[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Has Fawad Alam done enough to keep his place in the Test side?

Shan Masood
Abid Ali
Imran Butt
Azhar Ali
Fawad Alam
Haris Sohail
Mohammad Rizwan
Faheem Ashraf/Zafar Gohar/Yasir Shah
Shaheen Shah Afridi
Mohammad Abbas
Naseem Shah

That would be the best team we can make, and I hope that Imran Butt gets a chance in the first game.

This fawad alarm is seriously awful. He will surely fail against new zealand.he is not good he was never good enough.

I stayed up too late just following his innings in the practise game and have to say it was worth it lol. I'm on his side and looks as if he's on a mission to say i ain't no domestic player after kicking off with a journalist during the first round of the QeA tournament. InshAllah Fawad's best years are ahead of him, my dua is that he makes runs and proves so many people wrong. I reckon play him at no. 5 (his optimum position) and if he sees out the new ball he'll cash in. If he follows the same approach in the practise game with tiring the bowlers out i think he will succeed. Only time will tell but i'm excited nonetheless.

i didnt follow his innings as i work at work but were i could i checked the scores.in sha allah he succeeds and scores runs he should have the new zealand and south Africa tour

I was on leave last week so got to catch it, but the strokes looked good and he looked un-movable at times.

They didn't pick him when they should have and now pick him when he's probably not in the form he was in a couple of years ago.

He is what he is. A tailender with the worst stance ever and so awful with the bat.i m glad he wasn't selected before and it's good to see him failing now.He should be humiliated more.

Picture seems to describe his struggles today!

He should have a regular in Tests and ODI's for a long time - whilst his current performance is disappointing, it is probably unwise to expect him to perform like Babar Azam.

Please tell me this is some other Fawad Alam we are talking about here?
Surely you guys dint bring back the worst batsmen i have seen to have played for a test playing nation, If you did am not missing your second innings..just for laughs

2nd test??? 2nd Innings should be his last inning for Pakistan for quite some time.

What was the need for this shot at 80/5?

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/vtwbo4" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

You cannot judge a batsman in one test aftee a while. He needs be given this series and a series at home as well to establish himself. If he fails then he should be replaced.

He needs some backing If he continues to fail after 6 tests then yes fair emough drop him

At the moment it wouldnt be fair to drop him

Feet and head nowhere to play that shot.

There was no way he could control the shot either.

All in all, a very poor dismissal.

He scored 9 runs or whatever but he played with more heart than cowards Azhar and Harris. He is just too limited to do anything extraordinary

What i am looking at that he batted 41 balls. Another day he would have been 25 and not played that risky shot. This is test cricket, let him have a go for 2 series, with atleast one at home.

Well he has a mentor who has a strike rate of 35 in test cricket. His batting skills would be ideal in the second innings to bat out time. I really hope for his sake he makes use of himself in the second innings.

Sorry I mean strike rate of 45*. Referring to Misbah ul Haq here

Lol he scored big in the A game where literally everyone other person who is currently playing flopped.

Azhar and Abid are deffo worse than him and need to be discarded first before we talk about Fawad's spot.

It's a tough one as I understand the concern that we're investing time in a 35 year old batsman whose reflexes are fading. Yet there's also the desire after all those years of toil in domestic cricket to give him a proper run.

The biggest mistake was not to give him a chance after the retirement of Misbah and Younis in 2017, especially in UAE where his game against spin would've been handy. Instead he's recalled for two difficult tours where many would struggle even in their primes.

I think he's gotta produce at least one decent knock in this Test series for Misbah to justify selecting him for SAF.

They didn't pick him when they should have and now pick him when he's probably not in the form he was in a couple of years ago.

This isn't about "form".

Fawad Alam should have been a Test batsman ahead of Asad Shafiq from 2010 to 2017. Pakistan actually needed a left-hander in the middle-order, and he's mentally stronger than Shafiq.

But he always had an unorthodox technique, which relied upon superb hand-eye coordination. And that hand-eye coordination has deteriorated since around 2015 or 2016, leaving Fawad Alam as a bit of a flat-track bully.

You uploaded the footage of Naseem Shah humiliating him last year in the QEA. Fawad Alam was 24th highest scorer until the international players went to Australia, when suddenly he started amassing runs against bowlers equivalent to Mexican roadsweepers in boxing.

It's wrong that Fawad Alam was dumped prematurely. But he has been brought back posthumously, and with all five specialist batting positions occupied by over-30's he and the others are obstructing the development of the likes of Saud Shakeel.

Good back to the wall job after a top order collapse. Need him to get a big one for the team tomorrow. Lets hope he does it

Needs all his experience now 21* - looks confident so far

Playing for clitheroe has really toughened him up. He needs to occupy the crease longer to sharpen himself up but looks mentally strong.

As for stance and technique it doesn’t matter as long as you find a way to score runs. Some of the best batsmen over the years ijaz, chanderpaul, Steve smith have quirky techniques yet are very successful. Give the guy a chance he’s showing in the second innings he has some stickability.

I hope he can guide pakistan to a draw has more grit and determination that half of pakistan players in the team

Teams dead batted games to a draw many times in the past. Hanif Mohammad batted for 16 hours to save a test match. New-zealand commies seem very confident about their teams chances and rightly so. Honestly besides the new ball haven't seen alot of threat and penetration from their bowlers. Sure Southee and Boult are world class with the new ball, but if they can get past the new ball without losing any wickets, then there is a chance to draw this test match. Santner is good, and with our history against left arm china men (Rangana Herath) I would be worried about our right handers against him.

Potentially one of his last chances to prove he can offer something at the international level.

If he fails in this match and the next I think that would end his career

He is doing alright. Not a long-term option, but at least he has some heart. Cannot say that about some of our other batsmen.

I've been one of the many to say its a bit too late to be selected now.

But fair play to him, he's gritting it out there and it's a shame he was blocked out for so long by the likes of Asad Shafiq.

Rather see someone grinding it out than someone who can score a flashy 30

One of the worst treated player in the history of atleast Pakistani cricket. Unfortunately he is 35 now while Asad Shafiq played (with 10 or so less average in FC cricket) for almost a decade because his initial position was more textbook.

Think the fitness required for this thing of an inning and to have to duck 6 out of every 12 balls suggests physcial fitness will not be the immediate reason for the end of his career. Form, reflexes, oppositions laying traps etc can all be reasons as time progresses.

Think he's just secured his place for the SAF series. The questions towards Misbah, Inzi and Co. will be accentuated should be hold his own today and in the second Test.

Age shouldn't matter, it's all about at least maintaining a decent level of fitness which Fawad has done for years. Name me one time Fawad has looked out of shape?

All you guys going on about age, age, age, where is the maturity in younger players? Some of them look to make risky singles and would never take their time like this.

Got to give it to him. I wasn't his fan tbh and thought he wouldn't succeed with that technique but it works for him. So sad we wasted his career like many before him
..

Judge him after 5 tests. I've never understood the treatment he gets from selectors. Selectors and Misbah had no reason to freeze him out for years.

He scored buckets of runs in domestics for over a decade. For over a decade!!!! Not treated well. He ain’t o second coming of Lara. But asad Shafuque!!

50 for him now. Hopefully he can save the match today. Will be interesting in the next game to see how he performs because he'll have some confidence after this knock

It was to prolong his own faltering career and play his pals.

He is hard to watch but he is mentally tough. I was never a fan but I can see why he had so many on the forum that liked him.

Nothing is enough until the job is done. 1 and a half session left to play out!

Junaids still calculating Fawad's average since comeback?

Wondering if Fawad's awkward stance has been the reason behind him being ignored by selectors. Hard to believe his stance and technique would be good enough for international cricket.

Well he would be a sitting duck in AUS/SA

Good thing Pakistan does not play there again for a while
:fadi

Regardless of how this match ends Fawad's innings is already a befitting reply to those who said he was too old or not good enough to still hang at this level.

Good for him. It's up to 34.25 now.

I'm pleased for Fawad Alam, but it's another damning indictment on Misbah. He filled up his middle-order from 2011-2017 with Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq and himself to support Younis Khan, to the exclusion of Fawad Alam and Umar Akmal.

Turns out he backed the wrong horses.

I'm pleased for him and I accept one over-32 in my batting order.

My model as I've laid out before is:

1 batsman aged 30 or 31.
1 batsman aged 32+
3 batsmen in their peak years

I accept that Fawad Alam should be in this team instead of Azhar Ali and Abid Ali. I will definitely concede that!

Fawad may not have had enough opportunities however Umar Akmal had plenty, difference in attitude between him and Fawad is day and night. Umar thought he was self entitled with a horrendous attitude he does not ever deserve to be in the team

Umar Akmal would have had a better test career than Azhar Ali ! Are you being serious . Umar had a worse career one day career than Azhar , no chance he would have ever replicated Azhar at test level . In fact he probably would have had not even matched Asad shafiq.

If an untalented ****** like shan masood is given consistent run in this side without any performance, I don't see a reason why fawad can't fit in this side.

You can blame Misbah for that only to a certain extent. The brunt of the blame lies on the various selectors who filled the role of chief selector during that period. I can only recall a couple of times Fawad made the Pakistan squad during that period. The last time being the 2014/15 series against England in UAE. And if you recall Azhar and Shafiq were doing pretty well back then therefore it was hard to drop them. Shafiq was a much more consistent performer back then and Azhar had a golden run shortly after that series. Had Fawad been in the squad more often he could have filled in when one of them was out of form but that wasn't the case.

The blame lies most on the selectors and especially Inzamam who refused to select him even when Misbah and Younis were long gone and the Pakistan batting in general was struggling in their absence. If anything, Misbah deserves some credit for atleast finally selecting him and giving him a chance in the starting line-up by dropping Asad Shafiq.

Best darn innings by a Pakistani in overseas tour, he kept ducking those barrage of bouncers!
He is the most mentally strong batsman in our team right now.

Fawad is still pretty fit, hopefully he can still have a decent career and play for a few more year.

It's a gem of an innings. Especially when many wrote him off as a domestic bully who would struggle overseas

Need a well connected father for that sort of run in the test team

Massive hundred for Faadi!

The only thing I could think about was what injustice has been done to this guy! What a tragedy.

All the people involved should be ashamed.

We wasted years on Shafiq. Fawad should play as a first choice batsman and Shafiq as backup.

Every selector and captain we have had needs to come out and explain why this guy wasn’t picked for this long. How could Asad Shafiq and Sohail play over him?

Not just that but the fact that Umar Akmal has played thrice as many test matches as Fawad Alam is almost criminal.

This innings has been all about grit and determination and hard work. Well deserved. I was criticizing his selection but he has done exceptionally well here. Respect

Well played! made his first ton with YK as a captain now the 2nd one as a batting coach.
Had a message for him when he got his 100.

Action replay. Wow

Played so so so well. Largely untroubled. But he will be disappointed with that mode of dismissal. In the second innings he was very good at picking the right length to pull but he pulled the wrong line. That is how small the margins are in test cricket. He'll probably be devastated.

Glad to see him come out fighting. Also have to say he did not look out of place.

I don't think he is a long term answer but he played well and he will definitely keep his place for the South African test series.

This just shows that even if your technique isnt textbook you can succeed and should have confidence in your technique.a shut up call to all his haters.

defonitely thats one of the reasons

Third fifty-plus score in Tests for Fawad Alam - doing well so far - hundred for the taking?

Would help the team a lot if he gets to a hundred, and also at his home ground!
We still have some batting to come, so need to go for a big one here!

Too bad crowds are not allowed.

What a century by Fawad Alam

The legend gets his 1st 100 at NSK! Fighting innings.
:fadi :fadi :fadi :fadi :fadi

Brilliant, brilliant knock.

The least that Inzamam and others, who have had a role in keeping him out can do is issue a public apology.

Shabash oy shera!

Hang your heads in shame PCB for denying this man a career. I still remember back to the days when he was part of the world cup winning U-21 team. Just goes to show batting is a lot more than just style and big hitting.
