1996 World Cup Quarter Final when Roger Harper, Keith Arthurton and Jimmy Adams knocked South Africa out?

Very strange pitch today. It was quite flat in first half of first innings then suddenly became a spitting cobra.

What kind of pitch was made for todays match?

I'm not defending Pakistani batsmen and their timid approach, but it suddenly started turning viciously after 30th over of the first innings. A set batsman like Williamson forgot how to bat on this pitch.

A good ODI pitch is suppose to behave similar for 100 overs either it is bowling friendly or batting paradise unless there is dew later part of the match. Our curators are pathetic, this match was lost on toss.

The kind of pitch where NZ read it will and played 3 spinners

Yes they made a blunder but Nawaz wasn't turning a lot before 30th over, it wouldn't have matter much.

It was a decent ish pitch. NZ were brilliant a reading it.Babar and Riz partnership killed the momentum with how how not to chase a sub par total masterclass.
Babar said he was going to bowl anyway!
😆

This was an excellent cricket pitch. Wish it was rolled out for the test matches.

They were pathetic, not defending them but the pitch wasn't ideal at all. It started turning a lot after 30th overs, they scored 80 runs odd for 8 wickets after that phase.

it would have been okay if the pitch was turning from ball 1, it wasn't the case at all.

NZ batsmen kept running on the pitch despite repeated warnings by Dar. I think that did something.

Welcome to the new era of pitches. NOT.

This pitch was needed in Test series and the Test pitches were needed in ODI series. PCB got it reversed.

I dont take Waqar’s analysis seriously. He is fluking most of the times. Poor analyst and commentator.

Probably because there had been 15 days of Test cricket and 1 ODI played on this ground in the last month.

We're the lights at full effect after 30 overs?
Could be dur to that?

Right, but Rizwan's innings hurt us again.. If you play with that SR after taking up that many balls you need to finish. Not an easy pitch for a new batsman.

Poor game management and brain dead stuff from our players.

I liked the pitch. Pitches should support bowling.

Just because Pakistani batsmen kept blocking does not mean it was a bad pitch. It was a 5 RPO pitch which is good enough for ODIS.

Some clueless people taking an opportunity to gun down Rizwan and Babar, when it was obvious after NZ's batting 30th over that pitch was getting difficult to bat. Even expereinced players like Haris,Imam, Fakhar, Nawaz struggled. Possibly Babar could had taken a bit more risk earlier but at the same time he could had been back in pavilion earlier too.

pitch curators have no idea what they are doing... similar to our batting approach :kakmal

Blimey. This pitch excuse is getting out of hand.

We simply are rubbish at the moment!

Simple, Plain, Harsh truth.

Can’t chase 270 odd at home.

We lost early wickets to pacers and then didn’t have a clue vs spin.

Tailendedrs like Usama and Wasim asked to slog.

Horrendous show of no planning!

It was Naseem who opened the gate and allowed no more momentum to NZ

If it wasn’t for that wicket, NZ would have scored 330+ on this wicket

Last few weeks / months all Pakistan (board, players, commentators, etc.) have done is moan about their own pitches. Typically only England does this when they lose.

I loved the pitch to be honest , tired of all the flat phattas.

It played pretty well for first say 30 overs and then when the moisture left it became extremely dry and delicious. Looking forward to more pitches like this to somehow counter no reverse swing due to two new balls rule.

It was like a 7th day test wicket. Ridiculous in an ODI to be producing such tripe. I didnt see the NZ batting but our bowling must have been terrible for NZ to score 250 on that wicket. it looked a 210 wicket at best if not less

Regardless of the pitch, Kane and Conway batted beautifully on it. They were slowed down by the spin as well from the 9th-20th over

But they still backed themselves to play with intent and were rewarded

The Xavi and Iniesta of modern day batting

Honestly anyone who actually watched the match would know that the pitch was turning square in 2nd innings. It was more of a 200 plays 200 pitch but was strangely flat for the first 30 overs.

It wasn’t strangely flat

Naseem had nothing to do with Pakistan chasing down the score, total was similar today despite Xavi and Iniesta's beautiful efforts but the pitch behaviour changed and NZ batsmen as well almost all Pakistani batsmen struggled thereon. True Babar should had troed to pace the inning a bit better, but the needless shot by Haris and the run outs did not help the chase.

It was a good pitch and hopefully it keeps the batters on thier toes that you should not relax.

We don’t have a replacement keeper either

Getting sick of this

We have to many fast bowlers in the squad hasnain should have been dropped for either a spinner or a wicket keeper batesman.

Mohammad Nawaz

"This pitch was different as compared to typical Karachi pitch. Spinners were getting assistance and that was the reason why both teams couldn't continue batting longer"

Excuses. The only bad pitch is a flat pitch. Our boys can't even play second-class spinners if the pitch is offering a bit of help, Don't want to imagine these guys batting on Indian pitches.

Pitches change very often even in 2nd innings of T20 as we saw in 2021 WT20.

In the previous ODI, the pitch got better after the 35th over of the 2nd innings. Whereas in this one, the pitch was good for batting in the 1st 30 overs of the 1st innings. After that the bounce became increasingly inconsistent and the ball turned a lot more as well.

KW made the right decision to bat first.

Indian LOI pitches are different from what India prepares for England and Australia test matches.
If Pakistan keeps playing on such low bounce and slow tracks they will find it difficult to handle bounce and pace even on some of the Indian wickets. Spin will be lesser of an issue in my opinion.

Maybe we shouldn't play so many matches at one ground ?

It's ridiculous how we haven't developed another ground in Karachi or Sindh to international standards.

Mitchell Santner:

The left-arm slow bowler took the key wicket of Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan attempted to chase New Zealand’s 261 batting first on a pitch which offered plenty of bounce and turn.

“It's nice when the wickets spin like today ... [I'll] try and wrap this wicket up and take it back to New Zealand, cos it doesn't really do that at home,” Santner said.
