I was pretty happy with how he helped Azhar in England, and was working with the bowlers to strengthen the tail too, with Yasir, Shaheen, Abbas all looking marginally better than before. He’s mentioned in interviews that he draws a lot of inspiration from Bob Woolmer in being as much of a father figure and friend to his players as a coach. Not a bad role model to have.

Today, the PCB released a clip of him coaching in New Zealand — personally, I’m loving it!

He is a great mentor for youngters. Too many of our youngsters are bottom handed, rarely use top hand hence can't access all sides of the ground. It is simple by YK but effectve

I always liked the way he handled youngsters around him since his cricketing days. He has his shortcomings and he sometimes can allow emotions to come into play but, with youngsters that is something which i think doesn’t happen as he really tries to make them feel comfortable and confident. In 2009 world T20, he handled debutants like Amir and Shahzaib extremely well.

In terms of his coaching performances we will have to see much more. While he wasn’t technically extraordinary but, his approach towards the game and overall intent along with the good understanding of his limitations were really impressive and in international cricket that makes a bigger difference than many other aspects. Hopefully he can develop the young batsmen like Haider and Abdullah well for Pakistan.

Seems he is very well respected in dressing room and all the batsmen are willing to listen to his advice It's plus for any coach .hopefully the likes of ab,shafq &haider ali improve under him

He's someone that the younger players will look up to and will get the help they need.

Good to see him mentioning rotating the strike.you can tell the Bateman are willing to listen to him and is well respected

Not sure what he is writing but the score tells all

Younis Khan the batting coach. Performance watch.

People have been criticizing Younis a lot for his antics of writing something on his notebook ever since he took on the role.

But things are slowly improving in my opinion. Some of our guys are playing with a pretty clear mindset something that was lacking in England.

Fawad's batting rearguard in the first test against NZ was very Younis like.

Rizwan is playing very confidently since coming back in the test side.

For the first time I am seeing Azhar Ali taking the bowling attack on the first day and scoring his first 30-35 runs at almost run a ball.

Abid Ali is looking a little better while batting than he did in England.

I don’t know how much credit you can give Younis Khan when he just recently became batting coach, and how much credit you have to give the individual batsmen themselves for working on their weaknesses.

For batting and bowling there’s a multitude of skills, some of which are more nuanced, and I don’t think a simple batting or bowling coach of an international team can really make a significant change in a bowler or batsman (esp in such a short time frame) because by the time you make it to the international team you are or should be p much the finished product. It’s the job of the coaches at the youth level to really mould the batsman or bowler.

My point is at what point do we credit the coach, that too someone who just came on, and at what point do we credit the players themselves for going out of their way to try something new (and some of them might have used a source outside of YK).

Also we scrutinize our batting and bowling coaches at the Intl level more than any other team I’ve seen.

I don’t think he knows much aboht being batting coach

Doing an excellent job. Our tail has begun to wag excellently. Helped Azhar sort out the technical issue of falling over, which starting from the last England innings has reaped fantastic rewards.

Azhar’s last 5 innings:

141
31
5
38
93

Faheem, Rizwan, Shadab, Fawad all look better players in the last few games. Not sure how much credit goes to Younis, but at least we can say they haven’t regressed which is usually par for the course with Pakistani coaches.

Don’t underestimate the value of a coach who DOESN’T do the opposite of his job description.

Let’s see which NZ batsman has a “chat” with him and takes inspiration like Buttler did in England.

We will have to wait and see who top scores for New Zealand over these 2 Tests.

He will be the one to take tips from “Younis bhai”.

I'll reserve my judgement for a bit more time but tbh sometimes i want to rip apart his notebook.

He is a former cricketer not a saint. He has many flaws, yes, but he has a lot of good qualities as well especially as a cricketer through which he scored 10k runs with 30+centuries.
He should get some credit where it's due whether he just told a particular player not to play a certain shot or whatever.

In 2016 with a much better side, we were trampled in NZ in both tests especially with batting coming unglued. This time around we have already done much better with a much inferior side.

He sure knows showing off but he does have a lot of knowledge and even if he can just discipline our players(such is the low bar which shows how poorly our cricketers manage themselves) would be a big thing.

At the stage of career Azhar is, he just needs a few words to correct his deficiencies. It's the performance of the lower order which has been pretty pleasing. Even Shaheen has been batting confidently. Except openers and Haris, our players haven't looked clueless out there something I was expecting from our batters in NZ.

Not sure what judgement to pass on him considering our lower order is performing better than the top order..

Our batting since England tour looks decent compared for our usual standard in overseas tour. It is our bowling attack that is the most toothless I have seen

He's done well, it is showing with some bats. Will transform this lineup into world beaters soon

I'm particularly excited to have him work with Saud and Abdullah Shafique long term. InshAllah it'll bring them out of their shells.

Not fan of YK because of his nuttiness but I got to say that I saw some real fight in both England and here in NZ. Unlike Waqar, YK has shown that you can make a positive difference. Unless a miracle happens 3 batting spots will open up against SA, and Maybe YK can have an input into who he thinks can make it.

Tough role this, as others have found to their cost.

A few players improve, many stay the same, whilst plenty get worse.
