[VIDEOS] Ibrahim Zadran, the opening batter breaking records for Afghanistan

Overshadowed by Glenn Maxwell's freakshow was Ibrahim Zadran's innings. He carried the Afghanistan innings, making 129* (143), while the second-highest score was only 35. He hit eight 4's and three 6's.

He became the first Afghan player to score a century in a World Cup, and he achieved the highest individual score against Australia by any batter in all men's World Cup games since 2000.

He is just 21 years old, but he looks like a mature batsman. His ODI stats so far:
  • 27 matches
  • 1272 runs
  • Average of 53
  • Strike rate (SR) of 82.43
  • 5 half-centuries and 5 centuries
While some might argue that his strike rate is on the slower side, his role is to play accumulator. He also opens with Gurbaz so he doesn't need to go hard at the start.

Random fact: He is also the cousin of Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

What do you make of him? too slow? sats padder? Or is he the real deal?

Afghani players have taken age fudging to another level. Doesn't look 21 from anywhere. He is at lease 27-28.

With regards to his batting, he used to be a very aggressive player when first came to the international circuit.

He has become more of a stats padder now with his ultra slow approach. He plays too cautiously. With this approach, he will lose Afghanistan more games than win.
 
Ibrahim Zadran's 50 off 41 provided hope for Afghanistan in their chase of 212/4 against India in the 3rd T20I.

A true Captain's knock.
 
This guy is so consistent with the bat but lets see if he will be able to absorb the pressure of captaincy and keep playing with such confidence.

A cracking maiden Test ton for Ibrahim Zadran against Sri Lanka in the Only Test. He stands unbeaten at 101 (217) at Day 3 stumps.

While no one is staying at the other end, Ibrahim Zadran is fighting hard for his team. He is currently batting at 50* (39).
 
Ibrahim Zadran played really well in the Only Test against Ireland, scoring a tough 53 runs off 83 balls. He showed great determination, especially when others were losing wickets.He has a promising future for Afghanistan in Tests and ODIs.

Ibrahim Zadran Ruled Out Due to Ankle Injury

Hours before the start of the only Test against New Zealand, Afghanistan were dealt a massive blow as Ibrahim Zadran was ruled out owing to an injury. The star batter hurt his ankle during the team’s final practice session at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium in Greater Noida.

As stated by the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Zadran will not feature in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa as well.

MOTM winning 87 against Pakistan at Chennai. Hundred against Australia at Mumbai, that would have been remembered much differently today if it wasn't for Maxwell. And now this knock. He is a proper ODI anchor. Not a fake anchor who acclumalates and then gets out. But someone who accumulates and then cuts loose once he gets set.

Some Pak fans may be a little bitter and not give him his flowers because he talked about the treatment of the Afghan refugees at the hands of Pak state when he won MOTM against Pakistan. But I think he a wonderful find for Afghanistan.
 
I wish we had a batter like Ibrahim Zadran in Bharat.

Amazing batsman. It’s surprising how good players are coming out of AFG. They already have produced very good spinners and now producing some really good batsman. This is after not having played a single international match on home soil. considering the poor quality batsman coming out of BD, Afg can easily become the fourth best team in Asia behind India, SL, Pak. Keep it up AFG
 
At just 23 years and 76 days old, Zadran became the only player in ODI history to score two 150-plus knocks before the age of 24
 
His hardwork is paying off. Saw him talk in post match press conference. Looks like a guy who has a great head on his shoulder. Very calm, sensible and aware individual.
 
Maybe he is tuk tuk or maybe he is class and elegance

What he does have is a heart that is ready to battle for his country. Seen it a few times now, this guy plays with a lot of intensity and passion. He loves Afghanistan and it’s people!
 
This is a top-class innings, scoring 177 when Afghanistan was struggling at 34/3. Shahidi, Azmatullah, and Nabi supported him well.
