In October 2019, Shepherd was selected for the West Indies One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against Afghanistan. He made his ODI debut against Afghanistan on 6 November 2019.

In January 2020, he was included in the West Indies Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against Ireland. He made his T20I debut against Ireland on 18 January 2020.

In November 2023, he was named in the ODI squad for the West Indies' 3-match series against England. In the first ODI, he scored 48 runs off 28 balls and claimed 2 wickets for 77 runs.

In July 2020, Shepherd was included in the Guyana Amazon Warriors squad for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League. In December 2021, he was signed by the Karachi Kings during the players' draft for the 2022 Pakistan Super League.

In February 2022, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament. Currently, he is representing the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.

Name a single West Indian pro cricketer that is incapable of smoking proper sixes against pace/extra pace?

That’s the challenge

Romario Shepherd has just smashed Anrich Nortje for 32 runs in an over. His 39*(10) at a strike rate of 390 against DC helped MI reach 234/5 in 20 overs in IPL 2024.

Tbf

What is this bowling by Nortje? Nothing deliveries in the slot or on a length at the back end.

-Yorkers not full enough

-Back of a length not throat height.

Crap bowling by a guy who should be a world class performer

You still have to put them away. 32 runs from 1 over is very difficult. Yah but the bowling was poor.

Romario Shepherd told the media here after the match:

“Whenever you're in that kind of role you're even more dangerous, having to just hit the ball because when you ‘see-ball hit-ball', it's a more clear mindset than having to be tentative and looking for ones and twos.”

“You play a bit tentative there and may be mis-capitalise on some delivery that you would normally hit."

“But when you're in the back end and there's only 18 balls, you will only face about seven, eight or nine out of those balls. You have to maximise and hit it as well as you can.”

“Especially in the finishing role, there's a lot of pressure on us because everyone expects us to just go in there and blast sixes. Some days it will come off, some days it won't. Like today it came off, on the next day, it won't come off.”

This guy could be another Andre Russell for the West Indies if their board does not ruin him as they have done with others.

He is one of the best T20 all rounders they could bring into the World Cup.

Every league should have a West Indian finishers They are born finishers. Pollard, Russell, Bravo, Pooran, Romario, Powell.

Unfortunately with Romario Shepherd, he's as liable to concede 32 runs from an over as he is to score 32 off an over.

His bowling still needs work and WI have lots of seam bowling ARs from Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Matthew Forde, Dominic Drakes and Odean Smith.

That said I thought his bowling vs ENG in the recent home LOIs showed maturity and was WI's leading wicket-taker in the ODIs.

Yes that is a slight downgrade but his pace is a weapon for him. I have seen him bowl really good death overs with yorkers so if he does so on regular basis, he can become a handy bowler too and his utilization as an all rounder could then increase.
