Fiery Pakistan fast bowler Aamir Jamal has signed for Warwickshire and could be in line to make his debut in English cricket at Edgbaston tomorrow.

Jamal burst onto the international scene last December during Pakistan’s tour of Australia when he claimed six wickets on debut in Perth.

The 27-year-old bagged 18 wickets across the three-Test series and scored 143 runs batting nine, including 82 in the final Sydney Test when he smashed nine 4s and four 6s.

Bears made enquiries over Jamal’s availability following the tour Down Under.

And after securing international clearance he landed in Birmingham this morning (25 April) and is pushing to start against Nottinghamshire in the Vitality County Championship this weekend.

Warwickshire Performance Director Gavin Larsen said Jamal has signed both red and white ball terms until at least the end of the Vitality Blast group stage in July.

“He really captured the cricket world’s attention in Australia,” said Larsen. “He took the Aussies on with good pace, bounce, and a combative approach, all attributes you want in a fast bowler.

“Pat Cummins was named Player of the Series but you could have made a very strong argument for Jamal to have been awarded that title.

“When we found out Aamir was available we did our due diligence and made an offer.

“He’s jumping out of his skin to be on the park on Friday. He was on the same Pakistan training camp with Hassan so we know he’s fit and strong.”

Jamal has played 31 First Class matches, taking 94 wickets (30.25) and scoring 801 runs (21.64) including a best of 82.

He’s taken 37 wickets from 37 T20 matches with a batting average of 21.52 (SR 155.17).

His T20 franchise experience includes stints with Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League and Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League.

Speaking after his arrival at Edgbaston he said: “I’m very excited to be joining Warwickshire. The Club has a great history of hosting overseas players from the sub-continent and around the world. I’m proud to be part of that family and will do everything I can to contribute towards the team’s success.

“I can’t wait to get started. I’m really pumped up and eager to deliver.”

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: What a clip. Reminds me of those football transfers we see announced on social media.

Good news for Aamer Jamal. Gets exposure to English conditions and high quality training facilities.

@shaz619 will be delighted.

@shaz619 will be delighted.

Both of them deserve a cameo on Eastenders after that.

Am delighted to have both with the Bears boosts our championship chances significantly.

Although, this is amusing to me but Jamal is not as popular in some parts of Brum for costing his team mates numerous games in the Staffordshire league 🤣

Good opportunity for Aamir Jamal to improve his all round batting and bowling skills and improve his swing in english conditions.

This is a clear indication he is not going to the WC in the Carib and U S.

It's a great opportunity to fine tune his skillset. Him working on his power game as well consistent line & length will enhance his prospects ten folds in the national team as well T20 league opportunities.

Did you not watch the Pak vs Aus series?
Yeah, that is the sole reason for him to get selected for the Bears otherwise nobody is interested in Pakistan's domestic system to pick players out of for county. He should do well there. Good luck

So, no wickets for Aamer Jamal in the first innings against Nottinghamshire. Now, let's see how he performs with the bat

Only one series is not good enough to prove your worth because I consider most of those innings which he played in Aus were flukes nothing more than that.

That's why he's taking opportunities like County cricket to prove his worth. What else do you think he should do? Someone above has already said that no one takes the Pak FC system seriously.

I think this is a good outing for a guy like Aamer Jamal to play county. It can benefit him more than playing useless games here in Pakistan where there is next to zero importance. Player are getting selected on basis on leagues so why not try county cricket to get exposure.

Pakistan pace bowler Aamir Jamal is the latest Warwickshire seamer to be sidelined through injury.

Jamal experienced discomfort in his back during his first two County Championship games for the Bears and a scan this week revealed minor injury that rules him out of the trip to Chelmsford. This is why not playing against Essex.

Team Coach Mark Robinson: “Our seam bowling injury list is unprecedented, I’ve not been involved with a side that’s had so many injuries. And these are all bowlers that could come into the first team and make a difference.

“Aamir is the latest one. He’d been suffering with a sore back. The scan has revealed an injury, nothing significant but one that’ll rule him out for a while. We suspected he wasn’t at his best, he’s not been getting anywhere near the pace that both he and we know he can bowl.

“He was frightening the Aussie batters in the winter with his pace but he’s not been at that level since joining us, which is frustrating for him.

He is getting a bit bulky and needs to cut down some pounds otherwise i dont see him playing longerformat cricket for so long.

Aamir is not having a good time in county cricket and now this injury. I guess our players are not fit enough to play a longer format. County cricket demands lengthy spells and fitness to excel but so far, Aamir is just getting injured and nothing else.

Seems like medical tourism at the moment for him - probably getting better medical care than he would get with PCB quacks. Imagine he would have played in the next Test series with whatever this injury is/was!

So a big favour by the county for Pakistan this.

Dude bowled on Australia tour fine. These injuries happen.

Warwickshire is set to face Lancashire today in Vitality T20 Blast 2024. Aamer Jamal is among the 14 member squad announced for today's match. Hoping to see him get a go here. Pakistan really needs a good allrounder and he could be the answer to that question but he need to perform well first.

His psl 9 stint was not good.

I don't think he will be signed again. He's had a nightmare stint.

Had a poor PSL and now having a poor county stint. Not good times for Aamer Jamal atm. But he needs to keep on going. There is no way he can improve without playing more cricket in different conditions.

Woakes replaces Aamer Jamal in a 14-player Bears squad to face the Vikings in the Vitality T20 Blast, maybe Aamer Jamal's form is a concern.

Seems to be fit enough to be included in the squad for today's game vs Derbyshire

He needs to work on his T20 bowling. Maybe he's already working. The kind of flat wickets there are you have no margin for error and have to have an array of variations at your disposal.

Pakistan seamer Jamal leaves Warwickshire due to injury

Warwickshire have parted company with Pakistan seamer Aamir Jamal after diagnosis of a back injury revealed he’d be sidelined for the remainder of his contract.

Jamal joined the Bears in April after a stunning debut on Pakistan’s winter tour of Australia where he claimed 18 wickets in three Tests.

However, a back injury has limited his playing opportunities at Edgbaston.

The 27-year-old managed to play in just two County Championship matches and one Vitality Blast game.
Warwickshire Performance Director Gavin Larsen said it’s been a frustrating period for Jamal and the Club.
“Aamir has worked incredibly hard with our medical and strength and conditioning team,” added Larsen, “but unfortunately, we’ve run out of time to get him back on the field and bowling at full pace.

“He was contracted until the end of the Blast group stage on July 19, but his rehab plan indicated he would not be fit for selection before then.

“It’s disappointing because he showed tremendous potential in Australia with his pace and aggression. I know he’s very disappointed not to have demonstrated his capabilities to the Bears fans.

“We can’t fault Aamir’s attitude during his rehab. I am confident he will return fit and ready to represent Pakistan soon. We wish him all the best.”

Jamal expressed his gratitude towards Warwickshire’s medical and rehab team for their efforts to restore his fitness.

“This is my first experience with a significant injury, and it’s been challenging to accept,” he said. “I’m now focused on getting back to full fitness and resuming play.

“I would have liked my time with the Bears to have gone differently, but I appreciate the support from everyone at the club and wish them success for the rest of the season.”
