Six teams will be in action in Major League Cricket 2024, scheduled to be held in the USA’s Texas and North Carolina from 5th to 28th July.

MLC will hold its second edition after the inaugural edition took place last year.

MI New York are the defending champions. They defeated Seattle Orcas in the MLC 2023 final to claim the first Major League Cricket title.

The MLC 2024 season opener will see a rematch of last year’s final as MI New York take on Seattle Orcas once again at Church Street Park in North Carolina.

Later on the same day, Texas Super Kings will host the LA Knight Riders at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

The six teams will compete in 21 matches in a round-robin league format. The initial 15 matches will be split between the two venues - Church Street Park and Grand Prairie Stadium. However, the final six group matches and the knockout fixtures will all be held at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.

The teams will face each other once in the league phase, after which the top four sides will progress to the playoffs. The MLC 2024 final will take place at the Grand Prairie Stadium on 29th July.

Four of the six MLC teams are owned by franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL). These include MI New York (Mumbai Indians), Texas Super Kings (Chennai Super Kings), LA Knight Riders (Kolkata Knight Riders), and the Seattle Orcas (Delhi Capitals). The other two teams are San Francisco Unicorns and Washington Freedom.

All six teams will feature some top international cricketers in their squads for MLC 2024. MI New York boast former West Indian captain Kieron Pollard in their roster, while South African duo Wayne Parnell and Quinton de Kock will represent Seattle Orcas.

The Texas Super Kings squad is led by South African star Faf du Plessis, while West Indian off-spinner Sunil Narine will lead the LA Knight Riders.

Washington Freedom, coached by Ricky Ponting, boasts a strong Australian contingent with Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Travis Head in their ranks. New Zealand batter Finn Allen has joined the San Francisco Unicorns.

Nay. he moved on. No chance for him in Pakistan so he made a move like many others.

SFU win the toss and will bowl first

San Francisco Unicorns
(Playing XI): Jake Fraser-McGurk, Finn Allen, Josh Inglis(w), Matthew Short, Corey Anderson(c), Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Brody Couch, Hassan Khan, Liam Plunkett, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed

Los Angeles Knight Riders (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Sunil Narine(c), Unmukt Chand(w), Shakib Al Hasan, Nitish Kumar, David Miller, Andre Russell, Derone Davis, Corne Dry, Spencer Johnson, Ali Khan

MLC has some real star.players. Since USA has any domestic structure MLC relies a lot on overseas. It makes the competition more hight profile. It has shown a lot of potential.
So what do you think ? Do you watch it regularly ? Actually the TV coverage must say is very good and the grounds / outfields are lush green as well. Dont know how much the MLC will take off in the USA though. But the star players are high profile as you say. Who knows , it may end up as the 2nd richest league after IPL as a lot of the team owners are IPL based. Has to be a viable career path for local USA players to get more local involvement

Oh yeah I remember mukhtar Ahmed. Why did he even get dropped?

Dude averaged 40 with a sr of 91 in List A. In local t20 an average of 28 and sr of 146 is good?

He only played 6 T20's for pakistan and scored 2 Half centuries and averages 32 with a sr of 146 for pakistan.

Why was he even dropped? Nothing indicates he's put of form.

No clue mate. The weird and bizarre world of Pakistan cricket.

Needs to be questioned.

So wait, he's 31 and pakistani, and we let him go in 2023 because Rizwan was the Answer in t20 in 2020?

WHAT THE @^#^#:#

Maybe @Kianig89 can explain? He usually has amazing reasons as to why a player was written off.
Well I hope to see him open for USA next time since he's their. Should be their opener in the next cup that usa appears in.

@Kianig89 so why was mukhtar Ahmed dropped according to you?

Funny how Steve Smith (the captain) has dropped him down the lower order and have opted to open himself with Travis Head.

Surely MLC is the second strongest T20 league in the world after IPL? The quality of international players here is pretty good

Smith as a captain may have been okay but he ain't clean. He was rightfully banned for one year for his ball tampering nonsense.

Pat Cummings would have mukhtar and Travis open.

Zia ul Haq should have had Travis Head out. Another decent a Pakistan prospect slipped away!

Zia was tipped as the next big thing here for a very long time.

As was Ehsan Adil and Hammad Azam.

USA league is a decent standard fair play to these lads for giving it a go over there.

Remember Muhammad Hafeez, the Jaali Professor blessed in all facets, the untouchable he also had a fetish for opening thereby blocking all aspirants

MLC is not getting much attention this time IMO. It is not among the top 5 leagues for me.
IPL
BBL
PSL
SA20
BPL/LPL look still better.

Including PSL in the top 5 leagues is quite biased in my opinion.

The Hundred, IL T20 and CPL easily compete with PSL. And we should give credit where its due; MLC has much better players than in the PSL.

I think MLC has been great so far. I am liking the vibe.

MLC can become among top 3 (not there yet) within a few years.

Los Angeles Knight Riders vs Seattle Orcas 6th Match: Update

Los Angeles Knight Riders 168/5 (20)

Seattle Orcas 169/1 (19.5)
Seattle Orcas won by 9 wickets

It was another last-over finish in the Major League Cricket but the Seattle Orcas have taken home those two points. Thanks to the 152-run stand between Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton, they have managed to do it in style.

Seattle Orcas had a shaky start with the early dismissal of Nauman Anwar. However, a strong partnership between the South African pair of Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock released the pressure. Ryan Rickelton took the aggressive approach initially while de Kock took his time to get used to the conditions and then unleashed his array of shots. They dominated after the halfway mark of the innings and attacked every bowler. The constant rotation of strike too kept the pressure on the opponents and allowed them to bat freely. Ryan Rickelton got to his maiden T20 century while Quinton de Kock scored a half-century to finish things in their favor.

Who exactly is watching this, and where are they getting the money to pay top tier talent?

No real hype this time around for this league. People were already starting to think that this league is better than many out there like PSL etc. It is not. Really it is not.

The quality of players in MLC is far superior to those in PSL.

PSL is a mediocre league, really poor and unfit players, very low quality of cricket. High performers in PSL get easily exposed at the international level.

Washington Freedom have won the toss and have opted to field

Since three of the major IPL franchisees are owners or co-owners of MLC teams the respective franchise fans from IPL have an attachment towards these franchisees. It is a success. Big names, big sponsors. Now that the USA made it to the second round they have made rapid strides. Not quite the level as SA T20. But the USA is potentially going to challenge all the other leagues. The USA is a good place to spend time too with no restrictions. Players won't mind visiting here. ALso decent salary.

Seattle Orcas set a target of just 125 for Washington Freedom to chase down in 20 overs and now almost run-a-ball is required for them to win.

32 off 30 balls needed

The Seattle Orcas suffered their second loss of the season, finding themselves at the bottom of the table after a disappointing batting performance against the Washington Freedom.

Batting first, the Orcas could only manage a below-par score of 124, with Heinrich Klaasen's attacking fifty being the only bright spot. Lockie Ferguson and Saurabh Netravalkar were the pick of the bowlers for the Freedom, sharing seven wickets between them.

Despite a spirited bowling effort, the Orcas were unable to defend their low total. The Freedom, despite losing a few early wickets, chased down the target with five wickets and an unbeaten partnership between Lahiru Milantha (33 off 30) and Obus Pienaar (31 runs). This victory keeps the Washington Freedom as the only unbeaten team at the top of the table.

Except for the genuine pacers. All the Pakistanis that immigrated to the USA so far are finding MLC standard a bit too tough. No notable performances from them.

Sami Aslam was not even picked in this league. Shows it is not easy anywhere. You gotta work hard.

While they are playing in MLC because of the local quotas. They still have to compete with other players from India, South Africa, etc and the competition is not easy. You have to good enough of a player.

Yep. If Corey Anderson type players are there, who is going to ignore them for Sami Aslam until Sami has improved his game and worked hard for his spot.

Cricket has no future in USA. Why would anyone play cricket and earn 1m $ when you can play baseball and earn 100m$ and also fame and celebrity status in USA?

Surprised to see of the Pakistan expats playing in the league. Thought some had the potential to play for Pakistan such as Saif Badar, Hassan Khan & Mohammad Mohsin.

Some you could say, were hard done by selectors not picking them such as Ehsan Adil for Test format.

However some players just improve enough to warrant selection, such as Mukhtar Ahmed, Nauman Anwar & Hammad Azam.

Because not everything is about money?

Also, where is the guarantee a cricketer would succeed in baseball?

going by the quality of players this has to be the second or third best league going around. Wow just about every good T20 player from most countries are participating

MLC is quite a success in its own way but it still has a long way to go to be among the best like BBL or IPL. I think MLC is going to get bigger and bigger with every passing year. Players want to play in this league instead of BPL or LPL.

IN terms of representation MLC is second only to IPL. SO many star players from all over the world play.
They can pick much stronger teams than IPL. It’s only set back is the local USA players are ok whereas IPL has strong Indian home players

True. Pressure free matches with no fan pressure like you have in IPL. Away from limelight. Look at the reception Klassen got in hyd. Nice time off with family.

Credibility of league goes down the drain of a tournament when a retired overweight overrated player(keiron Pollard)captains a team. In his own mind he is second coming of viv Richards

I think the ILT20 in Dubai has better representation than the MLC because the foreign player cap is more lax. That also makes it more diverse than the IPL & PSL too.

MLC: 6 Foreigners
ILT20: 9 Foreigners
Rest: 4 Foreigners

You just pick at one guy. Look at the other guys. Cummins, Head, Conway, Steve smith, Rachin, Klassen, QDK, David Miller, Jason Roy, Sunil Narine, Shakib, Dre Russ, Zampa, Tim David, Pooran, Rashid, Boult, Romario Shepard, Nortje, Rabada, Finn Allen, McGurk, Rutherford, Inglis, Harris Rauf, Matt Henry, Markram, Faf, Daryl Mitchell, Stoinis, Pathirana, Naveen, Maxwell.
How many leagues boast all these names. Credibility is just fine. If anything much better than most of the league.

Are all these super star players playing there? Seems like some elite players are taking part in MLC.

Washington Freedom has just thrashed MI New York by 94 runs. Scored 182 in 20 overs and got them all out for 88. Complete dominance.
