[VIDEOS] Afghanistan fans fight with Pakistan fans at World Cup 2019

I was at this game live and I can confirm that there was Lots of unruliness. Particularly from the afghan’s. A large group of them even jumped over the gate so they can get in without paying. Very aggressive and seemed to be looking for trouble. Luckily I’m a powerfully built young man so they didn’t misbehave with me but I was ready to deliver a beat down if necessary...

why didn't you go to help your Uncle brethren?

Very unfortunate turn of events on this day in the 2019 World Cup.

Some happy memories for cricket fans spoilt by this but Imad Wasim's knock at end was memorable.

I was at a wedding on this day. The Dulha was more interested in the match than his own proceedings :yk

Pakistan really had the momentum at this stage of the tournament with 3 back to back wins . The disastrous Windies game really hit them hard .

Cowardly Afghani asylum seekers venting their pent up frustrations for their miserable lives against innocent Pakistani fans.

Hope they got locked up after this.

It’s funny you say that but in the English Justice system punching someone a few times doesn’t mean you get locked up. He probably got away with it.

It’s funny here in the UK every Afghan I’ve ever met has always has had hate towards Pakistan and Pakistanis, it’s really surprising how much. I am unsure why when Pakistan seems to support them.

I asked a contact at Headingley about this.

They said around 30 Afghan fans were thrown out and there were only a few arrests.

Sad say for cricket and also for Pak Afghan relations but thankfully with PSL having a few Afghans - things have improved since 2019

Remember this match well. I was wasn't born in the 80s, so didn't witness the hooliganism of the 80s and this was the first time I watched wide scale fighting on a cricket ground. The Afghan fans looked like they came prepared for a fight tbh.

I remember prior to the tournament the Afghan fans were convinced they were going to win the tournament. I don't mean they were slightly optimistic, they were dead certain this was their time.

Afghanistan fans seem like Bangladesh fans on acid.

But for inexplicable reasons they hate you and love us.

This is a common phenomenon with a smaller country neighbour to a bigger more powerful country.

Many Sri Lankans and even Nepalese tend to root for Pakistan against India. Not much different from the likes of Scots, Irish or Welsh rooting against England in FIFA tournaments. This doesn't mean the Lankans or Nepalese have any special affection for Pakistan or Afghans for India, it's just a way of sticking it to the big bullies, especially if there are some political issues between them. You can also say there's a bit of Napoleon complex about it too from the smaller countries.

Afghanistan cricket deserves nothing from Pakistan cricket. Let them play in the lap of India.

Let’s not stoop to BCCI’s level, keep politics out of sports. The Afghan fans don’t represent the team. Also, there’s no harm in playing them, our batsmen need to play more against top quality spinner and Afghanistan has a lot of them

We never brought politics into it, they did. Afghan fans don't represent the team but ACB does; we all know what they said.

There is harm in playing them as you are telling them that you can insult us and our country but we'll bend over backwards for you while our self-respect can go for a toss.

It's really funny before this match Pakistani fans here were posting praises about Afghanistan but after the match they changed colors :butt

I still love Afghanistan :inti

I think you mean *a few* Pakistani fans. Others realize that a small contingent of fans doesn't represent the general populace. You'll find rowdy fans all over the world, and Pakistan especially, is quite accustomed to those kinds of fans.

Pakistanis and Afghans remain Muslim brothers above all else. Only those with weak faith would be tempted into such fitna as fights over a cricket match.

A sad anniversary and something we dont want to see again.

I remember prior to the tournament the Afghan fans were convinced they were going to win the tournament. I don't mean they were slightly optimistic, they were dead certain this was their time.

Replying after an year :p

But afghani fans were rightly convinced. The afghan team was good enough of winning atleast 4 matches but they ended up bottling their own chances.

1. Knowing the world would be in england, instead of going with conditions, they were playing 2-3 spinners every game. They needed good pace bowlers and not tmedium pacers or spinners

2. The captaincy issue. Asghar Afghan literally had his appendix popping out for this damn team when he was pkaying a qualifier to help his team qualify. They removed him as captain and made gulbaddin as captain who was never a regular. The guy was clueless during the whole world cup and had to run to the seniors for help.

3. They bought back the oldies. Hamid hassan and many others were not in the contention for the national team, as soon as this world cup came, they bought back all their old cricketers which made no sense at all. I dont remeber but i think M. Shazad was also there or it was some other oldie.

Afghan cricket suffers from such problems which is hinging their own growth
