Can someone please locate this fan and respectfully ask him to return the cap. And please drop Yasir Shah, keep the cap in the PCB museum or somewhere stored away safely

Why are people so mad at this? Very nice and wholesome gesture from Yasir.

This isn’t a PlayStation 4 game that he has given to a fan. Test caps are precious, unless you as a cricketer do not value Test cricket then I guess it’s hard to explain.

They are definitely precious and shouldn't be given away much but I guess he is near the end of the career and can easily get another. Maybe it was just an extra cap he had. But it was nice from him.

Disgraceful from Yasir Shah

Hopefully this is his last test match

Clear indication that Yasir has realised time is up.

He has dutifully pirouetted the cap away into the sunset to an unassuming fan. Yasir’s job done, having conceded more than 100 runs and having taken another graceful step towards matching Bradman’s batting average with his bowling average, he is content and would now like to retire.

PAK are in dire need of a spin bowling coach to help Zafar et al emulate Yasir’s greatness. It is here where we should expect to see Yasir soon. Locked in a tight embrace with Waqar. Within 2 years PAK will have several legendaddy pacers and legengrandaddy spinners.

If he had his wickets at below 25 bowling average, this would be ignored. Everything looks worse when you are not performing as per expectations.

Yasir clearly doesn't realize the significance of his original test cap.

Much ado about morning. Pakistan doesn’t have a culture of ‘baggy green’ where players treasure the actual cap and wear it across their careers. So this cap doesn’t have the same significance that the baggy green has for an Australian cricketer. Most matches they wear new caps and often the design also changes.

Heck Shahid Afridi has a home museum for cricket memorabilia and has the most random jerseys and whatnot but not any cap because that simply isn’t a thing about our team.

So I wouldn’t be harsh on Yasir and almost certainly I’m sure he isn’t wearing his first test cap.

Who cares, it's just a cap. Yasir has plenty and will continue to be the first name on any Misbah team until he retires.

Pakistan will likely be going home humiliated on the field, so the least we can do is make a good impression on our hosts in the ways that we can. You only have to look at the reaction of the fan to see the difference it made for him.

Don't think I've ever seen this happen during a match.

I wonder why he did it.

Me, I wouldn't want to give my cap to anyone!

A wonderful gesture of promoting goodwill and reaching out to NZ fans. The lucky guy will support Pakistan forever. Others in the crowd appreciated it and so did the commentators. It is important for Pakistan players to interact with their opponents, umpires, local media and fans. After all, they are ambassadors for their country.

Appreciate Yasir Shah for his strong points, i.e. Pakistan's best spinner for many years, works to improve his fitness and batting, always smiling and has a positive attitude, patriotic, supportive of his teammates, no scandals, etc.
Thank you Yasir Shah!

Is he retiring or what? Test caps are precious and preserved by players. Very casual from Yasir! Clearly doesn’t hold it in high value... disappointed

im pretty sure pak players dont wear the same test cap throughout their careers. either the orginal are kept somewhere else, or they keep replacing them through the years.

look at some of the aussie guys, there caps are tattered and worn, pak players have pristine looking caps everytime.

no way is azhar's cap in the pic below 10 years old.

True. Look at Steve Waugh’s cap if you get a chance, torn with white stains of sweat.

Yes, and even in Australia the reverence for the baggy green might be considered an "invented tradition" as it seems that it is only relatively recently that it is acquired great symbolic value.

Ian Chappell said it was merely “a five-dollar piece of cloth,” and only “now it’s given this huge fanfare. That’s ********. Bill Lawry used to use it to clean out the loft and it was covered in pigeon droppings.”

And here is the piece from where the Chappell quote comes from

If its the original cap no way should he be giving his cap away.but if its a replicate then its fine

The caps don't have intrinsic value, so it's fine even if it was his original cap and he gave it away, as it may not have any sentimental value to him.

Great gesture, love to see it.

Great gesture for the kid. A little surprised at the level of emotional attachment to caps here...

Pakistani's dont really place a lot of value in these Test caps and if they don't, we dont need to force them to do so. It is their choice. Just because the English and Australians have always done something a certain way, doesnt mean we have to. In fact, this just shows, we as Pakistani's are not slaves to their established principles of what is to be done and what is not.

Pakistani Test cap has no worth these days. Club level cricketers have them in possession nowadays.

Moreover, as mentioned already, there is no value associated with the Pakistani Test captain. It is not like the Australian baggie green.

People will bash Yasir Shah for having a glass of water these days, just so that they can take attention away from our garbage young players.

Hat has no value in our cricketing culture. He probably has 6 more in his kit bag or locker.

His original cap is probably at home.

The cap he gave looks ln great shape rather than something worn through 42 Tests.

These are not precious when you get a new one every series. Pakistani Test caps are no different to the Limited Overs caps. They keep getting a new one with every new kit set.

Yasir clearly doesn't realize the significance of his original test cap.

His original Test cap has not been used since 2014. Our players keep getting new caps every series. No one carries the original with them.

Yes, It must be very common for all Test players across the world to entertain the crowd by giving their replica caps that they are wearing in a Test match to the fans

Most Test teams don’t hand out new caps all the time. They wear the original one and they are worn out and discolored.

It is a complete non-issue, but Yasir will be bashed for anything these days.

Pretty sure Yasir has 2-3 of these in his kitbag right now. I don’t think we just give one test cap for the rest of their lives like Aus.

Also, Musa Khan has a Test cap. These really aren’t as valuable as Australian baggy greens.

No respect for national test cap, ridiculous.

Lol! Yasir is quite the simpleton. Poor guy has absolutely no idea that you just don't hand your test cap (regardless if it's the original) to fans.

I've always wondered why Pakistanis didn't wear their original test caps, why they don't have this culture of wearing their original test cap, which is a really nice thing the Aussies do. There's no way in hell that's his original cap and he must have plenty of spares. I reckon the supporter was already wearing a Pakistani cap so Yasir gave him one better than that.

This reminded me of an incident. A bowler ( I think Fakhar Zaman) was bowling wearing his hat that too backwards. Gavaskar was fuming on commentary how this is disrespectful to the game lol. For godsake, its just a sport jersey not army uniform.

It's a cap, not like Undertaker's urn that he might lose powers without it. And not all teams have established cap worshipping in their cricket.

If anything, isn't cap worshipping kind of haram?

Pakistan needs all the positive OR it can get and this is a small gesture which goes a long way in Pakistanis earning genuine friendships and respect.

The bloke who got the cap and all Kiwis who saw it and applauded it, will in future most definitely think twice about booing Pakistanis or making fun of them. Is that not worth more.

Indians and Pakistanis take tremendous pride in playing for the nation. Nationalism is a big part of our upbringing. The baggy green culture helped Aussies develop the emotions that already existed in Indian and Pakistani cricketers.

Yasir may be going through a tough run but he's always been a fighter even in the field. He may have become trash but his right is still in the right place and always has been..

Some people just need an excuse to channel their inner negativity on people

We shouldn't do every thing the Aussie team does. We have our own culture. Caps get old and sweaty, it's just a material thing. I am sure they change the cap every match.

It's a cap. Just because Steve Waugh gave it reverence, which was entirely personal, suddenly it is the symbol of the nation.

Yasir has bigger issues to solve namely, how to not bowl tripe in the next test.

And Yasir Shah gifts his wicket to the New Zealand bowlers.

What a tame dismissal.

It reminded me of as a youngster when the under 11s would be facing the under 19s in the nets and would back away with their eyes closed against the quicker bowlers.

A cowardly dismissal, from a cricketer who has had a very poor match once again.

Time to give a retirement gift to him, he has been liability to the team from last couple of years.

Getting tired of Yasir's antics now. Seems more interested in being a joker than a proper cricketer.

pakistani fans will bash a player for any reason they could find.

Go to the lunch with an indian thread, and all of the posters are going crazy that the players were not humble or something. As if these people were at the house. They based the criticism on some 2 min clip.

Now, an asset owned by Yasir shah is given away by himself, fans also have problem with that aswell.

His hat, can sit on it or even burn it. Big deal

I didnt realize how bad it was until I saw this

he should only play in asain condition were he would be ok and should not play in sena .i actually blame the management for playing him

The dismissal was horrendous and overall he is a liability outside of Asia.

However, I think this is a nice gesture, it was clearly not his original cap and he made the fans day.

He has no confidence in himself. He knows that he is bowling trash, soon he will be out of the team.
