is one of those compositions which reinvigorate entire stadiums. I could feel that energy in me when I first heard it. Tayyar Hain is definitely going in my playlist. HBL PSL has evolved into a profound brand since its launch and I am hopeful that its popularity will grow manifold.”

Atif Rana, CEO of Lahore Qalandars, said: “Tayyar Hain is sizzling and I have no doubts this will become one of the most popular numbers in the coming days. The league is evolving and we are improving and getting better with each event, and tonight’s event establishes this fact as all key stakeholders are celebrating the hosting of the event in Pakistan.”

Javed Afridi, owner of Peshawar Zalmi, said: “This is Pakistan’s league and we stand firmly with the PCB to make it a huge success. Tayyar Hain correctly captures the mood in Pakistan and there is no doubt it is for everyone to celebrate as this has been a phenomenal year for Pakistan cricket with the return of Test cricket. A strong Pakistan cricket means a strong HBL PSL, which, in turn, means stronger teams, top notch cricket in front of packed houses.”

Nadeem Omar, owner of Quetta Gladiators, said: “Tayyar Hain perfectly encapsulates the Pakistani flavour and makes one excited for the HBL PSL and cricket in general. Every HBL PSL anthem has been better than its predecessor and this one has set a new benchmark. The presence of the cricketing stars is bound to make the fans watch it again and again.”

Salman Iqbal, owner of Karachi Kings, said: “Tayyar Hain is a true reflection of the diverse Pakistani culture. I am pretty sure that soon this anthem will be blasting out of every car from Shahra-e-Faisal to the Abdul Sattar Edhi road. I thoroughly enjoyed the music composition and its lyrics, and like the HBL PSL, they were full of zeal.”

Naveed Asghar, Chief Marketing Officer, HBL, said: “HBL has been the lead sponsor for the Pakistan Super League since its inception. I take pride in saying that HBLPSL has not only become the single largest sporting event in the country, but also the most loved and eagerly awaited platform.

“We continue to partner with PCB to make this platform bigger and better every year and the official anthem is an integral part of this celebration. This year’s anthem - Tayyar Hain - embodies everything that we stand for as partners. We are thrilled to host the biggest cricketing event in Pakistan to enable the dreams of our fans.”

Tayyar Hain, through its lyrics and music, captures the mood and celebrates the fact that the entire HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 is taking place in Pakistan for the very first time.

Tayyar Hain’s video reflects the air of festivity gripping the entire nation with fans and supporters from all walks of life celebrating the home-coming of one of the most popular leagues on the planet.

Tayyar Hain is a collaboration of Pakistan’s rock icon Ali Azmat, folk music legend Arif Lohar, former Awaz singer Haroon Rashid and famous pop artist Asim Azhar. It has been produced by renowned musician Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan (Xulfi), while Kamal Khan of Laal Kabootar fame has directed the anthem video.

A total of 22 instruments have been used in creating Tayyar Hain, including indigenous instruments such as tumba, chimta, rubab and harmonium, and the video also casts Pakistan star cricketers Babar Azam, Hasan Ali, Rumman Raees, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shan Masood.

NO ! Very dull song to be honest, i still missed Chal josh dikha dy tu :D

song is not bad at all but video is more than horrible, they should've added crickets or some PSl clips in this video

I used to hate Najam Sethi but Wasim Khan and Ehsan Mani with their bloody decisions have screwed every department including PSL and made Sethi look like a picasso. Every thing is in a flux and these guys can't handle it.

Ali Zafar's PSL anthem was good, last year they replaced it with a boring number by Fawad Afzal Khan which was pathetic. Now comes another bakwaas and this time with more artists. Who is in charge and which segment are they targeting, looks like they are leaving most of Pakistan out of it.

Why do they need to change it every year? Just keep the first one and make it the official one. This looks very cringeworthy. Ali Azmat and Haroon have lost it and Asim Azhar is a good singer but not cut for this genre.

doesn't matter.

The bad the song the better.

I often find the tournament songs to be an irrelevent thing. The only thing they contribute is the tune that is used on score cards, yes it does end up giving you that feeling where you remember the whole tournament and atmosphere.

But there is a benefit of such bad songs. Memes will be made. I have noticed one thing, social media memes contribute alot. THey actually bring audience towards a show.

THat drama, mayray pass tum ho. Alot of people only watched it just to make internet content such as memes and jokes.

Yes, the tune is bad. But everyone on social media is now talking about PSL. THe hype is building up once again

Looks like I am a part of a small group of people who think its not as bad as people are making it out to be. Yes Ali Zafar's song was pretty good but for any such league song it takes bit of time to get accustomed to.

Why even have an anthem or ceremony for PSL. It is a waste of time and money . Just play and focus on cricket.

It’s not too bad. Better than last years. Production quality is good and they are trying to capture the sense of cricket returning home. Give it a solid B+

With you on this one.

I song isn't bad but it's kinda all over the place the video has a lot going on too but that's typical Pakistan , I don't like that they didn't really show great representations of the team either but regardless it's the song of PSL this year so looks like I will be singing Tayyar Hein

How can you struggle to come up with a decent song while having a very decent budget? Why not outsource this to Coke Studio?

What exactly is the point of releasing a new anthem every year? Just stick to the one tune.

Overkill these anthems.

Why keep doing new ones.

Horrible song. Why can't they just make one good iconic theme song for the PSL? The edited meme versions of the music video are better to watch than the original. Thankfully the rest of PSL is usually a high quality affair.

Its for the youth and the relevant stakeholders. I can tell you for a fact that a large majority of fans look forward to the PSL anthem as much as they do for the tournament starting itself.

No wonder this new anthem racked up 1.1 million views in 24 hours. The anthem is a major part of the PSL brand.

I think i just watched an extended pepsi commercial. Driving factor behind these anthems seem to be advertising revenue for the psl and brand awareness which is a good thing but it also serves as a vehicle for production companies and cringworthy artists like Ali Azmat to keep extending their long overdue music careers. Song is ok but not catchy enough.

Cant blame him, he probably didnt even write the song himself.

Still pakistans music scene is pretty trash

There is no need of wasting money on a mediocre song every year.

Its okay I guess, generic pre tournament song. Not sure about the bald dude at the start, he is pretty bad. What is this Michael Jackson culture of wearing your shades everywhere?

Clearly you have no interest in Coke Studio.

Ive seen coke studio. On one end you have fading music stars and on the other end you have rich kids who have little talent but have the avenues open to them because of mommy and daddy money.

In the age of youtube you're telling they couldnt find one talented singer in pakistan. Absurd.

Goes to show how much effort they actually put into searching for the right singer.

Pakistanis still don't understand that pop music is not the genre for a sports anthem. Rock or Rap are the only two genres cut out for sports.

Cricket tends to make Pakistan emotional. And with the annual HBL PSL right around the corner, our passions are just about to let loose, cheering, ranting, venting on social media and taking not just the various matches to heart but also everything else associated with them – like the anthems especially composed for the show.

The yearly HBL PSL anthems tend to be a big deal, accepted wholeheartedly or, more often than not, subjected to plenty of online vitriol. Regardless, the cricket-oriented upbeat tunes are listened to incessantly and ring out on to the stadium in between matches. For good or for worse, they become memorable.

And Pepsi has decided to add its clout to the show by having a special PSL anthem composed of its very own. The song’s teaser releases later today and packs in the punches with a mix of popular veteran and young singers and a composer-producer who has a fan following of his very own.

Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan, aka Xulfi, has composed and produced this song while it is being sung by an entourage that features Fawad Khan, Aima Baig, Haroon Shahid, Asfar Hussain (vocalist from the band Bayaan) and Bilal Ali (vocalist from the band Kashmir). It is particularly good to note that Pepsi is trying to live up to its promise of promoting the young bands that have come into the limelight with its Battle of the Bands show. Pitting the two young vocalists from Bayaan and Kashmir with other, more commercially viable names is a step in the right direction.

The song is titled ‘Khel Ja Dil Se’ – quite apt for an anthem centered around cricket, a sport that has always been close to Pakistan’s ‘dil’. Some of the lyrics can be credited to Zulfi while the main chunk of them have been written by Adnan Dhool.

Zulfi describes the process of creating a song for the PSL: “It’s very important to think about the ideology behind the brand. What is the brand? Cricket. What is cricket? It is a sport that we excel in, that unites us and has the capability of giving us goose bumps. Then, I thought beyond cricket and turned to the magic of belief. Life is a game, just like cricket and if we play it with all our hearts, we are going to succeed. Hence, the title, ‘Khel Ja Dil Se’.”

“I have enjoyed blending together the voices of the different singers, using different microphones that suit their voice quality the best. The sound is very strongly electronically driven but it is a modern pop song – with lyrics that run deep. They talk about how failure is not a problem, it is an inevitable part of the journey that can lead to your success.”

As one of Pakistan’s most successful music producers, Zulfi has worked with almost every musician in the country but his journey particularly ties in with Fawad Khan, dating all the way back to the days when the two were part of the same band, Entity Paradigm or EP. Last year, Zulfi co-wrote ‘Uth Jaag’ which Fawad performed in the show, Pepsi Battle of The Bands and now, they have worked together again for the Pepsi HBL PSL song. “Fawad and I do go a long way back,” agrees Zulfi, “and this song, I feel, particularly suits his vocals. That’s very important for a singer – to have a producer who understands exactly what could make him sound his very best.”

Zulfi, interestingly, has also produced the other, main PSL song, ‘Tayyar Hain’, sung by Asim Azhar, Ali Azmat, Arif Lohar and Haroon Rashid – a song that has weathered plenty of critique ever since its release. “’Tayyar Hain’ is more like a national anthem. The world, at large, has often asked Pakistan if it is ‘ready’ or ‘tayyar’? And ever since the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009, we have been trying to get ready, to bring cricket back to where it was. Now, we are declaring that yes, we are ready.”

Speaking about the bashing the song received, he says, “There’s nothing that we can do about it except try our very best. I put my heart into creating ‘Tayyar Hain’, as I have with ‘Khel Ja Dil Se’.”

He says out the very final lyrics of the song, “Tera ho jo lehron peh kinaray wohi lagta hai, Thakan jiske ho chehray pay chehra wohi hansta hai. This resonates with me and the songs that I write. I have put in a lot of effort, I am sure that I’ll reach the ‘kinara’ or be successful.”

If anyone’s heard Aag’s cover of mitti they’ll know the only differentiating factor is Ali. Pakistan’s true rockstar. His first song for karachi Kings is still the best tho.

The song has grown on me. It's not your typical catchy jingle which is a hit on the first listen but it's more like an anthem which I think is nice change.

Ali Zafar did a good job with the couple that he sang but I like that they tried something different this time. Also, even if this wasn't a resounding hit, it'll be pretty hard to beat Fawad's Josh Dekha De Tu which was utterly trash!

The video is eh, but the song will grow on people like all the others did. The only part that's important at the end of the day is the jingle and the chorus.

I liked the song, music is pretty good but video could have been better. Probably they should have added some more clips of cricket.

Worst then PSL 5 original song...

I'm not into music but this song is terrible. Flaky lyrics, subpar voice, and a bang average melody. The way it has been marketed however is a prime example of excellence and something that PCB should learn from.

Next year PCB should arrange a competition and take entries and select one based on popular vote as the PSL anthem. The song competition can start after the draft and create the hype of the tournament.

Fans became the stakeholders of this song throughout the creation of the song and the video hence why they'll have a bias towards it. Ali Zafar did market it very well and this approach could be taken to many businesses to get the potential consumers involved, to make them feel part of the product even if their input meant nothing. Franchise owners can take a similar approach to the design of their kits.

Yea, Ali Zafar is a smart man. He insulated himself from criticism very well here.

This song has all the ingredients to feature in south indian masala movies. PSL is for entertainment but sadly its not a masala movie.

The PSL theme song Tayyar hain also has all the ingredients to be in a documentary on horses.

Ali Zafar version is'nt great but its a valuable effort as its made in 6 days , without sponsorship and support from PCB.
