[VIDEOS] Zahid Mahmood - International Cricket Performance Watch Thread

Abrar from the current squad, and Zafar in the domestic pool would have been picked by any sane team management (including selectors) but our selectors and management have to do mental gymnastics to grab some limelight.

Neither Zafar or Abrar are going to be solutions to our spin problem.

Its not a wicket to bash a bowler. But i will be surprised if he averages less then 50 he ends up playing 5-6 tests

Neither Zafar or Abrar are going to be solutions to our spin problem.

Their is a massive difference between their domestic stats, while Abrar may still not turn out to a consistent test wicket taker, he has time. Zahid Memood on the other hand is not even A team material, how he played in ODI's and then played a test match tells us more about our selections and final x1 selection procedure than zahid's talent which is limited to start with).

Difficult to judge him on this track alone, but boy did he half bowl some utter rubbish.

You don't go for 319 runs in 44 overs due to bad luck.

Let's not pretend he's not been tonked in the white ball cricket aswell.

It's not just this game where he's bowled utter trope.

Pretty average bowler. Has no business being selected ahead of Nawaz or the new mystery spinner.

He bowled a couple of very good overs in his T20 debut. I was quite impressed.

But he has bowled rubbish ever since.

Abrar won't last long. The only mystery is how long he will last. Zafar doesn't the ball enough and his use of the crease is very poor. Find a left arm spinner, who spins the ball, but that is the million dollar question, who?

How else are you going to fix the spin problem by not picking your best spinner in your only FC tournament and someone who has been doing very well in county for 2 years now? An ideal test spinner needs some FC experience under his belt (20-30 FC matches probably), but picking someone who was benched for majority of the season and averages 37 in over a decade long FC career is definitely not the option or a part timer like Agha.

How else were Yasir, Ajmal, Abdur Rehman and Kaneria noticed?

The problem is easily identifiable but there isn't any obvious solution. You can pick both but neither will uproot any trees.

We have to choose our best to represent us. Although the cupboard is pretty much empty, but these two have been amongst the best in recent times. Mubasir is developing as well. Let's see how he progresses. On the other hand, I won't be surprised if Wasim ends up calling up someone like Usama Mir or Usman Qadir out of the blue for the next 2 tests.

Options are poor. The most talented left arm spinner is Asghar but he tries too much and has lost control.

Zafar isn't very good. It's a poor option, Asghar needs guidance but does spin the ball. Zafar can't unless I missed something

Actually Zafar can spin the ball a lot. Not judging by his PSL performance. If you saw him bowl in UAE in his solitary ODI, he was spinning a lot. He's been taking a lot of wickets consistently in county as well for last 2 seasons. Asghar isn't ready for test cricket. He'll be undercooked like Simon Kerrigan right now

See better spinner in sunday league cricket. Pie thrower.

The first test should be his last test as well. He should be playing club cricket where he belongs

Zafar gohar has decent performances at Gloucester and recently concluded qea he also is no mug with the bat

I think pakistan missed a trick in not selecting nawaz gohar shadab all 3 in playing xi. I don't think they are worse with the bat than saud or salman agha or azhar ali. Shadab is a pretty decent batsmen.

Maybe that northern spinner mubasir might be worth a try .

Also it might have been better if he bought in the 2 young guys tall hit the deck type bowlers in muhammad ali and ihsanullah they look quicker than that muhammad ali.
I also don't know why mir hamza the left arm swing bowler keeps getting overlooked

Mubasir is good enough to bat definitely at 7.

Pakistan persisting with Zahid for the 2nd Test...

What leverage does this guy have over team management?! Surely they are not selecting him through choice based on his skills or performances?!

National cap has become too cheap. This guy can lose you games.
Too much pressure from the sindh lobby and Babar s terrible talent identification skills.

He averaged 45 in this season of QAE and overall average is 38.

Lucky man…..

I would have rather played an alrounder who averages 38 with the ball but at least 20 odd with the bat.

Worst genuine spinner ever to play test cricket this guy.

Makes you think how can the management be so dumb.

It's completely counter-productive to having him in the team. Even if he picks up wickets he gets tonked. And that hasn't just been the case in this series. He has been getting smashed in domestic for a couple of years now.

As Waqar said, he bowls one good ball and then completely loses it by bowling too short or just losing his line and length.

A bowler like him may be successful in T20s. But in a format like test cricket you need consistency and discipline to be successful over a long period. Neither of which he has.

He doesn't have a googly or a flipper. He bowls predictable leg spin with the same guile ball after ball, even tail enders will get comfortable after a while.

He shouldn't play test cricket at all

Hopefully Naseem is fit enough and replaces him in the next match

Got smashed around again and then clawed it back with some tailenders wickets.

Not convinced by this guy at the international level.

Rubbish bowler

No control, his bowling had cost us the last game, and now can cost Pakistan this game as well with his expensive spell.

I also think Babar overused him today with Abrar keeping pressure from other hand he should have gone with Nawaz from other end first

I have seen better bowlers in club cricket, again poor sqaud selection to have him in 1st place, then to include him in final 11 was a joke. Mo Wasim and Babar have a lot to Answer for.

Awful bowler. Even Nauman uncle and Sajid Khan are better than this guy.

Not bowled in the second dig just yet.

I think we are all dreading the sight of him.

Except the England batters of course.

He makes Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan look like Rangana Herath and Graeme Swann.

And Saqlain's specialist subject is meant to be spin bowling. What a farce !

His stock ball is the one that drops short

His surprise delivery is when it’s pitched up

9/430 at the moment in the series

Average of 47.77

Economy rate of 7.08

3 wickets this morning for Zahid Mahmood

Do we need him for Karachi Test or we out of options?

Wonder if his brief foray into international cricket is now over for good

With Abrar Ahmed surfacing, Zahid Mahmood may have to do on the bench, until another Leg spinner surfaces in First Class cricket.

It should never have started, in red-ball cricket at least. He only got his Test cap due to the genius of Saqi's first-come-first-serve philosophy of selection.

Too short and doesn’t flip the switch, he is meant to be a T20 bowler right, you need show the variation when you’re getting smacked like that.

Put pressure back on us when the spin web should have been getting thicker. Will most likely be his last game unless he can pull the rabbit out of the hat in the 3rd innings

He is unlucky that all his tests have been against the bazballers who don't let him settle. Leggies need to ease into the game a bit.

I hope he gets a game against other opposition to grow in confidence.

He will not improve. He averaged 40+ in the last two domestic seasons so he's struggling even at that level.

At age 36 (official) you'd think he'd have some basic control.

20 years ago when we had that generation of spinners including Saqlain, Mushtaq, Kaneria, Arshad, Afridi and co, this guy wouldn't have even got a FC gig.

Represented Pakistan in nine international matches, taking 20 wickets

In 74 first-class matches, he has picked up 226 wickets

Happy Birthday to the Leggie, Zahid Mahmood
