Dumbest shot ever.

That wouldn't be an exaggeration like your last thread title.

All eleven players were in the inner circle and Gabriel realised that he would be caught if he even touched the ball.

No idea. Feel sorry for Chase. But i'm glad that he did it, think chase would have seen out the last over almost certainly.

Gabriel channeled his Inner Afridi to give Misbah the perfect send off

Going for the big shot was the easier route. Most No.11's would have done the same.

He didn't deserve to save the match - if he was not out for that Caught Behind, then he should have been out on that given bad-pad.

You gotta feel sorry for Roston Chase. He would have just played the innings of his lifetime if not for that shot by Gabriel.

It was funny as hell whatever it was ..

Totally ruined all the hardwork done by Chase .

In the esoteric world angels appear through rainbows to remove curses and spells

Angel Gabriel saw the rainbow and did what angels were supposed to do :)

The dumbest shot ever.

Last ball he had to play a dot and the series was a draw.

I don't even want to imagine what would happen to a pak player if the situations were reversed

Oh boy. Cricket is a cruel cruel mistress.

What a great game this has been past 2 hours.

Reminded of Wes Hall's comments years ago: "Pressure is what turns a rock into a diamond, but it can turn it into dust."

i was exactly feeling the same...how can am umpire be so biased..

Shannon probably thought the higher he hits the ball - he would be awarded 101 runs to win the match! :afridi

Gabriel got a divine message to play that shot lol..

It's called a Tail Enders leg side hoick.

As Geoff Boycott would say these Tail Enders can not resist a cow lash sooner or later. For Pak it came at the right time.

That was "modern" "aggressive" cricketers for you, can't turn down the chance to score at 4 RPO. shaz619

He is Afridi of West Indies. No matter what your team is losing or winning, I will hit my team can go to hell :))

Gabrial's eyes lit up when he saw the ball outside the off stump.... he thought its an easy 4 as all the fielders were round the bat....

If I was the west indian captain I would've slapped Gabriel so hard that his face fell off his body... And I'll make sure as long as I am the captain Gabriel never plays a single game again in this life..

But as a Pakistani thanks Gabriel it's time for bhangra..

I don't see what he did wrong, the fielders were in and he was trying to up the run rate.

He was just a bit unlucky but it was good, positive, modern cricket imo.

I think Gabriel picked up the googly and tried to hit it out because all the fielders were surrounding him.

Gabriel was paying the ultimate tribute to Misbah when facing a spinner.

Tuk tuk tuk tuk tuk BOOM

:salute

Pressure + Tail Enders itch to hit big. Before that he was playing quite well. Especially he was managing Yasir very well.

Thankfully he went for that hit :)

We Pakistanis should be thankful to Gabriel for all our lives..
Giay hazaron sal Gabriel bhai

I think with all the fielders around the bat Gabriel thought that by giving it the full slog it will fly away even if he only top edged it, whereas if he tried to prod and defend there was more chance of being caught by the ring of fielders.

80% of the forum probably agreed with his choice of his shot.

The ball was way outside the off stump and he did not have to play.

But, he is my favorite batsman now, played a "memorable" inning.

lol chill he is no.11 for a reason.
and captain does not have that much of authority as you are thinking.

I think, he lost a he ball in air.

All 9 fielders were crowding him & once that flighted ball went over eye line, he got panicked - decided to clear the inner field. Idea wasn't bad actually, because a forward push almost certainly would have ended at some palm, while he could have been bowled as well missing line. A top edge certainly would have dropped at no mans land.

I think, he did read the ball that it's not an away going turner, rather it was coming in, and took a break g swing along the line - unfortunately got the bottom edge. It's just unfortunate - he did exceptionally well to survive almost 25 balls.

You know what i hate rhe most, the people who were critisizing misbahs slow batting from day 1 calling it the worst test they ever saw how the past use to score 6 sixes of 6 balls, now even they are enjoying this win

The ones who argued for Pakistan to chase 200 runs after Tea on Day 5 at Hamilton, with the resultant 9 wickets snatching defeat from the jaws of a draw?

Gabriel handed over series to Pakistan. Worst shot even for a number eleven considering that was the last ball he needed to face. Brainfade.

Major lets be honest scoring 1 off 51 was pathetic. Chase was still scoring at a 60 S/R on Day 5. Misbah and Azhar's scoring rate was too slow on Day 3 especially. 50 runs in a session against that bowling attack is just poor cricket. Thankfully Gabriel has spared our blushes with that brainfade.

But to bat for 2 days and not even get 400 is poor batting. Luckily WI are a novice team if it was against a better quality team we would have lost that game.

No one is saying we want T20 style in Tests but a healthy balance between S/R.

You know why we won the test? Not because of yasirs last wicket, we won this match only due to the first innings

After what happened in the second test, pakistan needed to have a score of 400 first up, because even if pakistan collapsed in the second inngings we would still have a lead to defend.

In uae, west indies, india, we have seen time and time again that matches are won on the last 2 days, irrespect of how slow your bat on the first two.

Misbahs aim was simple. Get to the 400 mark, because that 400 would lay the foundation of the entire match for pakistan. It did not matter how this 400 was suppose to be achieved.

You go on about 1(51) but you do not bother to go on about the score that misbah did put after that.
Bhai this is test cricket. You dont get 400 by going 3 an over on a slow wicmet with a slow out field.

Pakistan wasnt able to get to the 400 mark but had got good runs.

And then what happened in the 3rd innings we all know. Pkaistan collapsed, but thankfully misbah had laid the foundation of pakistan, thus eveb after 70 for 6 we needed only to get till 120(250 target) to be at the safe side atleast. Thankfully we racked uptil the 300th mark. Declared on time and picked the first wicket on time.

Day5 cricket is all about having temperment and staying out there and survive what comes at you. Pakistan had the upper hand in the last innings, west indies were the one who were in pressure.

While one end gave us wickets, chase absorbed everything. We gave him slow ball, yorkers, cutters, inswing, reverse swing, bouncers, and yet he survived all that. He got hit plenty of times but he absorbed it. As he did his job, all other players gave him a supporting role.

Even when last 15 overs were left(the last hour) pakistan had the upper habd. Even though 10 over partnerships were being dragged out by the tailenders, 1 end was opened for wickets.
Game changed when after 6 deliveries yasir couldnt get gabriel out. Luckily he got another shot, and again he didnt bowl a googly.

Luckily on the last ball as the captain again tweaked the field, the batsmen just went for a blindless slog to throw away his wicket.

We won, but it was because of the earlier foundation laid. That foundation forced west indies to survive the final 90 overs on a day 5 wicket

Pakistan has won that's why you are able to try to defend Misbah's game. But actually there should be no logic behind Misbah's 1 off 51.

Major if we had showed a lil more intent we would have wrapped this game up a lot easier and quicker. The 1 off 51 is indefensible as is scoring just 50 runs in a session. No pitch is that slow that u can justify that RR. Luckily its because of Gabriels brainfade we won. Yes that 1st innings gave us a foundation but still it was way too slow. These tactics are just about passable against WI but against better teams we would have lost.

Its all karma he nicked it earlier to Hassan Ali, lack of hot spot could have costed us the series

Pressure of the Situation. Shannon Gabriel Tried to have a hard swing because everyone was standing too close. and he did not know how to get the bat out of the way (he is a #11 after all). Unluckily for him the ball deflected on to stumps. he could have raised his bat to let the ball thru but then the variable bounce was in his mind.

Still can't help laughing when watching that recording!

(See Post #1)

One of my favourite test matches of all time. Can remember watching the whole last day with my dad. When Gabriel was out, we went crazy!!!!

That was like a UAE Test - first four days were slow paced before a crazy fifth day.

It finished around 11pm UK time and was so full of adrenaline I couldn't sleep for another few hours.

Was an underrated Test series and a great send off for Younis and Misbah. Then we had CT17 a month later. Great summer.

BOWLED HIMMMM, WHY DID HE DO THATTT!? :))

Top 5 favourite Pak test moments for me!
