[VIDEOS] Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala shot dead

The man was an international superstar for sure. Guys like Nusrat Fateh Ali and AR Rehman made south Asian music proud across the globe. Sidhu is right up there with these two legends!

With all due respect, he was nowhere near the calibre of the likes of Nusrat and AR Rehman.

Sidhu did perform at the Wireless festival. That's a big achievement for a non-western rapper.

I don't think even Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan would've even had that chance.

Sidhu was the Asian Tupac and world famous.

In terms of creativity, quality etc yes I agree but I disagree on international appeal. Sidhu was an internationally acclaimed south Asian artist, or he was definitely on the right track to become one.

He was an international superstar, and opened doors/bridged the gap between the urban scene in the UK and punjab. Im sure he has inspired many others but i wouldnt put him in the same bracket as Nusret or AR.

Canadian rapper Drake has paid tribute to Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, who was killed on May 29 in Indian Punjab’s Mansa district. In the debut episode of his radio show Table for One that aired on Saturday, the Hotline Bling singer promoted his new album Honestly, Nevermind and paid tribute to Moose Wala, who was gunned down a month ago.

When news of Moose Wala’s death had surfaced, the rapper had also shared an Instagram Story to bid farewell to the Punjabi singer. “Rest in peace, Moose,” he had written.

Now, according to HipHopNMore, Drake played Moose Wala's singles 295, which recently found a spot on the Billboard Global 200 charts and appeared on the top three spot on YouTube's Global Music Video chart, and G-Sh*t on his radio show. Moose Wala's last track, The Last Ride, also saw an upward trend on the chart and is now listed on the sixth spot, as per Economic Times. Its video has amassed over 73 million views on YouTube.

During the episode, Drake also talked about never having done a radio show before and said he named his show Table for One because oftentimes, he likes to get a table for himself to just zone out.

The Scapegoat and Congress leader was shot dead on May 29, a day after his security was withdrawn by the state police. Many musicians sent their condolences to the rapper's family. The Calaboose' hitmaker has had past musical collaborations with a number of artists, including British rappers Stefflon Don and MIST, Indian-American rapper Raja Kumari and Pakistani-American rapper Bohemia.

Still no news on the investigation and any charges against those who committed this horrible crime.

Sidhu was the Asian Tupac and world famous.

He isnt well known in the UK even with Asians unless they are Sikhs or love Bhangra. Nusrat alive today would be offered Glastonbury. In terms of vocals and music, its not even close.

Tupac lived the life, this chap was a wanabee parading guns as if its cool. The US rappers were also highlighting their struggles in growing up in ghettos etc.

Its seems he messed with the wrong people, who took him out. Condolences to his family, its always horrific to hear such news.

Lol wireless festival. Anyways first let me clear this, I have heard Moosewala and I do dig his beats.

However

ARR is an Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe winner, had his own musical on broadway and scores of other accomplishments.

NFAK too I believe may have won a Grammy. Anyways he brought the traditional classical music and made it standout in the west and brought attention the genre and is constantly rated as one of the most influential musicians of all time.

Sidhu is probably an extremely popular rapper in the Punjabi diaspora. I don’t understand his lyrics but given his popularity I am assuming his poetry/lyrics might be amazing even though I don’t understand Punjabi.

Prince,Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber are extremely popular and talented is a valid statement

However that doesn’t translate to all 3 of them are musical geniuses. Only 2/3 names mentioned above are.

Anyway l can understand when someone is on the top of the game and have a rabid fan base and die prematurely, his fans might be devastated at this loss.

Having said that good and popular musician I have no issues confirming to that but ARR and NFAK are geniuses and innovators and should belong to a different league. Putting him in the same league is funny and is only counter productive to his legacy

He was very popular with UK Pakistanis and was a huge hit in Pakistan itself.

Sidhu's career was on the ascendency. He has a song with one of the leading UK rappers.

You can't be a nobody if you're performing at the Wireless festival. He would have made it in America.

Anyways at least we have AP Dhillon. Now this guy is seriously popular.

Im not really a huge bhangra fan, after a while all the songs sound the same. I know he may have worked with Steelbanglze who produces music for grime artists but i still dont believe he was very famous in the Asian community as someone like Imran Khan or Bilal Saeed. But sure he could be a great artist if you feel he was.

Im more interested in his gangsta approach. He didnt come from a poor family in a ghetto, so I find this kind of strange or was he just following the hype from US rappers?

Sidhu was more popular among Pakistanis than Indians (in terms of number) due to Punjabi songs, very few Indian artists ever get truck arts in Pakistan, Sidhu is among the very few.

AP is a genius I love that many of his tracks have names that are not in the lyrics but define the lyrics.

Toxic is an excellent one.

Imran Khan faded very quickly after his first album. He's been living off that.

Bilal Saeed is very good but he didn't get the worldwide recognition that Sidhu got.

Sidhu was definitely inspired by Tupac and you can see where he's get his influences from.

Drake, who has been the most popular US artist in the last 10-12 years paid tribute to him in his radio show by playing some of his big tunes which shows how badly he'll be missed all over the world.

Ik and bilal saeed are no where near sidhu. Sidhu crossed them long time ago. Ik is living off his one album.

No one listens to bilal saeed anymore.

The last three years were all sidhu in pakistan punjabi rap.

Though, i think his voice wasnt as good as if you watch his singing videos without the electronics, his voice wasnt that good and probably used alot of electronics to get the right voice

Agreed.

How would you compare his popularity to AP Dhillon in Pakistan?

I was talking of fame. There is no way this chap was more famous than those both. Not in the UK anyway. Who you think is better is your opinion as music is about taste and opinion.

Pakistani punjabi rap :))

Rap music originated in the US, it was a political movement which came from break dancing and beat boxing. They can rhyme but its never rap. Thats the problem with these wannabee gangsters, they are not hungry, they dont grow up in the ghettos but want to imitate a lifestyle they have no clue of. They need to calm down and relax, stick to bhangra and their traditions. The chap was shot for whatever reason but im sure him being a plastic gangsta must have contributed in some form.

Please do not call such people rappers. They are Bhangra guys and its not the genre of music I enjoy listening to as its all the same, jatt this , gubra that, same old drums etc. But whatever floats your boat. I can understand topsin as the UK music scene and culture is incredible but someone living all their life in Pakistan wont have a clue of rap music.

Agreed.

How would you compare his popularity to AP Dhillon in Pakistan?

AP dhillon music has also been on the rise. Brown Munde and than Khen de hundi got famous in Pakistan. After Moosewala he will take over the punjabi rap title now.

On this forum, while many claim to be Pakistani, i realize many dont know the reality back home, what are the trends etc.

i have lived in West for more years than you have lived in Pakistan :)

If you dont like their music, thats separate thing. Everyone has their taste, even i dont like Punjabi Rap. However, just because you dont like their music doesnt mean you can classify it as anything you want. Its not bhangra it is rap.

Also, its better to know about the trends of Pakistan before giving conclusions here about others.

DOnt know why you had to go all personal just because Sidhu Moosewala is listened to all across Pakistan and IK and Bilal Saeed are not even near him....

I guess its the Indian hate

This is bhangra

KingKhanWC

This is Punjabi rap. If you understand the lingo and you're into rap, you'd appreciate this as a work of art.

As mentioned before, you wouldn't have Drake (possibly the biggest artist in the game right now) paying tribute to him in his own radio show by playing his songs.

You have no clue of rap music. Living here for a few months doesnt mean you get to understand the culture or music.

Pakistani punjabi rap isnt even a genre, just something made up by wannabee Asians who listened to a few Death row records tunes :))

My point was there is NO need to act or to imitate rap music by Punjabis. Sure use rhymes or poetry which has a great history in Asia but walking with a limp holding handguns is embarrassing.

This is so poor I couldnt stomach more than a min. It sounds like a different version of bhangra with some wanabees pointing fingers like guns.

Why not stick to the traditional punjabi music which is incredible. He may have had some famous artists knowing him but wasnt really famous in the west.

One of the main shooters in the killing of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala is among two "most wanted" criminals of the Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang arrested by the Delhi Police yesterday, police said.

Sharpshooter Ankit Sirsa, one among those who fired indiscriminately at the singer, and Sachin Bhiwani, who was responsible for sheltering four of the shooters of the Sidhu Moose Wala case, were arrested from Delhi's Kashmiri Gate bus stand on Sunday, Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, Special Commissioner of Police of the Delhi Police Special Cell said at a press conference today.

Ankit, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana, is accused in two other cases of attempts to murder in Rajasthan. He is also the youngest of the shooters.

Sachin Bhiwani, who is also accused in a "heinous case" in Rajasthan's Churu, is accused of hiding the shooters and helping them.

Bhiwani was the main person handling all the operations of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in Rajasthan, police said.

Cops recovered one 9 mm bore pistol along with 10 live cartridges, and one pistol of .30 mm bore along with 9 live cartridges from them.

Three Punjab Police uniforms, two mobile handsets along with a dongle and a sim were also recovered, they said.

Cops had last month said that the three people who were then arrested in connection with the killing of Sidhu Moose Wala were carrying high explosive grenades and an assault rifle.

"Eight grenades, nine electric detonators, three pistols, and one assault rifle were recovered from the arrested accused," they had said.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, known by his stage name Sidhu Moose Wala, was shot dead by unidentified people on May 29.

Delhi police had earlier arrested three persons, including two main shooters, from Kutch in Gujarat. The accused were identified as Priyavrat alias Fauji (26), a resident of Sonipat in Haryana, Kashish (24), who is also from the state's Jhajjar district, and Keshav Kumar (29), a resident of Bhatinda in Punjab, they said.

Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar had claimed responsibility for Moose Wala's murder in a Facebook post. Goldy Brar is a close aide of gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi, who is the chief suspect in the Punjabi rapper's murder.

The security cover of 424 VVIPs in Punjab was restored, days after singer Sidhu Moose Wala - whose security cover was curtailed - was shot dead.

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, was heavily slammed over curtailing security for VVIPs. The opposition also attacked the government for making the names of the protectees "public".

Three ambulances have reached the village near Amritsar where a shootout between the police and two suspected killers of singer Sidhu Moose Wala is on. The area has been cordoned off and people told to stay indoors, sources said.

Punjab Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force had been tailing the two men -- gangsters Jagroop Singh Roopa and Manpreet Singh alias Mannu Kussa -- when the encounter started at Bhakna village, around 20 kilometres from Amritsar.

Mannu Kussa is alleged to have fired the first shots at Moose Wala from an AK-47 rifle. He and Jagroop Roopa were among three of the suspected shooters who were on the run; of them, Deepak Mundi has not been traced yet.

Police from Punjab, Delhi and Mumbai have arrested several men for the murder, which was directed allegedly by Canada-based Satinderjit Singh, alias Goldy Brar, in coordination with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who was already in Delhi's Tihar Jail. Interpol has since issued a Red Corner Notice to trace Goldy Brar in connection with two other cases.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, alias Sidhu Moose Wala, 28, who was a Congress leader besides being a singer-songwriter and rapper, was shot dead near his village Moosa in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29.

Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the murder through Facebook posts. He said it was revenge for the murder of an Akali leader Vicky Middukhera last year.

Muhammad Nooh Dastgir Butt who made his way to winning gold by lifting 405 kg in the 109 kg- plus category in Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022, enjoyed the moment of glory with his Indian counterpart, Gurdeep Singh, who won bronze in the same category.

Their party was filled with their favourite Sidhu Moosewala’s songs playing in the background away from media presence. Their bond came as evidence of ongoing culture and mother tongue of the two Punjabs of India and Pakistan.

“Gurdeep and I have been very good friends. After the gold, I first congratulated Gurdeep and later we did a small celebration where we danced to Moosewala’s songs,” Nooh told media at Birmingham.

“Nooh and I first met in junior championships six years ago and would share tips about diet. Conversing in Punjabi obviously helped our friendship,” Gurdeep said when asked about his with Nooh.

Speaking about his interest in Sidhu Moosewala’s song, Nooh said, “When I saw the news of Sidhu Moosewala’s death, I messaged Gurdeep to confirm. At my home gym, where I train, I played songs like Jatt Da Muqabla and the recently released Song 295 to set the tempo for my training,” says Nooh, who hails from a family of weightlifters.

Nooh comes from a family of weightlifters. His father Ghulam Dastgir Butt is 16-time Pakistan national champion. To Nooh, he always talked about India as a friendly nation.

Nooh had also felt the same about India as he said, “”I visited India twice and competed in Pune and Guwahati. The kind of love India has given me, no other country has given me. I have more fans from India than Pakistan in the weightlifting community. When I was leaving the hotel in Guwahati, the staff and volunteers were crying. It made me emotional.”

Mastermind Behind Escape Of Key Accused In Sidhu Moose Wala Murder Arrested: Cops

Chandigarh:

The mastermind behind the escape of gangster Deepak Tinu from police custody in Mansa was arrested, Punjab Police said on Monday.

Chirag, a brother of Deepak Tinu, has been arrested, said Inspector General of Police (Patiala Range) M S Chhina in Patiala.

Two pistols and a car used to help Deepak Tinu escape have been recovered from Chirag, added Mr Chhina.

"Chirag was the mastermind in the escape of Deepak Tinu," said Mr Chhina addressing the media in Patiala district.

Deepak Tinu, one of the accused in singer Sidhu Moosewala's murder, had escaped from the custody of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) unit of the Mansa Police one October 1 night.

Pritpal Singh, who was the CIA In-charge Mansa, had allegedly taken him in his vehicle to his official residence to facilitate a meeting with the gangster's alleged girlfriend.

Later, the gangster along with the alleged female friend had escaped. Police in the wake of the incident dismissed and apprehended Pritpal Singh.

Deepak Tinu was arrested from Ajmer in Rajasthan by the Delhi Police on October 19, while his girlfriend had already been arrested by the Punjab Police.

With Chirag's arrest, eight people have been arrested in connection with the escape.

Sidhu Moosewala Case: Probe Agency Gets Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's Custody

New Delhi: A Delhi court today granted 10-day police custody of Lawrence Bishnoi to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Siddhu Moose Wala murder case.

The agency is probing the angle of links of Delhi-NCR's gangsters with terror outfits.

Special Judge (MCOCA) Shailendra Malik of Patiala House Court granted 10-day custody to NIA after hearing the submissions made by the agency. NIA sought 12 days of custody of Lawrence Bishnoi.

During the hearing, the agency submitted before the court that it was investigating Sidhu Moose Wala's case and need his custody.

The court asked the agency, "What is the locus of NIA in the Moose Wala murder case?"

The agency replied that the material is coming from Pakistan and people like Moose Wala are targets. An investigation into the larger aspect is being carried out, and links are being searched.

Earlier the court had issued notice to Lawrence Bishnoi and three other accused in a plea seeking permission to obtain voice samples of them. Delhi Police had moved this application.

Delhi Police had said that Lawrence Bishnoi was using a mobile number which was being used by a member of Indian Mujahideen. The calls made by Bishnoi and his gang members were intercepted.

Delhi Police said that accused Bintu alias Mintu contacted the said mobile number several times from four different mobile numbers in the months of April and May 2022.

Accused Bintu also arranged conference calls for Lawrence Bishnoi to connect him with other gang members namely Deepak alias Teenu, Sampat Nehra, Goldy Brar, and Anmol Bihsnoi to operate gang activities and to execute crimes on behalf of crime syndicate, Delhi Police submitted.

Caught by US authorities, gangster Goldy Brar, alleged mastermind in the killing of singer Sidhu Moose Wala, was based in Canada for a number of years. He allegedly took responsibility for coordinating the murder in May, but was on the run since.

Five points that reveal Goldy Brar's life and crimes so far

How he had left India: Satinderjit Singh, alias Goldy Brar, said to be in his late 20s, had left India on a student visa for Canada in 2017. A native of Muktsar district in Punjab's southern belt bordering Haryana and Rajasthan, he is also alleged to be a key conspirator in a Dera Sacha Sauda follower's murder last month in coordination with Sikh radical groups.

Was on many radars: While the shooters and others who aided Moose Wala's murder were caught in India, Goldy Brar remained abroad, so authorities sought international help. Sources in intelligence agencies told news agencies that Brar, who worked as a trucker, had recently shifted to the US as he was being tracked and was also on the radar of rival gangs. His detention — confirmed by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann — may be the first step towards getting him to India, though it has several other steps.

From college to gang: A key member of a gang run by Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, took responsibility for the murder through a Facebook post. Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi became friends during their student politics days in Chandigarh in the late 2000s-early 2010s. Lawrence Bishnoi is imprisoned for years — he was in Tihar Jail when Moose Wala was killed in May — from where he has been running his gang, it is alleged.

What he claimed: His Facebook post said Brar had got Sidhu Moose Wala killed "in retaliation" for the murder of a Youth Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera. In that case, a former associate of Sidhu Moose Wala had once been named for questioning. Police, too, had initially linked the killing to "inter-gang" rivalry, but later stressed this didn't mean the singer was involved with any gang.

Immediate fear: Before he was detained in California around 10 days ago, he'd been living in Fresno city and had safehouses in Sacramento, Frizow and Salt Lake too, sources have said. He feared for his life also from other gangsters. NDTV had reported in July that two men who looked like Goldy Brar were attacked by a rival gang. They were beaten severely and their lives were spared after the matter of mistaken identity was understood.

Moose Wala Murder: FBI Grills Mastermind Goldy Brar After Detention In US, Contacts Punjab Cops

New Delhi:

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has formally informed Punjab Police about Goldy Brar, who allegedly coordinated singer Sidhu Moose Wala's murder, having been caught in California, sources today said. The FBI communication, seen as the first step towards bringing Brar to India, has come through the Ministry of External Affairs.

Goldy Brar has been detained in the city of Sacramento, it said, according to sources.

He was in Canada since 2017 and recently moved to the US as he feared law enforcement and rival gangs. He was detained around November 20. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had announced this "big breakthrough" earlier this week.

The FBI is learnt to have already interrogated Brar, who had taken responsibility for the murder through a Facebook post.

Sidhu Moose Wala, a rapper with international fame who also was a Congress leader, was killed on May 29 near his village, Moosa, in Mansa district of Punjab. The shooters and plotters were caught or died in encounters, but Goldy Brar, who allegedly worked in tandem with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, continued to move bases in Canada and later the US.

Goldy Brar, whose full name is Satinderjit Singh, worked as a trucker after having moved to Canada originally on student visa five years ago. A native of Muktsar district in Punjab's southern belt bordering Haryana and Rajasthan, Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi became friends during their student politics days in Chandigarh around a decade ago. Lawrence Bishnoi is imprisoned for years — he was in Tihar Jail when Moose Wala was killed in May — from where he has been running his gang, it is alleged.

In his Facebook post, Brar had said he got Sidhu Moose Wala killed "in retaliation" for the murder of a Youth Akali Dal leader, Vicky Middukhera. In that murder case, a former associate of Sidhu Moose Wala had once been named for questioning. Police, too, had initially linked Moose Wala's killing to "inter-gang" rivalry, but later stressed this didn't mean the singer was involved with any gang.

Brar, before being detained in California's Sacramento city, had been living in Fresno city and had safehouses in Frizow and Salt Lake too, sources have said. NDTV had reported in July that two men who looked like Goldy Brar were attacked by a rival gang.

Audio Clip, Allegedly Of Gangster Goldy Brar, Says He's Not Arrested

Chandigarh:

Days after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann claimed that gangster Goldy Brar was detained in California, an interview reportedly of the gangster surfaced online on Monday wherein he claimed that he was not held and nor was he in the US.

Bhagwant Mann on December 2 had confirmed in Ahmedabad in Gujarat that Brar -- the alleged mastermind behind the killing of singer Sidhu Moosewala -- had been detained by the police in California and that he would "definitely be brought to India". He will be in the custody of the Punjab Police "very soon", Mr Mann had told reporters.

However, Goldy Brar in a purported interview given to a journalist on YouTube denied these claims. The authenticity of the interview could not be ascertained either by Press Trust of India or by NDTV.

In the purported interview, the person calling himself Goldy Brar claimed that he had not been detained and also he was not in the US. In the audio clip of the interview, he could be heard contradicting Mann's claims about his detention.

Goldy Brar was the alleged mastermind behind the killing of singer Sidhu Moosewala in May this year.

Bhagwant Mann has been under fire from the opposition parties over his claim of the detention of Goldy Brar.

Senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia had earlier asked the Punjab Police chief to confirm the news of detention of the gangster in the US, asserting that he did not trust the statement of the chief minister on the matter.

Mr Majithia had accused Bhagwant Mann of lying to people and said he had information that Goldy Brar had not been held yet. He had claimed that the Chief Minister gave a misleading statement on the gangster.

Shiromani Akali Dal spokesman Arshdeep Singh Kaler on Monday asked Mann why he was mum after his claims on the detention of Brar had fallen flat as the purported interview of the gangster appeared in public domain.

Mr Kaler said it was shocking that more than three days had passed since the chief minister made a "tall claim" on the detention of Goldy Brar in Gujarat with the sole motive to garner votes for the AAP.

Hitting back, Aam Aadmi Party chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang slammed SAD leader Majithia for raising questions over the Chief Minister's statement on Goldy Brar.

It is amusing that Mr Majithia is backing a notorious gangster's statement and raising questions over Punjab Chief Minister's statement, he said.

"My question to Mr Majithia is that you are going by the claims of Goldy Brar about his detention but doubting the statement made by CM Bhagwant Mann," Mr Kang said.

Earlier, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring had also asked the Punjab Director General of Police to clear air on the detention of Goldy Brar.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29.

Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the singer's brutal murder. A red corner notice, which allows the arrest and detention of a fugitive abroad, was issued against him.

Sidhu Moosewala's murder was in retaliation to youth Akali leader Vicky Middukhera's killing that took place last year.

Gangster Goldy Brar, who claimed responsibility for Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s killing in May last year on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has been included on the list of Canada’s 25 most wanted.

An Interpol red notice was last year issued against Brar, who is from Punjab’s Mukhtsar. He is wanted for murder, criminal conspiracy, supply of illegal firearms, and attempt to murder in India.

Brar was last year reported to have moved to the US even as Indian agencies were tracking Punjab gangsters based in Canada.

The National Investigation Agency has been looking at a “larger conspiracy” as once small-time gangs have morphed into very big organised syndicates and specialise in high-profile contract killings, and smuggling of drugs. The gangs have threatened popular personalities

The announcement of the names of the 25 fugitives, including Brar, was made at an event marking the fifth anniversary in Toronto of the Bolo (be on the lookout) programme, which leverages social media, technology, and innovative engagement to encourage citizens to be on the lookout for Canada’s most wanted.
