It's not limited to any one place in the world.
It's just more extreme in some places then others.

I used to think it was due to lack of education but I'm not sure sure anymore.

Yes USA has serious religious extremism . I assume you have not lived here. It’s shocking for a first world country . The state and religion are separate plus we laws to protect us. I have been to these mega churches. They are like going to a mosque where they preach hatred.

The televangelist industry is so much larger than I thought. These people have found the perfect crop of gullible people to exploit, some are getting entire fleets of private jets crowdfunded for them by their followers (to better allow them to "spread the word of Jesus"). It's astounding.
