I am all for rewarding players but something in the way its done here makes me cringe.

I would have preferred cash to players privately but iPhones etc in this fashion - not my cup of tea.

How do others feel?

Not the kind of video you would want to broadcast to the world when you go to the PCB and others and complain about losses.

I found the part about Shaheen asking for a car for a few years now not very nice.

This is our future Wasim Akram etc - surely better way to market him?

Agreed. There was no need to film this. It was all done for the cameras.

Another cheap PR stunt. Reminds me of when the Pakistan team went to visit the Namibia dressing room.

Dont these people have PR guys who would advise them on what to air and what shouldnt?

I personally would like Sameen Rana to gift me a Lamborghini for being a devout Qalandars fan

I mean a lot of these guys are intnl players

Do they get paid so badly that an iphone is such a big prize?

It’s a good prize to pass on to family and friends

They have been doing this the entire tournament.

The entire team including support staff was given IPad pro max or whatever it's called because they made it as top 2.

I don't mind it, it's the internal matter of the franchise and if they want to make it public, so be it.

Sameen Rana over does it. They mentioned each and every gift, and a round of awkward clapping after every small announcement.

LQ did not have a proper marketing team with them.

Anyways, I hope these announcements weren't made in the spur of the moment.

I am also disturbed by the fact that Bank of Punjab, which is a Punjab govt bank, they are paying 10 lakh rupees. Should govt banks be giving such prizes?

In Pakistan, having the latest Iphone is a status symbol, even if you are educated or dont have a stable job......

Plus, due to tariffs its expensive here so maybe thats why....

Always feel that this sort of stuff should be kept private.

If PCB announce prizes for a tournament fair enough, but this sort of thing is strange.

So Cringe way to celebrate. Imagine being one of the overseas players. Completely different and worse to football teams' celebration.

And yeah they should have done the prizes privately, stupid really.

Although Was funny to see players cheering and reacting to players winning a car and iPhone lol

Plus I'm sure most of these players already have an iphone

Yeah, when they finished last place four seasons in a row I still kept supporting them, so I would love to get a free iPhone as well lol.

Not seeing any problem with it. I mean they are just rewarding the players here. Good companies reward their good employees every month with a bonus, and yes they don't do it privately. All it'll do is encourage the players and increase the reputation of the franchise, both of which are not bad for the franchise perspective.

If anyone is finding it cringe, then they should also find the post match ceremonies cringe, when the good players of match are rewarded. In international matches, I have seen the man of the match prize being $500, so we can also make the argument there that player is getting happy over that man of the match award as if he has never got that amount of money, but we don't argue about it there.

I feel wiese deserved a car and harry brook deserved a top prize..their sacrifice is more than hafeez, Fakhar and shaheen etc...anyone agree?

Problem isn't the prizes but the way the players are acting as if they have been pining for these!

End of match ceremonies are dignified and never do you see a player jumping up and down if he gets a cheque etc

Reward players by all means, do it privately.

Nothing wrong with celebrating.

But, these things probably should happen in private.

Sameen Rana on this video:

"I know about the hype - A lot of people texted me about the videos which we shared on social media. Basically, the idea was to make this league look bigger. PSL is our brand, and the brand looks bigger when you do something out of the box. We decided to honour and acknowledge players like this"

"We gave away phones and prizes not to show off but just to motivate our players. Let me tell you, a healthy competition was built up within our team and players started putting more effort into performance so that they can get an iPhone"

"Qalandars will definitely take another step forward next year. But, I want other owners too to come forward and do things like this to make PSL a bigger brand"

Shaheen gets his car!

Its good to see him being rewarded like this - I suppose a big deal having this car/SUV in Pakistan but am sure he knows his true worth which is much more.

As per reports, Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf were also rewarded with cars today

This is great to see. Clubs and agencies make a lot of money from these cricketers and really good to see them give back. Kudos!

Not trying to change the subject MenInG but this a great example as to why our Test team is bad. What is the incentive for young players to grind it out for 5 days when there is instant reward / riches in T20?

It is not a lucrative profession any longer and hence why we do not produce quality Test cricketers any more..

no one plays tests for money. england, india and Australia still consistently produce good test cricket despite being the most well-compensated players in the world, often at very young ages.
