On Monday, Pakistan cricket team presented Australian cricketers with Christmas gifts.

The move was widely appreciated by many but Kerry O’Keefe is not happy with this as he said on TV:

"This Test series is being played in the best of spirits. You’re not going to beat Australia playing in the best of spirits. Christmas Presents yesterday. Would Sourav Ganguly have arrived with Christmas presents for Steve Waugh? No. You’ve got to play feisty against the Aussies. You have to have some spite. This is too pleasant"

I don't think this gesture has anything to do with the cricket being played. Unrelated issues.

Moreover Ganguly was up against an Aussie side full of rowdies, sledgers, unfriendly guys, maybe some of them (read about Lehmann's rants against Lankans) even having racist thoughts or an air of superiority. Those Aussies hardly mingled with opponents and were hostile especially against SC sides, wanted to mentally disintegrate everyone in their path.

Cummins' Australia is full of gentlemen, pleasant people who are always eager to be friendly with their opponents. They give their best and win more often than not, but no hostility against opponents. I won't blame Pakistan if they are being nice with nice guys.

Well , they probably figured out that they have no chance to win the series , so why not win some Aussie hearts and maybe some spirit of cricket awards ?
Exactly. Pakistan have no chance being the rowdy bully boys who take it to the Aussies.

You give gifts on Christmas day and then open the boxing day with half volleys

Very funny from O'keefe :ROFLMAO:

O’keefe is known as Skulls?

I wouldn’t doubt it, the guy seems to be hollow in the head

I have a question Skulls,

Would Usman Khawaja have any chance to represent Australia as a batsman during the Waugh-Ponting-Clarke era?

Would Khawaja have the guts to use his platform for political messaging during their era if he ever played under them?

Ganguly had a team that can take on Unbeatable Aussie of 2000 in Australia. From Ganguly era indian team is very different when come to take on Rowdy teams .

Which captain do you think Khawaja debuted under?

Times have changed in cricket. It's a lot more friendly all round. Pakistan has had to take this to another extreme though, due to India's attempted isolation policy. They hope that by being the nice guys teams will tour despite Indian pressure.

Yep. We can’t win hearts with Shaheen bowling 132km/h thunderbolts and then staring down the batsman on our way to another 3-0 whitewash.

Pakistan also can ill afford to do nothing. Nobody wants to tour us and our biggest enemy runs the game.

They need to do something and being the wholesome, nice guys of cricket is one of the few plausible options they have right now.

Its very difficult to be aggressive & in your face when your premier pace bowlers are delivering 130 kph pies to the Aussie batters

Imagine Shaheen Shah staring back to Warner & then following up with a gentle long hop which gets smashed to the fence. It will be massive egg on his face moment. So he will always try to avoid getting into any argy bargy

With all due respect to Ganguly - all his antics wud have looked foolish if VVS Laxman & Dravid did not produce that once-in-a-lifetime partnership at the Eden Gardens ! And Laxman & Dravid did not ever lose their cool & get into any argy bargy with the Aussies. They just calmly batted on and on and ground the Aussies to dust

Better response wud be to play hard & make the series competitive. Then Australia wud invite Pakistan more often

Being nice & well mannered does no favors. Aussies don't care about how you behave. What matters here is how you compete. And the current level of performance wud do Pakistan no favors & if anything will strengthen Ian Chappel's statement that Pakistan should not be invited in future

I agree.

Steve Waugh's Australia was nasty. Cummin's Australia is pretty gentleman-ish.

That probably plays a factor.

Also, cricket in general has changed a lot. There's less sledging nowadays.

Pakistan do it with Indian players as well though, like Shaheen Afridi giving gifts to Jasprit Bumrah

It's the same intended effect. They are trying to ( or perhaps they are really) present a good guy image.

I don't really mind it but I don't think it has the PR effect that the social media guys desire either.

Shaheen did go after Labuschagne...

That’s great. What do you do when you have a team that can’t compete with Aus in Aus even in their wildest dreams?

Trying to fight a battle you can’t win is generally not a good idea.

Pakistan can try to play hard. They can send down some 130km bouncers, stare at the batsmen, try and throw down the stumps. Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique can try and advance down the wicket to Cummins and Starc and smash them for sixes.

The only outcome would be that we’d be laughed out of Australia.

When we get a better team, maybe. With our current lot we’d just humiliate ourselves.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Its a non-issue. Players are humans. They can be nice before and after the match. What matters is the effort and attitude during the match.

and hope that the aussies would throw a bone at the end. ;)

u cant make up for a lack of skills with being gritty and in your face, it would just look silly. if you have the skills then u can run your mouth.

This is rubbish. NZ have shown being nice doesn't mean you can't fight.

Pakistan have let themselves down because they were subpar on the field and not because they were nice with their opponents.

There is more than one way to play cricket.

Pakistan cricket team has always been a trendsetter. I remember when the Pakistan cricket team visited the dressing room of the Namibia Cricket team to appreciate them for putting up a good fight during the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The Indian cricket team visited the Scotland team's dressing room, following this trend set by the Pakistani team. Now, the Pakistan cricket team has started the trend of giving Christmas gifts, so it's possible that the Indian cricket team will copy this trend too.

Watching Babar's capitulation at the crease makes you wonder what he is doing on this tour? Deliver Xmas presents or do anything of note?

lol so cringey this.

Reminds me of that photo last year where Afridi gifted Bumrah a box of pampers a week after his child was born.

Should not be doing this during or before a test series Would Australia give Pakistani Eid presents proberly No.

A remnant of the Misbah era. Pakistan turned team soft after he came in to the lead side.

We've become a team of softies.

Gone are the days of snarling fast bowlers and batters who weren't scared to take on and get in the faces of the opposition bowlers.

These days, it's all smiles and drama for social media.

Yes we saw what some of the raw and tough Pakistan team members did in 2010 and how our reputation was changed by Misbah.

No need to bring in Misbah into this.

Come on Aussies...we showered you and your family with gifts and candies...now please return the favor by letting us win just one Test match.

New era, new tactics...just kidding!

Come on guys, it’s a minor gesture on a special occasion.

It’s not like they were handing over a full plate of Biryani, if that was the case then I’d be concerned! the boys would never let go of a proper Karachi Qorma Biryani!!

It's not just about the Christmas gifts though is it.

Our players have become fanboys, when in the past the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan, Shoaib Akhtar, Javed Miandad etc would be snarling at the opposition.

Street fighters have been replaced by softies.

Saj in his latest video:

"Get stuck into the opposition - stop being so soft, stop being too friendly with opponents"

Where has the aggression gone from the Pakistan cricket team?
Are Pakistani cricketers too soft and friendly with the opposition?
The no-fear attitude seems to have disappeared from Pakistani players.Gifts to the opposition, requests for signed shirts - whatever next?
Get in the faces of the opposition, you are there to win cricket matchesIt's not a popularity contest and it's not about the Spirit of Cricket

Today joking around with Mitch Marsh while he is smashing / taking the game away from you!
I am not saying they should start sledging or getting rude, but just mind your own business.

Someone really needs to tell them to change this.
