I'm not quite surprised.

Azhar is considered a batting strokes wonder and he could've invented that shot.

Many players have played the helicopter shot over the years. Especially while trying to slog in the death overs. Dhoni just played it more often than others.

Azhar was a class act of 90s. unfortunately he was dragged in controversies..
he is a master batsmen who can be a very good batting coach/ consultant.

He was a very shady individual. Probably the ring leader of all the shenanigans that occurred during that decade.

NO, in that regard, it was discovered by Gunddappa Vishanath. Or we can say, bottom hand flicks were introduced by KS Ranjit Singh, 125 years back.

Cricket is a traditional English game, where the batting fundamentals were established as a top had & top elbow game. Asians are born with natural crafty wrists - few like MS, Azhar, Zaheer, Anwar, VVS, Sanga were born with steels to complement that craft - helicopter shot is just one version of perfectly times wristy flicks, which instead of cutting grass, cuts air. Sometimes in late 70s, Zaheer once flicked Roberts (?), out of Gloster ground with his top hand losing grip.

The whole judicial system is corrupt in India, from top to bottom.

As for the BCCI - is this even a question?

bhai i m from India as well... aisa bhi nahi ki sab hi corrupt hai. Azhar did it or not I dont knw.. But he is still considered as a master class batsmen..

This is a shot that is play by many batsmen. Only difference is that indians made this shot as if it some thing extraordinary.

It clearly isnt. The shot is played by getting behind the ball and lofting your bat. Misbah does it and many others aswell.

Only thing dhoni does is he adds a finish touch of revolving the bat in the air, which basically does not do anythung to to the ball

Many batsman have played it before. Dhoni popularised it just like Dilshan with the scoop and so will always be credited with it.

So. I remember One Douglas Marillier of zimbawawe make life hell of McGrath by shot which later known as Dilscoop. It was perfected by Ashraful who won a WC match against South Africa playing dilscoop again and again. But Dilshan perfected and popularize the shot. So it does not matter whether Vishi or Azzu or Ranjitsinji invented Helicopter shot, it was Dhoni who perfected and popularize it. So credit should be given to him

Not hard to spot the objective of the post. :batman:

Kya bhai, do the rest of them play it like a toy helicopter? Jk

Azhar's was like partial helicoptor.

MSD's bat has that full motion while Azhar's looks more like a flick.

MSD is only credited with it because he popularized it. I have seen some players play similar shot before. Cannot recollect any names though of the top of my head.

MSD himself credits that shot to his friend who taught him. So MSD is not the inventor of that shot.

There was a post like this some time back where a video of Sachin playing the shot and then proclaiming that he invented the shot. Always funny to see posts like this. Cricket has been played for centuries and this helicopter shot was probably played hundreds of people even before cricket started being televised.

Dhoni gets credited with the shot because he's the one who's played the shot the most number of times and is probably the only one able to execute it with as much power and flamboyance. He's mastered it so to speak and thus has it credited to him.

DilScoop is different from Marillier Shot.

The reason why Dhoni's helicopter shot became famous was because he was hitting yorkers from fast bowlers for 6 which is pretty rare phenomenon......Everyone knows Marillier and Ashraful played the Dilscoop before Dilshan ever did.....in fact Marillier did it a couple of times against top bowlers like McGrath and Zaheer Khan but it became "Dilscoop" because Dilshan was doing that in a world cup and more consistently in every game.

May not be exactly the Helicopter shot but first time I saw the theory of Helicopter 6 hitting was from Ajay Jadeja in that WC QF against Waqar Younis.....he was hitting inswinging yorkers for 6...in theory that was helicopter hitting as well.

How many times in world cricket before 2000's have you seen yorkers bowled over 135,being smacked for 6 with the flick of wrists?

Knew exactly what shot it was going to be before I opened the thread.

Third shot of this phainty Azharuddin handed out to Klusener and the Saffers.

He smashed Klusener 1,4,4,4,4,4 on Zulus first over on his debut match. What an introduction to test cricket for Lance Klusener

Flamingo shots are worth watching, very rear to see

KP has probably invented it;
