Roy Harper - When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease

A calming and melancholic track that on its surface is about the temporality of the game and the individuals who play it. However, on further examination, it is really about life. Cricket and its intricacies are used as a metaphor for life itself and how everything must eventually come to an end.

The Duckworth Lewis Method - Jiggery Pokery

A hilarious track about Shane Warne's legendary ball of the century to Mike Gatting on Day Two of the first Test of the 1993 Ashes. It is narrated from Gatting's perspective. But what I feel makes it so listenable is the universality of it. Any batsman that has ever been deceived and outdone by a spin bowler can relate to this song. The rhymes are also very witty.

The Duckworth Lewis Method - Meeting Mr Miandad

This one is especially or the Pakistani fans. An absurd track in which the narrator has a dream about Javed Miandad and is inspired to travel to Pakistan in order to meet him. I feel that this song is just very well composed and written. Extremely catchy as well.

Paul Kelly - Bradman

A homage to one of the most legendary cricketers to have ever played the game.

'When an old cricketer leaves the crease' is utterly brilliant. It's extremely melancholic in that it evokes a sense of mortality and loss, ringing true to the fact that cricket is the ultimate parable for life.

Thanks so much for sharing. Would have never found out about these songs otherwise. Meeting Mr. Miandad is so homely, bizarre, and catchy, all at the same time. Without any colonial complexes/hangovers, it makes me proud as a Pakistani that a band of foreign origin made a song about him (perhaps more because of randomness than anything), but still it's super cool!
