Waqar Younis to leave tour for personal reasons - the Pakistan bowling coach will fly to Australia today and not be available for the remainder of the tour of Zimbabwe.

One has to have some sympathy for him as he hasnt seen his family for almost 11 months now.

Waqar could be an awful bowling coach, but at a human level it's got to be enormously difficult to not have seen his family for close to a year. Add to that the tragedy of his father passing away last year, one can't but sympathize with Waqar.

He was telling me he's not seen his family for 2 months, not been home for 11 months. And when back in Sydney he will have to do 14 days quarantine.

I guess the cricketing fraternity who don't live in the country they are working for, have probably been hit the hardest due to Covid.

He is going back to be with his wife who will be undergoing surgery soon.

IF that is true, all the best wishes for her and their family. Regardless, it can't have been easy the past year+ living away from family completely. I've had to live away from family since covid started, it isn't easy. At least I'm in one place with a relatively stable routine. For him, living out of suitcase is probably even tougher.

I believe he was planning to permanently move to Pakistan with his family in 2020 but it appears he has put aside those plans because of Covid. He and his wife, kids are all Australian citizens, his wife became a doctor in Australia a few years ago and there was no more motive for them to stay on in Australia.

Aren’t these all reasons to stay in Australia not move away?

If I'm not wrong , his wife did her MBBS from FJ Medical College Lahore and she did her training in Australia also, where she is an Emergency room physician . Foreign trained doctors do very well in Pakistan but with kids growing up and going to colleges and universities, its hard for parents to bring them back to Pakistan from western countries.

Different people have different priorities. My uncle moved from a comfortable life in Canada to go back to Pakistan because he wanted to be closer to his father and to raise his teenage daughters back home in Pakistan.

11 months???!!!! Incredible.

I know there is money and then there is love for this game, but still, I cant understand why would anyone as well off as Waqar would choose a life like that.

You can’t deny his love for the game and wanting to give back. Very few people would spend a year away from their families like this if they didn’t have passion for what they were doing.

We're quick to blame his performance yet the one thing we cannot bash him on is his sincerity to Pakistan cricket. He can choose to live a comfortable lifestyle like the other W but at least he tries to give back to the game

I respect him as a fast bowler, but he is not a good leader and/or coach. He's been coaching since 2005, and didn't even improve a single bowler. Great player doesn't have to make great coach. If I was the PCB chief, I wouldn't have offered him a position

Rumours are that Waqar would be resigning from his position due to personal reasons after PSL. Blessing in disguise if true.

Can't blame him. You can't be away from your family for 10 months in a year. That takes a huge toll

On the plus side, one has to give Waqar credit for actually putting himself forward for the bowing coach role. I look at some other former players and they have never bothered to put their name forward for such a role.

Look he's not the most technical of coaches, there are better coaches around, but many of the players say that he does a good job with them.

I guess at the end of the day, the PCB will decide whether they will keep him in the role.
