What's new

[VIDEOS] Should Mohammad Asif be recalled to the Test side based on performances in the QEA Trophy?

No offence but our very own Saj moans about the pitches back home, and how they're so poor for batting. He then goes on to twitter to shows off Asif's bowling stats.

You can't have it both ways.

I tweet about a lot of players in the QeA Trophy. Just in the last few days I've tweeted about Asif, Umar Amin, Bilawal Bhatti, Hammad Azam, Raza Hasan, Ali Shafiq.

It's up to the public to decide whose performances are noteworthy.

Fair point.

And this is exactly what people said last summer about Aamir and how did that go? A 35 year old Asif who has been out of international cricket for 7 years is simply not the solution at this point . You can't judge him based on his performance s on dodgy Pakistani domestic wickets and predict that he would succeed.

Why don't you ask Virat Kohli :yk2

No.

In tests I'd like to have an attack of Hasan Ali, Abbas, Yasir and Ashgar/Raees in spin friendly conditions.

In seam friendly conditions I might include Amir.

No point investing in a guy involved in fixing, and will only be able to play for one or two years before we have to move on. We've got quite a few fast bowling talents let's try out all of them before we even consider Asif.

the one or two years he spends in the team could do wonders for the education of new bowlers. these players are talented but have no mentors.

So while Salman Butt is floundering, Mohammad Asif is having the best domestic season of his entire career.

Mohammad Asif's 2017-18 figures
11.1-4-28-5
17-5-53-6
15-3-50-3
13.5-2-40-5

19 wickets at an.........

Average of 9.00.

Strike Rate of 18.00

Economy of 3.00

And he's bowling more overs too than he managed last year.

Can't wait for Amir and Asif to open the bowling for Pakistan.

The wickets have been atrocious though not that am denying his skill. He won't be picked due to his age more then anything, if he was the same age as Amir maybe the PCB would have invested in him

Can't pick someone who hasn't played Tests in 7 years, is 35 years old just for two Tests in England next summer. And 36 by the next series comes around.

Maybe he'll do well in England, but at his advanced age, there won't too many matches where he could theoretically have an impact.

He'll be in his late 30s without many matches played. Relatedly Bringing back the likes of Butt, Akmals, Shehzad and Asif in Tests would be a pathetic move because there's no real plan to develop the next generation.

It also sends a terrible message to younger cricketers working hard to break into the team that we can't even invest in them but will keep giving recalls to grandads.

On the plus side, it's not like we have ENG's bowling attack. We can take 20 wickets in most conditions.

He is to be played for test matches only, Tests are not a development system, you field your best side and I still believe Asif is special, age to me is not much a bother since he uses guile and speed was never very significant for him.... what I am worried about is Mickey stressing on fielding and Asif not being able to meet those standards

No. We already have a crook in our side, don't need two just for the sake of it.

The crook won you the only important LOI game or final in many many years. The same target was chased by Kohli single-handedly by 180 in 2012.

Furthermore, after doing due time for their crime, every individual deserves a second chance at life. Despite all insecurities , you cannot punish a person forever after they have already paid for it.

"He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone" comes to mind. I am sure you have never done anything wrong in your life.

Move on, bro

But based on merit, all he could do is perform in domestic for potential selection in the team

Pls Play him Muhammad Asif pls play him in england

This really, nobody can deny Asif's talent but even Aizaz Cheema has been lethal this season at the age of 38 which tells you how awful these pitches have been. In that video, the highest score in that match was 167 and that team won by an innings !

With Amir, Abbas and Ali we have the seam bowling department covered for the Ireland and England tour. Its the batting we need to sort out.

Amir has shown us that he's mediocre in the test level, Hasan is a newbie, while Asif was one of the best bowlers ever, toying with batsmen like Sachin, Laxman, Pieterson, Kallis, AB is no joke. If he did that against those powerful players with the best techniques then he will feast on the players of today.

His bowling intelligence will nullify the recent rules favouring batsmen, im sure of it.

Abbas and Hasan are new in Tests while Amir has been ordinary so far in Tests. Doesn't bowl over or at 140 even. Pitches being flat seem like he doesn't want to put the extra effort.

Asif never relied on pace, he's around 125 at what he operated and puts it where he wants and what he wants the ball to do.

Pakistan should bring back Mohammad Asif if they want to win in England

The English batting lineup is no where near to the level of 2011-2013, when their team was topping the charts. The newbies have not been exposed to the kind of top quality bowling Asif can offer. Imagine if the likes of KP and Trott had difficulties negotiating Asif, what chance do Stoneman, an ageing Cook, Malan and the likes have? Just remember that 15 overs of quality swing had them at 27/9 in NZ.

Asif can wreak havoc.
And yes, Asif's averaged 15.8 for 22 wickets in his last 4 tests concluded in late 2017, so he pretty much still has it in him. :asif

Thoughts.

Why don’t we bring Wasim and Waqar back , they can still bowl at asif ‘s speed and are superior bowlers too.

You know this is not the worst thing ive heard but because of his dealings in the past PCB wont bring him back

Haven't had a look at him since he didn't play at the PSL at all.

Good bowling numbers in Pakistan domestic is a bit of a crapshoot.

Therefore no point picking him at the expense of new, exciting talent.

Stop with this nonsense please. He is a criminal and should never be seen on the cricket field again. Lets bring back sarfraz nawaz as well given his skill back in the day.

It's a troll thread.

Wasn't the same thing said last time? And we managed to come back 2-2.

Courtesy Yasir, who isn't playing this time.

Why isn't Yasir playing?

And you are overestimating Asif's current level. I have seen his domestic performances. He was making batsmen dance on green pitches with the new ball but afterwards he was basically useless. His fitness was terrible to say the least. Asif was a gem back in the day but he is past it now. Also he is a serial offender so no more chances for him.

Yasir is injured.

The way England has been batting, Asif can do enough damage in early spells while Amir and Hasan/Wahab can do the finishing job.
