This has to be the oddest situation.

Fawad Alam took a review with Babar's help in a situation where he looked gone but...

When it came to Mohammad Rizwan, the review was not taken, especially when it was clear that these 2 were the last recognized pair.

I don't blame Rizwan for this. Always hard as a batsman in real time to judge when the ball is coming down at 90mph. Its on Babar there. As a captain even if he suspected it was plumb you have to look at the situation and know that there isn't much batting to come.

Rizwan should have used it. Having said that rizwan needs to stop clowning around.

The PCB needs to have a word with Rizwan to do away with the nice guy antics and tell him to be more ruthless for Pakistans sake

It was the last review and the captain was batting at the other end. He couldn't see the impact obviously so it was Babar's call in the end

Shocking from both Babar and Rizwan.

Rizwan should have known that he was batting on off stump and the impact could have been potentially outside the line plus their was no harm in going for it either.

Babar should have been on insistent on Rizwan taking the review considering he had a clear view of where the ball hit him.

Some blame also goes to Imam and Fawad who both wasted reviews on two straight forward decisions which would have also put some doubt into any batsmen coming in next.

I think ppl are being a bit harsh on Rizwan here.

It looked out in full speed and 2 reviews were already burned, you need the last review for Babar. Can't fault Babar or Rizwan here.

Keyboard experts are gonna bash this.....

In real time its difficult to judge where the ball is pitching in line or not, and 90percent of the cases its umpires call

It's 100% Babar's fault, you can't blame Rizwan, it looked not out in real time too, even the commentator was wondering why they haven't taken the review.

Pakistan had one review left. So, they probably didn't want to burn it. That looked out with the naked eyes.

Babar was sleeping.

It was his responsbility to advise Rizwan for the review.

Because he wants to look different from others ( Fawad and Imam). He his to carry his good and honest boy image.

Rizwan said it hit pad first and asked Babar whether it was outside the line or sliding down, Babar shook his head and said it was plumb.

The desperation to keep Fawad's place in the side was palpable.

I don't get this at all.

He is one of your main batters and even if he thinks he is out, as the skipper you overrule him and say get it reviewed, there may be a chance that you were not out.

Really, really poor leadership that.

Maybe rizwan was influenced by the fact they had only one review left

If the other reviews werent wasted maybe rizwan would have taken it. Why did fawad and imam review straightforward decisions and why did the captain at the other end allow it ? Dont they know where their stumps are or if they edged the ball

Babar was at the other end for all the reviews and the wrong decision was made each time In the end again it all comes down to strong leadership and strategy which seems to be lacking

Poor from Babar. He has full view of this and tells him that he is plumb.

Not much you can do. He needs to be more selfish and just go for it himself. Trying to conserve the review for Babar was sheer stupidity

But hardly any batting was left after Rizwan.

No point saving reviews for the likes of Shaheen or Sajid or Naseem.

Feeling bad for Rizwan. I did not know this was how he got out

Rizwan should have known. Don’t blame Babar. Instead of clowning around and smiling the whole time he should pay more attention to the game.

Babar was nodding that he was OUT the moment Rizwan looked at Babar; Many says Babar was saving review for himself

He ran away. He knew he had no chance against Starc and Cummins anyways. He isn’t built to play proper bowling

True ; he is flat track bully and if opposition is Zim, WI, SL, BD
But I respect him because he is a very good wicketkeeper who can bat well; Ad he is much better batsman than likes of Imam, Azhar, Fawad, etc.

He always look like he will get out ; but he is doing his best and at least produced some match winning performances for us.. Unlike Azhar, Imam (who have been playing for ages and I dont recall if they have won us any match)

Stupidity of Imam and Fawad lead to this;
How can batsman review when he knows he has nicked it? And how can a batsman review when he is standing dead front of wickets with bat non where near?

Against Australia, SA, NZ and England he averages more then the other countries but what do you expect from a Sarfraz fan. Stop spreading lies.

Bet you any money if it was Babar at strikers end and the same happened, Babar would have definitely reviewed.

Really disappointing to see Babar not advise Rizwan to take the review.

What's the point leaving the review for Babar if he is going to bat with tail.

Babar needed review for himself after fawad wasted it. Bit selfish from him.

Really, really poor leadership that.

Not just poor leadership, the coaching staff and perhaps the whole setup is poor.

It did look out in real time. Also given that it was a yorker length ball, one could understand why Babar would think it was out. But making the decision on what had just happened is only a part of the decision making process on DRS.

It should have been reviewed based on the state of the game at that time and also that Rizwan was for all purposes the last recognized batsman. But this should have been discussed in team meetings the previous night, 5th day morning. Also should have been reinforced to Rizwan when he walked out to bat and communicated to Babar. But that is not what happened. Only the ball bowled was taken into consideration.

Shows a total lack of planning, foresight on the coaches and the leadership team as a whole.

Rizwan knew sooner or later he will go Aus pacers were just too much for them completely outplayed

Rizwan knew sooner or later he will go Aus pacers were just too much for them completely outplayed

Knowing Rizwan, that was NOT the case. If there is one person in this side who cannot be accused of running away from fight, that is Rizwan.

As Australia took the Benaud-Qadir trophy back to its dressing room on Friday, Pakistan was left pondering the massive ‘what if’ moment that could have swung its fortunes.

Australia long looked in the ascendancy on day five of the third Test and was deserved winners of the series, but Pakistan committed a bizarre error that ultimately made the match look more one-sided than it was.

Pakistan was 4-167 when Mohammad Rizwan was struck on the toe by a Pat Cummins yorker, and umpire Aleem Dar's finger went up.

Rizwan walked down the pitch and looked at his captain, Babar Azam, hoping for the nod to go upstairs in a bid to save his wicket.

Only the nod never came.

Rizwan even double checked, but Babar shook his head and waved him away to protect the review.

It proved to be a howler of a decision because Rizwan was struck well outside of off-stump, and the decision would have been overturned.

Of course, Pakistan still faced a big uphill climb to either draw or win the series in Lahore.

But Rizwan and Babar formed Pakistan’s final batting partnership before the tailenders, while the former had already frustrated Australia once this series with his unbeaten 104 in Karachi.

“I found that a little bit bizarre,” former Pakistan international Urooj Mumtaz said in commentary. “That was the last batting pair and I just felt Babar would have had a really good view, it just made sense to go up (and review).

“I thought Babar had the better view. You could see glimpses of the leg stump behind Rizwan.”

Commentator Mike Haysman was of a similar opinion, saying: “Why didn’t Babar get more involved there and say ‘you’ve got to look at this?’. Surely that’s the reason you chat, surely they had to go upstairs.”

The root of Babar’s gun-shyness is likely within what happened just two overs earlier.

Babar gave the green light for Fawad Alam to review his own LBW to Cummins and, despite the batter’s visible anger, ball-tracking showed he was plumb.

Simon Katich said that as a result, Babar likely became hesitant to quickly risk another review.

“I think it was the review before that potentially cost Pakistan,” Katich said. “They should never have reviewed the previous LBW — it looked absolutely plumb on the back leg.”

With the tail exposed, Pakistan went on to lose its final five wickets for just 68 runs, falling 115 runs short of Australia.

Rizwan is one of the worst when it comes to reviews, everyone knows that he takes stupid reviews when behind the stumps. The same ideology applied while batting too.

Honestly, I thought we had a gem in Rizwan, someone who always finds a way out.

Not only does he find a way out but he's also become a huge asset to Pakistani cricket with consistent performances and will likely be in the ATG tier if he continues at this pace.

With that said, his MOST RECENT performances and antics are laughable, it's sad to see so many calling for his head but at the same time he deserves it.

Rizwan is certainly not perfect and has a long ways to go, as of a few months ago I honestly thought he was near perfection already but he's definitely been doing a great job proving me wrong with his most recent below par performances and mediocrity, needs to get back at it real quick.

Agree.

Skipper was stood at the other end, there was absolutely no excuse not to review.

That was the most crucial wkt and they did not take the review...amazing.

It hit the toe first i think, and in real time its hard to tell if it inline with stumps, because Rizwan falls over while playing the shot as usual and is all over the crease..

Very hard for babar to say thats not out and go for review, secondly if Rizwan is convinced that it hit the toe first then obviously it becomes difficult to go against umpires call, because all it needs to hit the stumps.. though the impact is outside , i still think ball tracking will crash it into middle and off stump..
