After completing the tour of England, the national cricket team has reached the West Indies after flying from Manchester to Barbados.

Upon arrival in Barbados, the national squad's Arrival Testing will be conducted shortly. All members of the national squad will remain in isolation for one day. The national squad will start training sessions from July 23 if the results of the Covid 19 Tests are negative. The national cricket team's tour of the West Indies includes five Twenty20 Internationals and two Tests. The first T20 International between Pakistan and the West Indies will be played on July 27.

So will the same squad play in WI..well that would provide another chance to the likes of Maqsood . Their final chance to impress the selectors.

I think what Pak needs is 2 LA off-spinners in that opening powerplay in Nawaz-Imad. I think both can keep it tight.

Moqsood defo deserves more chances in my view. This is no mickey mouse series. WI just beat Aus and had a close one against SA. Hayden Walsh their leggie, Obed McCoy and Bravo have looked good in their bowling dept.

Guaranteed 5 0 to windies this...although maqsood defo.deserves he hasnt set the world on lights but asif ali has had tooo.many chances

Looks as if they are going bungee jumping or skydiving!:shhh

Huge task to take on the West Indies in their own backyard!

Pak really needs to experiment and try different combinations and players to look at the options of combinations and players before the World T20.

WI tried all their T20 spinners, pacers and batsmen by giving them decent amount of matches along with different batting order and combinations against SA and Aus. They look to be more sorted team if we taken into account their bench strength and options because of that reason.

Ofcourse winning matches is important but, trying different things before the World T20 to find what works best for you is extremely important as well.

Pakistan and West Indies are almost at the same level currently. I think this should be a good series.

How have you worked that one out!! They hammered aussies ..south africa after testing their bench strenghth..they are definately the dark horses if not favourites with england or india. I am expecting 5 0 loss maybe 4 1 if we lucky

West Indies lost 2-3 to South Africa too. They are very inconsistent.

You are right no doubt but in that case we beat england one game and last game made a match out of it yet i think even.afghanistan have a better.team

You got to feel for these guys as travelling is a pain in the Covid world.

Thanks cheetah :)

Waiting for that test series to begin.

Yeah can't wait, it'll be a cracker. I personally don't care about the t20 series. Also hoping Saud can somehow make his debut. Hopefully his 50 in the ODI series has impressed the management. Just gotta chuck that useless Imran Butt out.

Yea Imran has been amateur and it just brings a lot of stress on the middle order to constantly perform. Imran is just a really good slips fielder and we need that in the team lol, this is gonna be a major test for Imran/Abid.

I'll be following that practise game in Guyana on the 6th best believe.

Sameen Gul with an avg of 18.6 in first class cricket keeps getting ignored. He is 6’ ft 3 and bowls at good pace.An excellent seam bowler. He should be playing in tests instead of Faheem.Dhani is good but he is still raw.

Barbados-based Pakistan Squad's Covid-19 Test results have come as negative and as a consequence their room isolation has ended, and all members of the squad will be allowed to train from Friday.

Very much like Titan24, I would also like to see Pakistan try to experiment with the squad, with potentially playing Nawaz and Qadir together, maybe trying Maqsood at No.6, playing Ali Agha Salman etc. Just try different combination and styles.

Yep Moqsood could play that late order hit and he's capable of it like Hassan but i think for proper utilization play him at 3.

I wanna see what it's like to have Nawaz and Imad share the new ball, the spinners will certainly get assistance on these surfaces just like their spinners Fabian and Hayden Walsh.

Ali Agha is a terrible fielder i have to say and just about an ok batsman.

Short boundaries in the west indies grounds should help Pakistani players inflate their batting abilities. Nonetheless, equally matched teams.

I would not play nawaz although he's a brilliant fielder just below shadab in terms of fielding but he doesn't get enough runs down the order.

I think it's more of a push for our middle order to pull their socks up. Nawaz-Imad in an opening powerplay in UAE will be lethal trust me.

Hafeez though might need dropping in my eyes with his declining performance with the bat, fair enough he bowled well last game but if you aren't making runs what's the point?

Let's be honest shadab and imad will be playing all matches come the world cup that only leaves 1 more spinning option In the final xi which will most likely be qadir. But playing qadir or nawaz will mean we will have to drop a batter as I think they will stil go in with 3 fast bowlers just in case.i don't think they will go in with 2 fast bowlers.nawaz is not a middle order batter he's a number 9 batter.

For me both hafeez and malik should be in the world cup squad both will provide useful spinning options instead of nawaz

Hafeez's past performances have been really poor, he's been gifting his wickets and this is not good with the WC just around the corner.

I agree but due to being able to bowl he should stil be in the squad definitely

This from the CWI release regarding resumption of the WI v Aus ODI series:

Following the CG Insurance ODI Series, West Indies are scheduled to face Pakistan in five (5) T20 Internationals and two (2) Test Matches. CWI will meet with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the coming days to discuss any necessary changes to the match schedule.

Leg-spinners determined to produce a better show in Caribbean

Bridgetown, 24 July, 2021:

The two leg-spinners in the Pakistan men’s national cricket team, vice-captain Shadab Khan and Usman Qadir, are determined to make the most of the Caribbean conditions on offer in the five-T20I series against the West Indies, which kicks off on 27 July.

The pitches in this part of the world possess similar traits as the ones in South Asia and the windy conditions at each island further play a role in making them conducive to spin.

For Shadab, who began his international career from Barbados, these islands have a special place in his heart. On his debut on 26 March 2017, Shadab’s outstanding display of leg-spin earned him three wickets for only seven runs and subsequently a player of the match award.

He went on to bag another player of the match award as he bettered his figures in the next match, taking four wickets this time.

Then 18-year-old, Shadab finished with as many as 10 wickets in the four T20Is and was named player of the series as Pakistan trounced the hosts 3-1.

He is eager to play a similar role for Pakistan when they take on the world champions next week.

In a conversation with PCB Digital, Shadab Khan told Usman Qadir: “The three-match T20I series against England did not end the way we wanted it to, but our spinners bowled well in the series decider and that has given a lot of confidence to the leg-spin department.”

Usman Qadir toured the Caribbean for an U15 championship in 2008 and he made that trip memorable by snaring 17 wickets in eight matches. He told Shadab that he is keen to win the games for Pakistan whenever he gets an opportunity to do so.

Usman said: “We will have to factor wind in our game plans and let the ball fly in the air. As compared to the UK, where we targeted the off-stump in the nets, we will have to bring in the wrong ones here to deceive the opposition batsmen.”

Pakistan are unbeaten against the West Indies in the last four Twenty20 Internationals. Three of those were played in 2018, when the West Indies toured Karachi.

Pakistan squad:

T20Is: Babar Azam (captain) (Central Punjab), Shadab Khan (vice-captain) (Northern), Arshad Iqbal (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Azam Khan (Sindh), Faheem Ashraf (Central Punjab), Fakhar Zaman (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Sohaib Maqsood (Southern Punjab), Haris Rauf (Northern), Hasan Ali (Central Punjab), Imad Wasim (Northern), Mohammad Hafeez (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Mohammad Hasnain (Sindh), Mohammad Nawaz (Northern), Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper) (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Mohammad Wasim Jnr (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper) (Sindh), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Sharjeel Khan (Sindh) and Usman Qadir (Central Punjab).

Tour itinerary:

27 Jul – 1st T20I, Kensington Oval, Barbados
28 Jul – 2nd T20I, Kensington Oval, Barbados
31 Jul – 3rd T20I, Providence Stadium, Guyana
1 Aug – 4th T20I, Providence Stadium, Guyana
3 Aug – 5th T20I, Providence Stadium, Guyana

Why are all the T20 fixtures day games ? Like 11am start... Weird time to start a T20 game

Why are all the T20 fixtures day games ? Like 11am start... Weird time to start a T20 game

Could be becoz a day night encounter in WI would mean less viewership in PAK where it will be midnight hours at that time

I sense after the interruptions in the West Indies/Aussies series the Pak one will also be effected by the Covid. Fingers crescented that I am wrong:faf

Can't we have a good opening bowler who has an actual control over the ball? We usually lose t20s in the opening powerplay with our fast bowlers regularly going at 10 an over especially on the 150-160 pitches.
Shaheen is still very slippery with the new ball. Hasan still can't open the attack like he does in PSL.

Would be happy to have a Santokie, Badree, McLaren sort of bowler who can keep it tight in the powerplay instead of having a 60-1 at the end of powerplay. We essentially lost the 3rd t20 against England in the first 6 overs again.

Shaheen doesn't have an opening bowler shaheen has to consistently keep the runs down and get wickets which is tough.I want arshad Iqbal to be given a chance

Shaheen needs to get back to his best. Then only Pakistan has a good chance for the coming T20 matches.

We will only win the series if our spinners do well.

Not much else to be said, except that if there isn't any solution to our middle order woes, you can kiss that T20 World Cup Trophy goodbye.

11 members of the Pakistan Test squad now in the West Indies

They will isolate for one day and have their on-arrival test tomorrow - once clearing that test, they can start their training

National Cricket Squad training session in Guyana. The training session lasted for 4 hours. All the players of National T20 and Test squad participated in the practice session. First the T20 and then the Test squad players practiced in the nets. National players continue training at center and side pitches. During the training session, the players also participated in physical and fielding sessions.

Azam Khan has been injured after being hit on the head during a net session.

Azam was wearing a helmet but has been shifted to hospital for CT scan.

Dr. Riaz Ahmed is present along with Azam and will provide an update after reviewing the batsman's scan.

Should WICB and PCB organise rained off T20 matches after the tests?

Pakistan clearly needs some practice before the T20 world cup and this was probably our last series to try out combinations. Its a shame it has been subjected to covid culling and washouts.

Should PCB request WICB to play the remaining matches after the tests? Or if there is bubble fatigue, then can the tests be scrapped and 4 t20s played instead? The tests could be rescheduled later next year.

No don’t scrap the tests, it is what it is. Move on from this. Yes, you can by all means request t20s be played again after the tests or invite WI to Pakistan for a small series. Pakistan still have lots of prep coming up in home series against England and NZ.

Yes they should play atleast 3 t20s after the West Indies tests if not they should play the t20s instead of the tests.

Pakistan Test squad practices at Guyana National Stadium ahead of the 2-match series against the West Indies. They will play a 2-day intra-squad practice game starting on 6th August and then leave for Jamaica on the 8th of August.

"We are looking forward to a winning start to the next edition of the WTC" : Hassan Ali

Hassan Ali speaking to the media:

"All players are disappointed about T20I series against the West Indies as we all wanted to play; As you saw, even during periods when it was raining, our players were ready to come down to the ground; But the weather is not in our control and we are disappointed that we could not continue with our preparations for the T20 World Cup especially if we had won against current title holders; A win against such a team at home would have given us a lot of confidence; This West Indies side has a lot of firepower, especially in their batting and they could hurt us at any time"

"Anyways, a win is a win and we are very happy to have won the series against the West Indies, in West Indies"

"We are looking forward to the Test series against the West Indies; We have 5-6 days to prepare for this series and we will get used to the red-ball"

"I will hope to continue with my good form and rhythm and the last 2 series were good for me with the red-ball so I will try to keep that form going and to perform well"

"We will need to learn some lessons from the England tour but that is fine because as a cricketer you are always in the process of learning; So if we need to improve when bowling with the new ball, middle overs or at the death, we will work on those problems along with our coach Waqar Younis"

"I really like working with this bowling unit as we have Haris and Shaheen who have performed well in the past and I am also in good form after my comeback; As a bowling unit we all trust each other and our team management and coaches also trust us"

"Of course we have to improve on certain areas which we will do as we have a 1-2 months before the T20 World Cup"

"Our Test side is a very well balanced side with good spinners including Yasir Shah who has comeback into the squad; In terms of our fast-bowling, we have Mohammad Abbas and Shaheen Shah Afridi and in terms of all-rounders, we have Faheem Ashraf"

"We have won the last 2 Test series and we are looking forward to a winning start to the next edition of the WTC"

"There is a long time to go before we play India in the T20 World Cup group game; At the moment my focus is only on the upcoming 2 Tests and to make sure that I prepare myself well for these games"

"Its a matter of great joy for us that Arshad Nadeem has reached the finals of Javelin Throw in the Tokyo Olympics; To come from a small city like Mian Channu and go to the Olympics where athletes from around the world are competing is not a small achievement; We always support such athletes and players and should he win the Gold medal, I will give him a special name; I pray and hope that he wins the Gold medal for Pakistan."

Given the fortunate scheduling in the next FTP cycle, Pakistan have a better chance of qualifying for the World Test Championship final than of progressing in the World T20 this year.

In any case, there are several test cricket fans in the country, including myself, who have been looking forward to this tour for a while. Pakistan play a handful of test matches as it is.

Somebody finally talking some sense and not downplaying the need for tests. I myself am looking forward to this as well.

This is a young team (in terms of experience) and want to see how they perform on these conditions which will offer somewhat of a challenge to our batsmen with the utilisation of the Dukes ball, how much of an impact that has on these conditions....well only time will tell.

Pakistan has a realistic chance of qualifying for the WTC final in this cycle due to the vagaries of the scheduling. I hope the team management and the PCB realize this and give the test team adequate support over the next two years.

This series should be interesting to evaluate whether Hasan Ali's performances against South Africa were a flash in the pan or if his hard work is sustained. He seems a markedly improved bowler over the past 12 months.

Fawad Alam:

Winning always boosts the confidence of both the team and the player

We will try to maintain the winning streak in the series against West Indies and try to win both the Test matches and win the series

Preparation is very important in a practice match before any international match but the first day of the intra-squad practice match was affected by rain and intermittent rain breaks the momentum but as professional players, we are prepared for such a situation

The good thing is that we have the opportunity to play a match scenario on the center pitch
