Hi all,

I am planning to visit Azad Kashmir this summer (july) and would like to see Neelum Valley. From a little web research it appears that the Neelum Valley road infrastructure isnt very good and one has to travel on a 4x4 jeep. I ve already done the Gigit-Baltistan route previously, so want to see something different this time.

So has anyone else got experience of travelling on the Neelum Valley road? Any suggestions and tips are welcome!

Thanks

That's the route I took. Upto muzaffrabad the roads are great you shouldn't have no problem even though there was roadworks in murree but I travelled in 2019 so that should be completed. However after muzaffrabad there was some roadworks for widening and new road laying that should be completed now too. Once you get closer to ahtmuqam the roads get bad very bumpy. I travelled In one of those new hiaces. Not the most comfortable of rides lol snows alot and rains alot in summer so loads of rock sliding occurs which damages the surfaces so hard to keep maintaining those roads. I do advise once you travel in to ahtmuqam and any further locations wherever it's night fall spend the night there as often sliding happens so you don't wanna leave all your luggage etc at certain hotel and expect to make it back in time to that said hotel.

My advise is you can travel in car if you want but a 4x4 would be more comfortable. Avoid travelling in a hiace unless there's a large group of you.
