Umar Akmal was asked by Haroon Rasheed to come the next day for fitness test to join the team in Sri Lanka for the ODIs, instead he chose to catch a flight to Caribbean for a lucrative league without informing anyone.

Few months later, when he was caught in the Hyderabad incident or misbehaving with his domestic team coach, all times he managed to retain his place back in team.

Is this what criteria we are setting for selection of new players? Andrew Symonds was a very talented player for Australia or Kevin Peterson for England but due to their behaviour they was dropped and never picked again irrespective of their talent.

Are we bold enough to take this step or do we fear media or pressure from different people to play certain players? I can assure you that sacrificing one Umar Akmal will allow us to develop other players who can truly and proudly wear the star on their chest and represent Pakistan.

Wish this had been followed

One need to reveal who is behind akmals. They are not that rich or influential gang, there must be a political/military corrupt source which make sure that akmals despite their countless shenanigans will always stay in the mainstream.

Umar should've been banned a long time ago.

The first glimpse of his true colors were when he faked an injury in protest of his older brother being dropped. He was simply reprimanded for it and nothing else was done. The most baffling thing is he dared to do something like that after barely a few matches into his career.

He should have recieved a ban the way Butt and co did. How can you lie about your physical state when you are a central contracted player for your country? That too so that your brother isn't dropped. My word these brothers act as if Pakistan belongs to their family

Not sure if UA was on contract list then.

They do. I mean Umar akmal said that since Arthur insulted him, it means he insulted whole of Pakistan

The Waqar Younis haters seem to have into hiding.:uak

Too bad Waqar didn't have the courage to get rid of Umar Akmal, thank god we have Mickey Arther now to make all those tough decisions

Not sure about courage, but it helps Mickey that he's come after years of shocking behaviour and enraging multiple coaches. On top of which, he's no Pietersen or Symonds, when it comes to skill, ability or performance.

I am not a big fan if waqar the coach. But It wasn't waqar's fault. There were too many peiple in the pcb qho were screwing with waqars decisions at that time. Remember when ua was out with moin khan in some casini back in 2015 wc. Waqar mentioned that in his report too.

Thing is umar is backed by a very strong political family aka you know who they are (the lords of punjab) which is why sethi and shehryar sheikh tolerated this douchebag and always dealt with him softly. That is why i think that once mickey's tenure is over, this douchebag will again find a way into the team.

Pakistani board has always been riddled with such tales of blatant favoritism from the past to the present. Do read on some of the selectorial stuff by pcb done back in the 70's or 80's and you will get a clear idea. Thank god there is media now so we can at least shame them and call them out. Back then they did what they wanted to do

I'm thinking Umar may have destroyed all hope of a come back with this stunt. What political family is going to back him after he insulted the coach of the team that just won the Champions Trophy? Arthur has ensured he will be around a while with that win.

What he did was a complete act of betrayal towards his team and nation. I'm not saying that rotten apples exist only in Pakistan, they exist in every nation. The thing is every board needs to make an example out of these rotten apples or else it leaves an extremely bad precedent.

That Waqar could see Umar was a trouble maker does not make him a good coach. Waqar's coaching blunders are well documented.

Re-read what I actually wrote, my friend. When WY removed UA from the team there were a lot of posters attacking Waqar, and they even cited UA's removal as further evidence that he was a bad coach and that he had an "agenda". Some went as far as saying the leaked report was evidence for such an agenda. :)) Such posters should show some humility.

More generally, I think people should put their views about WQ's coaching ability in perspective. I think he had the right ideas and was well-intentioned but there were implementation issues. A lot of that came from external factors such as lack of support from PCB, his relationship with Afridi etc. Obviously he has to take some of the responsibility for that though. All that said, he did a decent job with the test team. Only time will tell how successfully he has learnt from his mistakes- his tenure at Multan Sultans should be interesting.

(ps. +1 for your signature- it made me chuckle).

There is a pattern of behaviour with Umar Akmal and lets not forget that. Waqar/Mickey will move on with their lives but Umar Akmal still has a career in front of him.

Our political families don't care for such logic. It they were that decent, they wouldn't be holding dharna's for a legit convicted criminal

But Waqar made him work too hard.
But Waqar was a tyrant.
But Waqar was too harsh on the players.
But Waqar picked on Umar Akmal.

It's never Umar Akmal's fault.

Lol most of the anti Waqar folk held his proposed axing of Shehzad and Akmal jr as the main 'evidence' of him being a bad coach

Hilariously most of them hated Waqar for this reason only
