Team India were denied a review in the third and final T20I against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday after the third umpire deemed that captain Virat Kohli was too late in signalling for DRS. Matthew Wade was trapped LBW by left-arm pacer T Natrajan but managed to survive as Kohli and India were too late to appeal for DRS.

The incident happened on the 4th ball of the 11th over of Australia's innings at the SCG. A seam delivery from Natarajan hit Wade plumb on the pads as the left-hander missed his flick. While the timer didn't show up on the screen, Kohli took his time before signalling wicket-keeper KL Rahul to go for DRS.

While India were asking for the review, a replay was playing on the big screen which showed Wade was clearly out as the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps. The third umpire thus deemed the review appeal from India 'null and void' as it came late and possibly after referring the replays on the big screen at the stadium.

Kohli was seen fuming as he stormed to the on-field umpires and was explained about the third umpire's call to disallow India's DRS appeal despite the batsman clearly out. However, Wade got away with it eventually as the replays had started on the big screen before India's DRS signal. The third umpire's contentious decision raised eyebrows as fans and experts shared their two cents on the incident.

India wanted to review this

The third umpire said no because replays had already been shown on the big screen

Wade was batting on 51 off 36 balls when the DRS call against him was deemed null and void by the third umpire. The left-hander went on to score 80 runs off 53 balls to combine with Glenn Maxwell (54 off 36) and propel Australia to a strong total of 186/5 on the board in 20 overs. Washington Sundar was the pick of the bowlers for India with his effective spell of 2/34 in his 4 overs.

They tried to cheat again, didn’t work this time

Didn't see him fuming to be honest. But it was another try to cheat from him and Indian team; nothing surprises me anymore from them.

The real question is - did the replay start on the big screen before the DRS time was up or not?

If yes, Kohli and India have the right to take the review. It is not their problem if the replay showed up too early.

If no, then Kohli and India are wrong here because when DRS time is up, it is over.

Ah yes, this form of cheating can happen as long as their is a ‘misunderstanding’.

It is not cheating if the DRS time wasn’t over. As I said, it is not India’s problem if the technical staff was in too much of a rush to show the replay.

But if the DRS time was over already, then India have no right to complain.

Wow. See the headline. First you cheat and then do drama. What the hell he thinks of himself. He is not greater than the game. Just because Aussies were mean in past doesn't mean you get a free license to cheat to teach them a lesson. Should be fined for this behavior of influencing the umpires. He should understand not everyone is Anil Kumble.

Lol is this the same Virat Kohli who accused Steve Smith of cheating for doing something similar.

If the DRS timer was not up this is not cheating.

The took the review after 18 seconds. The replay came up after the time was up.

Then in that case Kohli and India were wrong. See it is not hard to call a spade a spade as long as there is no ambiguity, but some people will blame Kohli and India without looking into the controversy first.

What Mamoon is saying is correct but as usual people are quick to bash him rather than thinking rationally. If replays start before 15 sec DRS time, its not a Kohli's fault. He has every right to ask for review in the stipulated time frame. The blame lies on broadcaster if they have shown the replay on the big screen before DRS time got over.

He went to take review after the time is up and that too after seeing the replay on big screen. Then he has the audacity to argue with umpires even when they explain calmly to him. He is cheater since he thought the umpires may give in and thinks he can intimidate everyone into submission like Kumble. Pathetic person.

If he went for a review after the time was up then he was wrong. However, going for a review after watching the replay is not a problem as long as the time is not up.

I will repeat again - if the technical team presses the replay button while DRS timer is not up, it is not the fielding team’s problem.

There was another incident which will get brushed under the carpet here but deserves a mention. Its deceitful tactics from Kohli. In the last few overs Maxwell reverse swept and Thakur (Not sure the bowler) appealed for caught behind. Kohli was asking bowler and Kl Rahul from boundary about it and finally he went for review in half-hearted way. Even the commie Mcgrath thought he is doing it for the crowd. Now lets say it was crucial decision and didn't go in India's way Kohli would argue he did it for fun or something and he wants the review back. If you are calling for review call it cleanly rather than in a shady way

No one will talk about clear wides not given by umpires?

Lol. Relax ..You're clearly clutching at straws here. :))

In light of the information provided, Kohli asked for a review 2 seconds after the 15 second time limit had expired.

The only person at fault here is the umpire who didnt decline his request to review straight away due to time outage.

They were wrong in any case, because you are allowed just 15 seconds to take the review and Kohli signaled it 17 seconds later.

Yes. When Maxwell was batting, Shardul bowled a clear wide but umpire didnt give it because Maxwell had shuffled across. But the ball was so wide that it should have been called a wide.

It wasn’t smiths fault either than looking towards the dressing room because the umpire didn’t tell him he couldn’t do that. Do you realize how ******** you sound right now like please stop sucking up to India so much they won’t accept you adnan Sami

Mate, you aren't make any sense. I have to agree with Mamoon here. If we follow what you said then broadcasters can tactically use the replay to favour the home team at crucial moments. You might be gloating now as it's against India but would be fuming when someone like Babar Azam can't review if he has been given out incorrectly in a world cup final and replay has been played before he can take the DRS call for the review.

They were wrong in any case, because you are allowed just 15 seconds to take the review and Kohli signaled it 17 seconds later.

And this makes far more sense than 'you can't review because the replay is shown'.

Yes over turning a wrong decision is what cheating is. Its not our goal to get the decisions right, its our goal to argue about technicalities

That was as plumb as they come

Why do we make an issue out of absolutely nothing?

It's the job of the umpire to tell the captain that the DRS timer is out and the guy with the tv can't help. The umpires didn't seem to have a clue about it and they allowed it.

And once they've done this - Kohli is totally justified to be bothered on why the whole process was not followed up (by the way a bit of an overstatement to call a shake of a head as 'fuming')

It was quite clear that umpires were biased today, it was quite evident towards the end when they weren't even calling the balls that were wider than the outer line. Even Aussie commentators were shocked. That said, Australia had a better game today and would have won - and it was a dead rubber so relax.

The wide guidelines are just that, guidelines. Kohli stepped across his stumps by a significant distance therefore allowing the bowler to bowl further outside the off stump that he previously would have.

I don't have a problem with that if they were consistent. The difference in their standard was pretty big between two innings. And just on that, Kohli didn't step out by much, the ball was way out. Even Andrew Tye towards the end acknowledged that it went his way.

I feel that some of the people here are so triggered by Mamoon that as soon as they see his post, they jump on it and start calling him names.

It should be a very noncontroversial opinion that if he asked for a review within the limit, then it shouldn't matter that a replay was shown.

In any case, it wasn't a big deal. He took a review and the umpires went towards him to explain why he couldn't take it. That was basically it.

That doesn't necessarily show bias. It's just the nature of these decisions and the small margins. Sometimes they can go either way and are decided by the umpires instincts, which could be wrong. They're not machines. People should stop looking for biases and conspiracy theories everywhere.

Pakistanis outraging over a non issue as Indian and Australian team dont seem to having any problems.

After Bcci trashed PCB in the court, all our padosi friends can do is name call India online as there is nothing else they can do.

Kohli be like: kya karu oh ladies main hoo cheating se majboor

kohil is hilarious.

But joking aside this India team has to try and stop cheating.

The DRS rule explicitly states that signals from dressing room must not be given.

As far as I know, there is no rule that explicitly states that you are not allowed to take a review even if you have time left just because some idiot in the technical room pressed the “show replay” button earlier than he should have.

Slightly off-topic, but how the heck do England use coded signals then?

Kohli himself realized after umpires explanation why he couldn't take it.
Some posters are doing disco dance for nothing.:rp
Nobody is doing disco dance. If any Pakistani player did this they prob would’ve gotten more backlash.

Non issue. Review was taken after 17-18 seconds and was invalid. The replay however began to be shown at around 12 seconds though which is a big mistake from the broadcaster. Not the fielding team's fault if the replay is shown early though.

The source of the article in post #1 is from which country? [thora dimagh lagayain pls]

People who bashes Kohli here missing keyword in the OP. How does he know the time is up or not if it's not showing on the screen..? Does he need to count on the seconds too?

No it is in the yt u can watch, he saw the replay in big screen and then went for DRS,

Even then it's not his mistake that they didn't show counter on the screen.. Look like people here likes to bash Kohli here for nothing..

Kohli should be ashamed of himself. What a huge crime to try and review an umpire's call 2 seconds after the timer that he is completely unaware of.....

This matter should be investigated by the ICC anti corruption unit and Kohli, the cheat should be put behind bars.

He should learn from Pakistani cricketers on how to play the game fairly & honestly and how not to end up disgracing the whole nation by getting himself jailed.

First time such a miss has happened by a broadcaster. Not a big deal.

However over enthusiastic broadcasters would be well advised not to jump the gun ...this could prove costly in a marque event like a world cup.

Asking review looking at replay is bigger crime..Kohli is a CHEATER. Just have a look at the overreaction here someone will think Kohli is involved in some spot fixing scandal.

Kohli explaining the issue:

This issue all could have been avoided had the reply not been shown on the big screen during the timeframe to take DRS.

Surely the replay shouldn't be shown on the big screen so quickly?

Well Kohli and his teammates never appealed the decision in the first place, I was looking at the highlights the bowler and the wicket keeper just ignored the delivery. If their keeper was more aware they could've caught that. No point blaming it on the referee or television, you snooze you lose.

I mean half their side wasn't even playing seriously in the first place, the amount of dropped catches and misfieldings that happened during the game.

Its clear they made the decision after seeing the replay, easier to do that when you're not really focusing on the delivery bowled and not appealing in the first place.

Commentators were saying the timer did not show up on the big screen. If that is case kohli would have no idea of 15 sec time elapsing. But no team is talking about it later, it was done and dusted there itself.. so why are you all cribbing now?

Before I watched the clip, I felt that the Indians were well within their right to complain. However, once I saw the clip, it was evident that they had no intention of reviewing that decision until the replay was shown. The bowler was walking back to his mark and the the keeper back to his. As soon as they saw the replay, the started to converge and ask if they could review.

This was a very cheap move by the Indians and made them look silly. They should've known better.

The replay was well after the 15 seconds allowed, Fox Cricket put a timer on it.

Is Kohli lying then about the replay being shown within 15 seconds?

Bad mistake by the TV guys. How many teams would see the replay coming on the screen when deliberating an LBW review and all instinctively look away because they are so morally pure? Human nature.
