Waqas Maqsood - First impressions

Keep em coming, we as a nation are blessed with over the hill fast bowlers

Reasonably accurate and can move the ball around. Too slow and too old for international cricket. Unlike several other domestic toilers I'm glad that he did manage to get the 1 international cap.

Done well so far in the Qualifier vs Multan - had one catch dropped also

Might not be the paciest, but definitely has a good control over his line and length and swing. Also a genuine wicket taker.

I like the slower cutter he bowls from the back of the hand.

He has 2 or 3 versions of the slower ball which is difficult for batsmen to read.

Doing that again and batsmen unable to score at will.

Very under rated bowler. Saw him warming up on his debut and his ball was just flying to the keeper. He picks up wickets in every game and is a good new ball bowler. I feel he gets unnecessary hate. Nice action as well.

Waqas Maqsood 3/41 for CP against KP on Day 2 of Round 4 of QeA20

6-25 in QAE against Sindh. Has been in really good form in last month or two.

Central Punjab had a strong 280-run second innings lead over Sindh when the second day’s play of the sixth round of first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy came to an end at the National Stadium on Thursday.

Central Punjab’s bowlers, helped by Waqas Maqsood’s scorching six for 25, dismissed Sindh for a paltry 92 in 29.3 overs in the fixture.

This was Waqas’ 11th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.

The 33-year-old accounted for both Sindh openers – Sharjeel Khan (14) and Omair Bin Yousuf (four) – before sending Tabish Khan (nine), Mir Hamza (16), Abrar Ahmed (0) and Shahnawaz Dhani (0) back to the hut.

Waqas performance today:

Almost always had the ability to move the ball both ways and showing again in this QAE. 3rd wicket moved away from the left hander while 4th wicket moved away from the right hander.

Very good bowler, bowls the perfect line and length, very difficult to take for boundaries too.

Dont know but the guy does something .. lol... we shld hate him bcz

1) He isnt tall
2) No pace
3) No SWAG

but he keeps getting wickets left right and center... red / white ball... longer / shorter format ...

can he play international?

Good bowler. Always seems to be doing something with the ball. Unfortunately too old. I wonder why he came to the fore so late. Seems like he's been playing domestic cricket for some time.

Worth a punt in test where we are mediocre? For Pakistan 🇵🇰 a new ball bowler is worth gold in weight. Pace doesn't matter if u can make the ball talk. Look at Southee age and speed. We definitely lack his type of bowler. Throw is Hasan Ali and maybe our fortunes change while Naseem and Hasnain can develop for a few years in domestic

Go series by series for test matches

Naseem is not ready
Abbass is a club level bowler now

Shaheen, Hasan and Waqas

We need skilled and stamina bowlers who don't leak runs regardless of speed. These fit the bill. We don't need inexperienced enforcers YET

Should've been taken on tour for ENG and NZ ahead of Sohail Khan.

He definitely would have shown more control than some youngsters who are being forced to adjust to international requirements without much FC experience.

Pak selection policy is kind of a magic box, when you think you have seen it all something else pops up and this time it has been with overdoing of fast tracking.

This guy is nothing but a trundler debut him in test match and he might fluke one or two performance but will eventually end up like tanvir ahmed , sohail tanvir , shahid nazir , aizaz cheema, samiullah khan niazi , yasir araft all these bowlers were better fc bowlers than this guy but couldn't cut it at the top level because they didn't have the intl quality , fitness, or were picked way past their prime

Just look at abbas how the decline has set in after his first 10 games

Been found out opposition have analysed him

He has fudged his age so age has caught up eventually along with shoulder injury the guy is a no better bowler than that indian bowler who I remember played in England and was bowling 70 75 mph much to the amusement of Ian Botham and bumble in commentary praveen kumar I believe it was , india eventually got rid

Decline of Abbas is due to his pace dropping. The only analysis is play him out of your crease but we can get the keeper to stand next to stumps but surprisingly Rizwan didn't. Waqas can give us a few years before Naseem and Dhani are ready

Has good domestic stats this year and was going at less than 3 rpo but i would only replace him with abbas and not naseem

I don’t understand- the first page of this thread is filled with comments saying he’s a trundler, over the hill, backyard cricketer who can’t bowl faster than 120 kph and shouldn’t play.

And then on page 2 there are comments saying he is good and should be selected.

Either this nation suffers from short term memory loss or he has transformed himself from Ashish Nehra to Shoaib Akhtar in 2 years.

Why do we care so much about future planning in test matches? There is no tournament to be played so play your best players

We are always building for a mythical golden future that never comes. Pakistan is the only major Test side that treats Test cricket like a gulli danda match where everyone gets a turn.

Left-armer Waqas Maqsood took four for 77, to finish the tournament with 41 wickets, Hasan Ali who took one wicket for 67, finished the season as the highest wicket-taking fast bowler with a tally of 43 wickets.

He is skilful bowler, shame about his age. Would have been more than handy on those NZ pitches

How was he ignored in favour of Sohail Khan, Imran Khan and Musa Khan this past year ?

One of the few victims of Misbah's and Waqar eye for talent. He is a consistent domestic performer for some year now. Anyone can see from a naked eye that he has good accuracy and can swing the ball both ways from same area but, unfortunately those skills are not considered for test selection under recent regimes.

Waqas Maqsood in T10 today
2 overs for 1 Run
Mohammed Nabi-Fidel Edwards-Dwayne Bravo
5 Overs for 101 runs

Compare what everyone said a couple of years ago( including me) to what most are saying now. The guy is very skilled and took us a long time to appreciate his skills.

Waqas done well in T10 League today, took 2/24 in overs for Bulls vs Northern

A quite dreadful 2 overs from him in the powerplay today against Multan. Conceded 32 runs.

Waqas Maqsood has just taken the biggest wicket in T20 cricket right now. He's sent Hafeez back to the dugout!

Fired up!

Excellent performance today

34 years of age, but he bowls very welll at depth.

Another ex-Karachi Kings player coming back to haunt them.

It was only two years ago that he bowled a magical spell in the PSL final for Karachi that was integral in winning them the match. And ofcourse Karachi did not retain him.

The fact that they lost by 1 run in the last over and the over was bowled by Waqas Maqsood somehow makes this sweeter.

why has waqas maqsood been overlooked for international cricket.

This guy has bowled well twice at depth for Islamabad united and by your accounts it seems this guy does well at depth overs.

Hasan ali and Waseem jr arn't ready and shouldn't be going with the Pakistan team. Should Waqas be given a chance?

Depth bowling at Pakistan level isnt as good, and this guy whille seems weak, what he bowls at depth often works.

Sorry bro that pace would not work in international cricket.

He hasn’t got the pace but he is a smart bowler. He uses variations very effectively.I don’t think he will successful at international level esp in SENA.Pakistan pitches suit his type of bowling.

I disagree. I rate Hasan Ali very highly because he is a complete bowler that can exceed in all formats. Waseem on the other hand has a far greater upside than most Pakistani fast-bowlers at his age. And by the looks of it he is also highly useful with the bat.

I'm also not that bothered about Pakistan's death-bowling because of Shaheen and Haris. Haris is statistically one of the best in the world at the death. And Shaheen has been steadily improving his death-bowling through the PSL and is someone who you can bank on for that role if the situation demands it.

Maqsood is pretty average in limited-overs. He can pull up great performances from time to time but he does not stand-out. His best format is clearly the longer format, for which he should have been selected a year ago when he was having his best QeA Trophy season.

That said, for a bowling attack such as that of Karachi Kings this guy would have been a blessing. He is certainly better than the likes of Umaid, Aamer Yamin, Ilyas

Waqas is a wily old fox.

Lots of experience and knows what he's doing.

Worked hard to get where he is.

He looks innocuous in limited overs bowling but he actually swings, seams the ball in red ball cricket.

Playing for Burnmoor CC in the North East Premier League and done well
